39 Bodies Found In Lorry

This story is heartbreaking, those poor people. Regarding the 30k cost as being reported, from what I've read this isn't paid upfront. Rather the families will pay a deposit or the smugglers will loan them the money, and the smuggled person then has to work off the loan once they arrive in the UK. Often they are forced to work in nail bars, restaurants, factories, brothels etc. Horrific and those who traffic people are the lowest of the low
I’ve heard this too. They never earn a penny from any job they may get and it’s all given to the smugglers. They also have their passports confiscated. Heartbreaking

So Mo still hasn’t been released. The longer it goes on the more he looks like he’s involved in moving them around and my feeling that he’s guilty increases. If so what are all the #freemo supporters going to do?

Hard to even imagine how desperate these people must be to come here. A Chinese lady on TV this morning, didn't catch who she was said that 30k could be 30years of savings 😲, some pay 50k to get here.

I don't understand if they have that sort of money then they must be pretty wealthy in their own country and so could live a good life with family.?

I wonder just what they are offered here, what do they think they are coming to, to make them pay so much, it's heartbreaking to think.
How evil some people are to make money from other humans in this way. I hope the police get all involved, put them in prison (which is far to good for them) and throw away the key.

I would love for who ever is involved to get the same treatment that was in store for these poor people a lifetime of suffering. 😔
In China and Vietnam, that isn't wealthy at all. People that are considered wealthy are millionaires, etc. It is very much a class based system there.

Mo Robinson has been charged with manslaughter and Radio 4 also mentioned money laundering charges.

Just come up on Sky that Robinson has been charged with 39 counts of Manslaughter.
I am on the fence with this, they either have enough evidence, or due to how long they can keep him for, have gone for holding charges whilst they continue the investigation

They can’t usually charge unless they have sufficient evidence can they? I thought it was up to the CPS to say yay or nay they can charge or release once the evidence has been presented

*edit* just asked a family member who is in the police. The CPS would have advised they have enough evidence to charge

They must have enough evidence in order to charge him, and subsequently go to trial depending on his plea.
I think he knew exactly what was in his lorry, why else would he pull in a mile down the road and break the seal on the trailer? Paperwork would either be on a tablet or in the cab. He pulled in to let them out, found them all dead and had no choice but to phone the emergency services.

I agree. He knew which is why he fainted at the sight that greeted him

They go for a Threshold test.

For example, the guy who killed the Police officer a few months ago in Berkshire. They charged him, they had to act in the time they had him in Custody, they investigation continued, he has since been released.

Also, yes, there could be plenty evidence that he knew what he was doing.

Nah, he’s definitely involved. He’s just a small link in a big chain
Yes it’s the people further up the chain who they need to get. Those who mastermind these awful ways to exploit human suffering.

Yes but they have to meet strict criteria for a threshold test. I think it’s odd he was charged and released. I think the driver was involved but much further down the chain

Yeah they do, but it is hard to explain. I think until they release more.
I work in the legal system, so maybe do read more in to it.

Oh god, now he’s a scapegoat and he’s clearly innocent and our Police are corrupt 🙄 Not only has he been charged with Manslaughter but they’ve also got him for Money Laundering. Working in Financial Services they will have some pretty strong evidence for this to be done.

I don't think anyone has said the Police are corrupt.
We the general public know very little of what is going on there just now, apart from the limited press releases.
I said I am still 50/50 on the charges, because i know in some cases they can go for what's called a holding charge when they are running out of time to keep someone in custody without a charge, whilst they still continue with the investigation, they will not want to release anyone until they gather as much evidence as they can, with the fear of losing evidence if someone is released. The amount of people arrested appears to be growing by the day.
Or yes, they have lots of evidence to show his involvement.

You need to read the comments on local press articles on FB 🤣 Plenty believe this to be the case 🙄
