39 Bodies Found In Lorry

I’m sitting on the fence for now. No one can say for definite that he did know or didn’t. Not looking in the trailer or it being sealed doesn’t mean he didn’t know what or who was inside it. He could be part of a wider ring or not. He could have called the Police to cover his own a or he was completely unaware. The story is changing all the time so until we know what actually happened and who was involved I’m not going to protest his innocence or guilty and I’d say there’s a lot more to come of this sad situation too.

Lots of armchair Lawyers, Police Officers and Judges on the latest Essex Police Post 🙄
They’ve just announced they’ve been granted extra time to question him and of course everyone knows he’s innocent (as I said earlier, I’m on the fence)

Am I being a bit of a snowflake or is it unnecessary for the person in charge of Essex police's social media to make a graphic complete with an image of police tape and a forensic kited up on all fours for this? Makes it look like a trashy tabloid.

Anything to grab attention these days. To me just feels like a "dumbing down " of everything.

Absolute bleeping disgrace that his personal information was posted by the media prior to any charges being made! Also disgusting how ALL media outlets have failed to mention that it was himself who rang the emergency services.
I hope he takes them all to the cleaners.
I saw it on Sky News breaking news and they did mention that they believed he alerted the ambulance/police service himself.
I think it’s wrong that the person has been named and it is encouraging people to find details about them and family members etc.

Seems a bit tacky.

I saw that China is censoring this news. Not surprising as they censor anything negative about them so the public don't get wind of it. They don't even have access to Google, etc, unless they use a VPN.

They’ve used that image for as long as I can remember for announcements.

It is so sad. I don't know if they driver would have had anything to do with it. I wonder if they were already dead when put in the lorry?

Now reporting that the driver passed out when he went into the back of lorry and discovered them.

I'm thinking the driver had nothing to do with it, he was just the one paid to drive.
A human trafficking gang I'm thinking, and this poor lad was the innocent victim.

It is absolutely horrific for everyone in this situation. I cannot even being to imagine how this young driver will cope after this.
For the media to name him and show pictures of him while he’s being question and most likely didn’t have clue is so wrong.

I’m from Northern Ireland it’s such a small place.

Buck lies with the government here and their border control and checks. There is also not enough support for people who seek asylum. Government turns a blind eye then horrific things like this happen.

I just hope the government and media propaganda aren’t using this poor guy as a scapegoat to avoid answering questions themselves. The government are fully aware of people trafficking and the routes they use.

Just hope this driver gets all the mental health support possible after this. Apparently his girlfriend is pregnant too.

The driver only had the container for about an hour or so they prob wouldn't have died while he had the container.

But very likley he knew it was something dodgy but could have thought it was dodgy imports NOT humans.

The issue is Zeebrugge and how lapse they are now calais is strict.

Might not have known they were dead - again, just looking at the other side of the potential story.

Why did he open it if it was sealed at the side of the road? He was (allegedly) checking his paperwork but if it were sealed you can’t open it before it’s reached it’s end destination. (OH used to unload lorries of this nature in a previous job)

Ive just read that the trailer was registered locally to him, he has the cab in his name. Just too much coincidence. Again, could be innocent but maybe he knew and had parked up to let them out, saw they were deceased and panicked 🤷🏼‍♀️ Why was the paperwork in the trailer as alleged? That should be with the driver.

Interesting piece about why people flee China.

39 found dead in lorry were Chinese nationals
"Analysis
By Celia Hatton, BBC Asia Pacific Regional Editor

When China makes the news headlines, it's often painted as wealthy global power.

However, its boom has also fostered extreme inequality, with the top one percent of Chinese citizens holding one-third of the country's riches. That gap is widening: a continuing trade war with the United States has forced many factories to close, disproportionately punishing some of China's poorest workers.

Surveys have repeatedly found that China's upper and middle class citizens are eager to leave the mainland, citing worries about the lack of high-quality schooling and health care, and lingering pollution and food safety problems.

Poor people in China have the same concerns but they have less opportunity to emigrate overseas. The Chinese government controls who can get a passport and who qualifies for an exit permit. Ever-tightening controls allow people smugglers and human traffickers to prey on those who are desperate to find work.

We don't yet know the story behind why the people found on the Essex lorry had taken that journey. A UK government report on modern slavery published one year ago found that China was the third most common foreign country of origin for victims of human trafficking."

Yes my brother was saying if it was sealed he wasnt able to open. If it wasnt sealed and he was in fact checking paperwork why did he st

I read online tonight that a zebrugge official said it would have reached them sealed and all they do is scan the seal. So therefore if it reached Essex sealed the only reason the driver would have broke that seal was if he knew it contained people and was opening it to release them.
I see they are saying he collapsed at the scene and it was shock as he didnt know they were in there, but surely even if he knew there were people in there opening it to find them all dead would have caused that reaction too, and realising the impact of a lorry load of deceased people in a lorry in his possession? Just a theory

Lots of reports of dodgy behaviour in that area with migrants. I don't think he's someone innocent caught up in it. I'm sure he didn't mean to kill them, but quite likely to be involved with smuggling. Still shouldn't have been named until charges are brought tho

I got a bit suspicious when it was reported that he was a truck driver and his gf was a hairdresser, both in their 20s with a £300,000 house.
I'm gonna get flamed haha.
I know it can be done, inheritance etc but it is an expensive home to be had on their wages (going on standard lorry driver and hairdressers wage).
