I may be being really naive here, but is £30,000 not a huge sum of money to people in such countries. If they are able to find the funds why is their drive to come to come to another country in such awful conditions and risking their life so strong. I understand that China restrict who leaves, but does Vietnam do the same?

Some don't have to pay anything but will be sold as sex slaves upon arrival.
Some do have the cash to pay but will receive free education, housing and healthcare for their families. £30,000 is very cheap to get all that for your family in most countries.

Yoghurt pots has said what I was about to say. The most disturbing film I've ever watched was Lilya 4 ever, although a different form of trafficking it's the horrific reality of forced labour. I don't think I could ever watch it again.

Interesting to see the Warrington couple have a hairdressers/nail bar. I know of them through friends of friends, loaded with no class. If you look at her videos of her son on YouTube rapping to Stormzy is 72 years old and the language she lets him use.

Very interesting. Guess they needed new staff for their nail bar.

This whole thing makes me sick to my stomach

I think people that use nail bars and car washes where the staff obviously shady have blood on their hands. This is all making me sick.

I wasn't surprised they were Chinese and Vietnamese, these are the most common nationalities in forced labour.

Seems the Chinese government is shifting all the blame onto the European actors, rather than addressing their own legal failures and huge inequality that drives people to take such risks to get to the UK. When you hear about the social credit system, people "disappearing", people being "re-educated" then shown on tv reading a script about how thankful they are, along with all the discrimination and wealth inequality... yeah, easier to just place the onus on the UK and the indentured slavers and make out these people are the extreme exception for wanting a better life at any cost.

What a horrific waste of life

They all live in huge houses 👀 I don’t know I’m just speculating but something is clearly off.

I also noticed on the daily mail article the truck drivers name is down to be in court on Monday? Although it’s the Daily Mail so could be speculation
I work in a solicitors office and I think it would go to magistrates court first to decide if he should be granted bail depending on what they have against him. If theres evidence to suggest hes guilty it will prob be referred to the crown court. So it could be a bail hearing possibly but hard to know when so little known

Oh god there are some idiots in Essex 🙄 The amount of comments from people on the local news page who clearly know he’s innocent, no wonder the Police are so short staffed, people are too busy conducting trial via Facebook than putting their detective skills to good use.

Lots of reports of dodgy behaviour in that area with migrants. I don't think he's someone innocent caught up in it. I'm sure he didn't mean to kill them, but quite likely to be involved with smuggling. Still shouldn't have been named until charges are brought tho
theres been a few incidents at the dartford bridge crossing going into essex (which is near to where these poor people were found) where lorries stopped in traffic sides open suddenly and people are literally pouring from the trailer. they found a few of them earlier in the year in some country lanes near me.
theres also been reports in local papers about Albanian Gangs trafficking people in the area.
i agree pictures until hes been charged properly..even if he is innocent then there's always going to be speculation about him

This is sad. While I do not agree with illegal immigration, these people must be very desperate. She apparently paid 30,000 to get smuggled.
Its awfully sad. So many people risk everything to come here hoping for a better life only (in a lot of cases) to be treated like dirt and suffer racism.

or end up as modern day slaves like im sure those poor people were destined for..working for a pitance which then has to be paid to gang masters to cover their debt of getting them here .
its so sad ..i work and id struggle to get £1000 saved up let alone £30k ..they must have some drive to be able to save that thinking you'll be getting a better life ..what a tragic waste of a young life (and all the others) x

i was walking through Liverpool st station this morning and overheard some bloke talking on his phone to someone about this incident. i actually heard him.say what kind of stupid person gets into refrigerated trailer to try and sneak into the country ...err desperate people i would imagine ! i doubt that they knew the refrigeration would actually be on probably just thought they would be hiding in it until they got here.
i dont know how i didnt him ...whatever your views on immigration/refugees etc how can you not be moved or affected by these tragic deaths

Hard to even imagine how desperate these people must be to come here. A Chinese lady on TV this morning, didn't catch who she was said that 30k could be 30years of savings 😲, some pay 50k to get here.

I don't understand if they have that sort of money then they must be pretty wealthy in their own country and so could live a good life with family.?

I wonder just what they are offered here, what do they think they are coming to, to make them pay so much, it's heartbreaking to think.
How evil some people are to make money from other humans in this way. I hope the police get all involved, put them in prison (which is far to good for them) and throw away the key.

I would love for who ever is involved to get the same treatment that was in store for these poor people a lifetime of suffering. 😔

This story is heartbreaking, those poor people. Regarding the 30k cost as being reported, from what I've read this isn't paid upfront. Rather the families will pay a deposit or the smugglers will loan them the money, and the smuggled person then has to work off the loan once they arrive in the UK. Often they are forced to work in nail bars, restaurants, factories, brothels etc. Horrific and those who traffic people are the lowest of the low
