So they brought his parents in to see him. Interesting move. Do they only have a few hours left to question him? Perhaps they think he will buckle under the pressure of seeing his parents. I also read his partner is pregnant with twins...I feel for her. Perhaps, if guilty, he will say he was just trying to help the people get a better life and he didn't know they'd be dead? Apparently, they'd been dead up to 12 hrs, so long before he saw them.

My brother drove lorries for supermarkets and his gf has a very well paid job and they couldnt afford a home like that.

I agree with some of the theories here. He definitely didn’t intentionaly cause these people harm. And, it would have been a terrible shock for him opening up the container and seeing that... no wonder he fainted. I also believe he shouldn’t have been named and photographed in the media so soon.
However something that’s crossed my mind. He may have been wanting to earn some extra cash, especially with the arrival of twins and may have been lured by the temptation of some “easy money” to transfer these people here. This probably goes on a lot more than we realise and probably has quite a high success rate. We only hear about the bad stuff or the people that get caught. Something is amiss to me with this whole thing. Why would he go and open the container half an hour after collecting it. These things aren’t to be tampered with. I hope he is innocent but this all seems like murky business. I read that gangs traffic poor Chinese citizens and bring them here to work in nail bars, massage parlours and as prostitutes or slaves. Not suggesting the lorry driver is involved with this directly. Just that he was maybe aware or them and was transporting them under the orders of someone for a hefty sum of cash.
Just a theory. I hope justice is served for these poor souls, may they rest in peace.

He dubbed his truck "the polar express" so knew how cold it was. If he did know people was in the back then he also knew that they would be freezing cold and would likely die unless dressed appropriately.

Read in the paper this morning that it’s rumoured each of the people could have paid up to £30,000 each to be smuggled in.

My thoughts on it now are that the driver knew they were in the container but didn't know it was a cold store? Hence why he opened it thinking he was letting them out, otherwise it makes no sense for him to have opened it?

I dont have much knowledge of trucks but would it not be obvious if its a refrigerated unit, from either noise or any vents ?
Yes I guess so, but depending on where they got in, it was - 26 so would of died very quickly,and stayed cold for along time.
So maybe the truck he was driving wasn't refrigerated, he just thought it was a container carrying them rather than a refrigeratored one??

The driver should not have been named and exposed whilst still being questioned that’s not right at all. I’ve noticed the other two arrested haven’t been named so why has he been named and branded the name death truck driver. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

Apparently someone that died was sending texts to her mum saying she couldn't breathe and was dying. If she has a smartphone and was dying wouldn't she find the location and report to someone? England is so popular because of the language so lots possibly spoke english. and it would be better to be turned back than killed
BBC Radio Four (3 o clock news) has said that 3 Vietnamese people have contacted the BBC believing they have relatives who died in the incident.
