That made me spit out my tea laughing.

Her social media has always been a bit like she went on a course on how to do social media and has just followed the guidelines on how to raise interactions rigidly.
“It’s almost #griftmas time again. My father Saint Captain Sir Tom Moore loved this most special season. It was his dying wish I continued to rake lots of money in, in his holy name. What’s your favourite way to steal cash off innocent people on social media? Let me know in the comments. My husband Colin and I are raising a glass of King Saint Captain Sir Tom Moore gin to you all. Merry Griftmas! Love, Hannah xx”

It's all so grubby. It's also so British.

A collective madness seemed to take hold with this disreputable bunch being given carte blanche to lie. embroider the truth and "pull rank" via our wildly outmoded class system. I'm surprised the Governmewnt didn't retroactively promote him to field marshall and make his daughter a General.

I never bought it for a minute. The social climber captain (who'd been on Blankety Blank) and his vulgar family were a total joke to everyone I knew at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 vision but it wasn't needed in this case was it?

Petitioning for a state funeral when many grieving relatives have been denied the right to even attend the funerals of their loved ones is insensitive at best. Every life is precious, every loss is equal, regardless of what opportunities come your way.

They are coming across as so spoilt. What luxury they had. A partially funded trip to Barbados (the dad just about remembered not to say free). But, more upsetting my, they were there when he died. Do they not get how many people would have loved to have that chance and were denied that?

I spat my tea out when I read an email at work about a charity event in the hospital back in mid 2020. The idea was that everyone (this was NHS staff) would donate £20 and receive a Rubik's cube, which they would then solve on the day and hand to someone who would arrange them all on the floor to create a giant portrait of Captain Tom. I think there were supposed to be 900 cubes, and the idea was that you'd keep one afterwards and the NHS charity would keep the change. It was cancelled literally hours after the email went out, presumably someone with sense pointed out that most people don't know how to solve the cubes and so trying to get 900 people to do it would be insane.

I was nearly not going to click on this thread thinking it would be full of everyone saying how much in mourning they were but thankfully not. I agree with everything that has been said on here, yes, he was a lovely man who had really good intentions at heart when he did the walk but no-one lives forever, unfortunately, at 100 years of age, its unlikely you would have much time left on this earth.
I have refused to look on social media and the news, its like every person who has lost someone very close to them, whether it be from COVID or any other terrible disease are overlooked, their mourning doesn't count.
Plus I'm so glad this is a safe place to voice my opinion without being classed as insensitive or callous which I am far from. i would prefer to think I am a realist who doesn't need to join in the social media/news circus. Everyone has their own shit going on, life is hard for the majority of people but unfortunately that is life.

I hate the fact that the news sites are now proclaiming "200,000 sign petition to give Captain Tom Moore a state funeral".

Yeah, and 69,800,000 people didn't. 🙄

That woman on Talk TV saying "Everyone needed a hero during covid", nope .... The whole thing was mass brain washing as was virtually anything media led at that time. Oh whoopy doo here's another theatrical singing family. 🤬

I think it’s going to be so interesting to see what happens to the family now. In the PM interview, Hannah said she had to work (and that was said to justify getting the appearance fee and keeping the vast proportion of it for herself even though she was still the Chief Executive of the charity at that point).

Now they have school fees, a huge house to maintain and they have to pay to demolish the spa building. I don’t know if any other costs will arise from the charity commission enquiry?

How are they going to maintain their lifestyle? I can’t see anyone being that keen to associate with them or be seen to be paying for their lifestyle coaching etc.

It fascinates me that this story really unites people across all the various economic/social divisions. They don’t really seem to have anyone on side, not even the Daily Mail or Piers Morgan.

Not to sound like I have a photo of the poor fella on a dartboard regarding Tom but people have gone far too overboard.
I personally felt that the little boy Tony deserved a lot more than what he got, he overcame being abused by his parents and having his legs amputated to raise money for the hospital that looked after him if I personally find his story more inspiring and heroic than walking up and down your garden.

Gross to have the kids sitting in on that interview. The girl’s only 14. Always looking for someone to hide behind, isn’t she?
