I read / watch different media outlets to catch a perspective from different points of view about the same topic. That ranges from BBC to ... yep, Russel Brand.
I landed on RB content in 2020 and since then, been watching some of his videos once in a while. I didn't know the folk was a somehow media-journalist now after his MTV days but fair enough, he displayed some
absolutely basic opinions about current news but from an
"outsider's" perspective. I do not find him smart neither revolutionary, but it's still a different point of view of whatever mainstream media says. I think it's important to understand this to not judge his followers and to attempt to display a more advanced position on what is going on here.
Looking back, Russel Brand made a deliberate re-branding attempt to distance himself from the mainstream media days. For me it was not 100% clear why he stopped working with big media outlets & I am not naive enough to think that someone just walks away from that world, the economical repercussions of going from MTV / Channel 4 to a niche Youtube channel are huge.
It's quite clear now that A LOT of people were not keen on wanting him on any floor and around 2010s the #MeToo vibes were (thankfully) too popular to ignore, I wonder how the conversations went by but it was just a matter of time till the shit hits the fan type of thing & he may have noticed the narrative of
"I am sober now and following the steps" was good marketing.
Fast forward to 2020, RB positioned himself as a mixture of a gurú AND a professional journalist / commentator and his accounts exploded in popularity,
mostly because there is no mainstream media alternative for those type of opinions.
You are not going to find episodes or news against Bill Gates on the BBC / CNN, a fairly obvious thing but actually, is the whole point.
RB understood his place and time to make his channel work. As he used to be a famous presenter in the past and his content tries to portray a bit of a "smart gurú" image, his following has increased exponentially in comparison with other similar channels.
For instance, if you said you followed David Icke, you were likely going to get a look of

really? - But mentioning Russel Brand? It seemed harmless. He was making content purely about being a contra-information point of view against the (alleged) dangers of the mainstream media and so forth.
Now, I do think both statements can be true here:
- Big media conglomerates are attempting to shut down some alternative media outlets as this is impacting their businesses quite harshly AND
- Russel Brand is a rapist & all testimonies are true.
I am sorry your information gurú is a rapist, it kind of says something about the right-wing conspirancy online territories that seem to be really prone to fall for all types of grifters and abusers. My take here is that it could be that 100% of RB videos are true and he is a smart individual fighting against the big media / pharma or whatever, but that does not make him less of a rapist I am afraid.
