Gosh those are scary numbers. I’m in the boat of not really being bothered about a hen do as I’m getting married I. Sept and getting overwhelmed with everything I need to sort out never mind booking a hen! Some friends have mentioned it but I would honestly prefer a nice meal out and low key drinks. We live in a city so can find nice places to go. I would feel awful asking people to spend more money tbh.

My thing about abroad hen dos, and no offence to anyone that is doing this
I'd rather be able to say to my friends "right girls I've booked this hen do in the UK its going to cost £200 and these are the activities and we have this accommodation" so they're getting something for their money, instead of going "right girls I want to go to ibiza, and the flights alone are £200, the hotel is £80 per night each and then whilst we're there you need enough money for food, nightclub entry and booze"
It just doesn't seem realistic to me, its so much money 😳
My friend suggested to me we all go to disneyland paris for mine and as sweet as a suggestion that is since I love disney, I could never ask them to spend that much, it would end up costing them about £300 each before we even had any food

How did you all go about choosing your bridesmaids?

I have two sisters so I was always going to choose them. My partner also has two sisters, one older and one younger than me. I get on well with them so was thinking about maybe asking them too, although he (helpfully) doesn’t know either way whether they’d want to do it or not.

I have four close mates but one has been my best friend since we were younger. I think she’s expecting me to ask her but - and I know this might sound mean - she has a habit of taking over everything and doing things because she wants to do them. Eg if I suggest a brunch for my hen do and she wants a big weekend abroad, she’ll end up organising a big weekend abroad if no one stops her.

Part of me is considering just having my sisters because it’s a small wedding anyway and with them I can be completely honest about what I do and don’t want without feeling like I have to please them. But I also don’t want the others to feel left out!

If you're worried about your friend feeling left out, you can suggest that she does a reading or is a witness for the marriage so that she's still involved but in a selective way.

Doing a reading is a really good idea if you have a church wedding. You can just have a sister as a bridesmaid though - even though it feels like you have to have 10 bridesmaids now, you can just get away with one!

my best friend is getting married this year - as brides, what would you guys recommend me to get her as a wedding gift?

for context, i am not her maid of honour, her sister is, but i'm heavily involved in the planning, will be organizing the hen do with her sister, will be getting ready with them and their mum on the day, have known her for 20+ years, etc. so it's a really important one 😊

If it helps
For my brothers wedding present I got them.a star map print
It had 3 different stat maps
One for their first date, one the night they got engaged and one the night they got married
Most meaningful present I've ever bought anyone was for my brother on his wedding day. I got him a leather bracelet with a metal plate on it and found a company that copied handwriting, they engraved the handwriting of our deceased auntie into the metal plate of the bracelet. He cried when I gave him it.

Other ideas:
A box of date night ideas
A voucher for their favourite restaurant for a meal
A personalised frame to frame a wedding picture
If she has a Pandora bracelet a little wedding related pandora charm just for her
A sketch of their venue personalised to them (you can get them on not on the high street)

oh my god i love these thank you soooo much! 💙 what beautiful and meaningful presents you have given.

i might combine a few of these - they have a beautiful venue so a personalized sketch of it sounds great - plus i love the box of date night ideas and she does have a pandora bracelet!

again thank you so much 😊

I think it depends on your group of friends. I wouldn’t mind a weekend in Barcelona or a big week in Vegas but my friends are all people who like a good holiday so we’d make the most of it and make it our big one of the year (we’ve done this for a couple of friends, and a destination wedding).
It does help that not too many of the group have families though so it’s easy to commit that sort of money/annual leave

I've found that people who either haven't had their own hen do or haven't attended hen dos become very funny about spending the money on one.
I've never been to a hen do that hasn't cost me at least £100, and the only reason it didn't cost more was because is was my sister in law and my brother decided to just pay for our accommodation.
I mean a night out these days sometimes costs £50 after all so a hen do with activities will always cost a bit extra.

I think no matter what you're doing as long as you give people enough notice that no one can really complain
I.e. don't turn around and say to people I want to do my hen do next month and its going to cost £300 each 😂

There was no way my twin sister wasn't going to be one of my bridesmaids. My fiance wanted his younger sister (photogenic but scary) to be a bridesmaid and I went for one of my best friends as well

I agree that asking your friend to do a reading etc would be a good way of keeping her involved so that she doesn't feel left out

Yeah I’ve decided to ask my best friend as well as my sisters. She can be a bit overbearing at times but she means well and I’m counting on my sisters to keep her in line!

I’m curious, why is your fiancés sister scary haha?

She's a morbid, creepy kid - like Wednesday Addams or something. I know it sounds mean but everyone thinks so lol (except him, he says I'm a wimp that's scared of a child for no reason LOL)

Haha I’m totally picturing a little Wednesday Addams but in a pretty dress scowling her way down the aisle now 😂
