Looks to me he had it bloody made with a wife willing to stay home to raise 4 children on her own. My bet is he'd have stayed if she was willing to to forgive him but of course she was right not to. Hope the new one doesn't want children or she'll find her herself in the same situation some day.

I suspect she'd have split with him eventually. Probably have done the initial try to give a go, denial phase, carry on as normal, patch it up, if he'd have wanted to stay. Then once she'd started to heal a bit and the trauma bonding, 'pick me' dance phase had passed and he'd continued to work long hours away from home, her trust would be shattered and she'd realise it wasn't tenable in the long term.
