In the most respectful way what are 60 year old men going to do to stop this? I don't think anyone should be forced to stay but practically pensioners 🤦🏻‍♀️

The French foreign minister has said Putin must remember NATO also have nuclear weapons ...is goading a madman with nothing to lose a wise thing 👀
I think there's something wrong with him like brain tumour or early dementia. He always did act the strong man but not this bad he's acting worse than Kim Jong Un.

There's a lot of sad on the ground footage on tik tok but what sickened me was the scammers were out. A few live streams looking out of window with air raid shelter music played on a loop and people were sending tons of gifts because they hadn't watched long enough to realise the man repeats the same words after a few minutes 😤

He’s got nothing to lose he’ll never claw it back so why would he want to retreat 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was back in 2020 !! I really think he is terminally ill and it's his last chance to leave his mark.

I agree - to him Western countries look weak (especially after the disastrous way the USA and other countries left Afghanistan) - and tbh I can't think of a single leader who is stoic enough to face him down

With China on his side I don’t think the US etc can do much . Sad

If he's actually terminally ill there's a chance he won't give a duck about anything ,a frightening thought. Best we can do is send money weapons aid and accept refugees , fortify the borders.

East Asia needs to start spending more money on defense . Japan and South Korea won't like China flexing , Taiwan also better start preparing.

You're absolutely right - and if China were to invade Taiwan who would stop them? I really hope that this isn't the prelude for something more sinister. I don't recognise the world we live in anymore (I haven't for a while tbh and it started to hit me back in August when the Taliban came back, but now I think it's properly just slapped me in the face) and @veevee04 that's all we can do and I hope the aid reaches them quickly

RE Nuclear reactor waste

Russia wouldn't want to do anything purposefully (unless the circumstances demanded for it I suppose) because the winds tend to blow towards Moscow (or so I've read), so it would be a fairly big threat to them also

Apparently it's been confirmed that it's the increased presence of tanks/cars/whatever that's causing the spike because there's dust and exhaust

Does any one know why they are claiming they are Neo Nazis? Sorry if that is an ignorant question but it keeps being mentioned and I'm not 100% sure why,
The issue of Nazism in Ukraine goes back to the experience of the Holodomor under the Soviet control of the Ukraine in the early 30s. As a result, a section of Ukrainian society perceived Nazi Germany and Nazism to be a way to fight back against Soviet Russia and the forces that had created a genocide perpetrated against the Ukrainian people.

It was somewhat a notion of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Of course, it didn't exactly work out to the benefit of Ukrainians, but they were kinda caught in between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I think what is important to realise is that understandings of events are very different in other countries, and the different geographical and historical contexts in which they occurred cannot be divorced from the circumstances in which they took place.

Neo-Nazism in former Soviet countries is very much fuelled by a hatred of Russia, Sovietism, Communism and Soviet-style Socialism (which is what the USSR called communism in Soviet Satellite States so as not to frighten the horses).

It's not quite the same as what we, in Britain, perceive as Neo-Nazism, which tends to be a very bizarre adoration of Hitler and the Third Reich with a heavy dose of murderous race-hate.

It will be a major provocation to Japan and South Korea if they do that as there's disputed territories in that area. Looks like they are already preparing .

Can’t sleep just reading and absorbing everything. I’m exhausted after these 2 years. I can’t imagine how the people of Ukraine/Russia feel right now.

Hugs no no you aren't either of those things. It's a completely natural response and you must do whatever is needed to feel more balanced and be gentle to yourself emotionally. The last few years have been hellish and I honestly don't know how Putin has the stamina to do this after everything (maybe it's a thing they teach in the KGB). I wish your son a very happy birthday and hope that the coming year is full of good health, joy and purpose for him. Maybe there are some charities who are directly helping Ukrainians that you could make a small donation to on his behalf - almost like a gift? All my love to you x
