I would be in the same predicument as Julie re the surnames, but my solicitor said once I have their fathers approval Id be able to go ahead and add my surname as a double barrel..... Id like to think my solicitor is right? Hopefully anyway. Shes confused the life oit of me

You cant change a birth certificate to change a name unless its done through adoption.
You can add a fathers name or if the parents marry , you can change it to add the fathers name.
You can't swap and change . Its a legal document. Can you imagine the state of some birth certs if you could just swan in and change on a whim.
When I was having my 3rd child 20 years ago it was made very clear that the surname put on the cert could not be changed.
