I wasn't sure whether to post about this, as I'm unsure if acknowledging it again, outside of my own thoughts is a good idea, but it's been on my mind since Halloween evening, so here goes...
I'm not sure if I've added into any comments I've made previously on here that I think there's something in my kitchen. I wasn't sure what but on Halloween, in between the 100 odd kids that came to my door, we tried out a pendulum and yes/no/ maybe board I gave my daughter (I gave her friend one too in a wee bag with tarot cards and a cloth, stones, sweets, a wee broomstick and other similar bits and bobs as a thank you for them helping make, and set up, the decorations outside and answering the door to the trick or treaters).
We were looking at the spells I have, and just chatting about ghosts, ouija ect and my daughter decided to ask her pendulum some questions, initially it was silly stuff like "will I win a million quid", but as we chatted I told my daughter's friend that when we moved here five years ago immediately my daughter starting going on about "the man in the attic", and I very carefully (I didn't want to scare my daughter, they're both 17 and neurodiverse) I mentioned that I get a funny feeling in the kitchen sometimes, so my daughter says yes, me too, just at the side of the fridge. I was shocked, as that's exactly where I feel like someone stands and watches me, in both daytime but mainly at night. I asked her about the man in the attic and she said she just "knew" a man was up there. When we moved in it was a good couple of months before we got into the loft as the door was jammed, but when I did I found that the loft was floored and beams had been cut and moved higher up to allow someone to move about up there. There was empty beer cans, bottles, cigarette ends along with just random stuff that had been put up and forgotten about, the cans were from the 80s, but the thing that got me the most was the smell. Since we moved here there's been a smell in the hall and we've tried everything to get rid of it, it's at the bottom of the stairs and comes and goes. We've had plumbers, drain people, builders, you name it we've tried and we can't locate it, it's not dead mice. It can be there one day, gone the next, and back the following. It's only in the one area and nowhere near the loft access hatch, the loft smell is identical, and it's not a general smell you'd associate with a loft, musty old, it's pungent. We had the roof redone, thinking it would help. It didn't, there's no dampness ect.
So a couple of years ago I began noticing it in the kitchen, but again only at certain times. Cleared the drains, made no difference. It can go for months and then reappear as bad as ever. We decided to ask the pendulum if there was a spirit in the house, and it said yes, then we asked was it a man, again, yes. I told the girls I had a sense it was a man in his late 50's and that he looked like he was from the 1980s and he smoked. I can picture in my minds eye what he looked like, it's probably just my imagination though. My daughter's friend said "I think his name was Charlie" so we asked the pendulum and it said no, but she asked did his name begin with C and it said yes, I then asked if he passed in this house in the 80's and it said yes. Kids came to the door so we stopped, and my friends mum arrived to pick her up so we couldn't continue, and to be honest I'm not sure I wanted to.
Since Halloween on Tuesday something very odd has happened, instead of the usual smell in the hall there's now a very strong perfumey scent. It doesn't smell like any of my daughters or my perfume, it's really, really weird. I also haven't sensed the man in the kitchen, it's very different going in there now. I wonder if it's because we somehow acknowledged him? And I told him that we were going to look after the house, and that he could stay if he continued to just exist in the background. My daughter agreed with me that he's not a threatening presence, it's almost as if he is wondering why we are in his house. Where my fridge is is where, in the past in these kitchens, a dining table and chairs would have sat (it's a 1960's house). Maybe that was where he liked to sit, smoking his cigarettes, and would pop up into the loft to sit to have his own space? Ive listened to and watched all the Uncanny episodes, and read the book, and fully understand my brain is looking to make sense of something that's probably my imagination, but the whole thing is very odd.
