Not yet but I want it! 😍 How you feel about the deck itself is very important IMO and it’s a very personal thing, so everyone will have different ideas, feelings, etc., about different decks. The Rider-Waite deck is a great one to begin with though and there’s a great history connected to it.
Totally agree. I know it sounds naff to say it, but I genuinely think the deck chooses you. One of my favourites I own is the tarot illuminati. I saw a picture of the high priestess card & was obsessed with it to the point I had it as a screen saver on my PC at work. 😂 By that point, I was like, yeah, that deck is calling to me......You're right though, the Rider-Waite one is great to begin with. Most of the courses & books that actually make sense tend to use this one so it's easier to follow along.

I've just had a look at the everyday witch ones, they look nice! Might have to *cough cough* treat myself.

Sorry to keep editing, but if anyone is interested in buying these, you can find them for under 8 quid on ali express before you spend a small fortune for them on Amazon!!

Yep, agree. That’s why I only use my 30 odd year old ones. They’ve only ever been used by me and are wrapped in a black cloth when not in use.

You can get some lovely sets on Temu for under a fiver
I've bought a couple for my daughter and her friend for their "Halloween bags" (they're 17 and not interested in sweets so I bought a bunch of witchy stuff, pendulums, mini witch brooms ect) as a wee gift as they'll be dishing out the Halloween bags to the 150 (yes, 150 kids I get at my door, it's ridiculous, I only toys, tattoos, creepy crawlies, pencils, rubbers ect in the first 50 bags, I buy stuff throughout the year to make them). I also got a Seasons of the Witch Samhain set for myself, they're smaller that normal cards by t really good quality.

My house is a magnet as I decorate like crazy 😂 I started putting up my inside decorations on October 1st, my other halfs ready for killing me as there's life sized skeletons on the couch 😂. Tomorrow is when I go really nuts outside, canny wait, I love it more than Christmas!

I agree, all my decks I've been drawn to, my first set were my sister's from she was a teenager, I ended up giving them away about ten years ago as I didn't want to do it any more and I majorly regret it

I’ve never looked at tarot, I’m not sure I completely understand it.
is it as straightforward as learning it from, say, YouTube? Does it predict the future? Give advice? Would it tell me things that could frighten me? I’m not sure if it’s something I want to know about or not.

You absolutely could learn the basics from YouTube, but a lot of decks come with a book explaining what each card represents, however if you think tarot might be something youre unsure if you could look into oracle cards? There's all different types, angel cards are one and they don't really have any negative connotations whereas some tarot cards can be taken to mean things which could worry some people such as the death card (which doesn't mean the death of a person, but more the end of a situation, I'm probably not explaining this properly it's almost 12.30and I've hardly slept for days). Card which people might immediately think look frightening generally don't mean the first thing people would assume.

All of the above really! It’s a very intuitive practice so you’ll find that the cards speak to you on a spiritual level, whether you’re looking for advice or predicting what might happen if you make a certain decision. You can definitely learn from YouTube, websites or books - ‘Tarot for Dummies’ (excuse the name 😂) is really good and easy to follow for beginners if you’d prefer to learn from a book. I’ve never found it frightening personally but it does have the potential to warn you about certain things that might happen. Often times it might just confirm what you already know or suspect.

I’m absolutely loving this thread and reading all of your experiences, but my god, it’s not a good idea at this time of night when you’re alone in an old, creaky house! 👀 😂

Anyone ever seen the ‘hat man’?
I was 14 had never heard of him/it btw. I woke up freezing in the early hours and tried to pull my quilt up to my chin and I couldn’t because there was a weight at the end of my bed, so I look over and see the darkest, blackest silhouette of a man that I could only describe wearing a Stetson hat sitting on the end of my bed!

I shut my eyes until I heard my neighbour start his motorbike at 6am then ran out the room!
Never saw him again, thankfully.
My family encountered many strange things in this house but I was the only one that saw hat man. Then years later I read that other people have experienced/seen him. Sleep paralysis? I hope so. But I could move so I just don’t know.

sorry eta it was the tarot talk that prompted me to post. I used to sit on this same bed doing the cards…

Yes I have many times, it is part of sleep paralysis. You generally see him if you are having a hard time in life, they love the negative energy so if you do see him again, sage away

When I was younger that's the way we learned, my sister and I purchased them for each other, and the sets I have now I've got my other half to buy for me (apart from one set I recently bought from Temu and haven't used, but I think I'm going to gift them to someone). I googled it a while ago and a lot of experienced readers now say it's ok to buy them for yourself as someone might be in a position where they want them but have noone to gift them a set. I generally don't see a problem with it, maybe if it's possible to follow tradition and gave them gifted then fair enough, but if someone's not able to get them that way then I don't see harm in buying them. It would be interesting to hear others opinions on it 🙂

Are sleep paralysis apparitions “real” then? I’ve always read that they are just the result of whatever is happening to your brain in that state but tbh, I’ve always wondered if, in that half awake/half asleep state, you’re not just more susceptible to seeing the spirit world.

No I don’t think they are real. I just googled and there’s lots of people out there saying they’ve seen the hat man!

Isn’t it strange though that people see the same types of figures. I’ve always found that fascinating and eerie.

If you can be bothered and have the time, read back on the thread and the first thread. The hat man has come up several times and there's lots of examples of people's experiences.

I had sleep paralysis once and also saw hat man in the corner of the room. And what I can describe as some sort of evil old witch pushing down on my chest and her hand over my mouth when I tried to get up.
I was scared of sleeping for months.
