Thank you.

Non-essential shops are closed at the moment, but I will look into it at some point. You're right though. I was looking at various reviews and for the same shoes, some people said they are fantastic whereas others said they are terrible.

There is the wet foot test which should give you an idea. But I wouldn't buy shoes on what others say.

Just ran the furthest I've ever been today, 7mi! It didn't feel as hard as I thought it would be but now I'm sooo hungry haha

Had to go back a couple weeks due to a few personal problems, day 1 wasn’t good they say exercise is good for your mind but having a panic attack half way through wasn’t cool

Im now able to run a 5k in under 40 minutes! I know it’s not a lot, but when I first started it was taking me 45 minutes, sometimes even longer. My new goal is to try and get down to 35 mins. I’m also doing a much longer run once a month. Currently around 7-8k but hope to increase that to 10k eventually.

Anyone got advice for numb feet? I get it whenever I walk or run a long way, all across the bottom of my feet. My shoes fit fine (properly fitted Hoka running shoes) and I'm not massively overweight so I'm not sure what's causing it. I don't even have to sit down to make it go away, just stand still for under a minute. But if I keep going and going, the numbness ascends all the way up to my knees.

It might be how they're laced?

Does anybody have any advice / brand / store recommendations for buying new running shoes? My current shoes are really needing replaced

I’m in the UK and prefer to shop in person, but not against online shopping

I know it’s best to go to a specialist running store such as Run4It and speak to a staff member who knows their stuff, but at the moment they are appointment only and I don’t really have the confidence to do that, and would prefer to shop solo.

Love my Hoka One Ones. They do a 30 Day guarantee - you can run in their shoes and send them back (yes, even after using) if you don't like them. Other brands including Brooks do a similar guarantee if you buy direct from their website.

Stick with what you have if you're happy.

I’ve booked to go to a specialist store on Saturday to have gait analysis - I’ve been before and it was totally fine and they really are knowledgable and also not judgy (at least in mine) and let me be a weirdo when it came to colours of the shoe.

Just bit the bullet and booked in for Friday morning!
I’m looking to increase my running distances over the summer so I need specialist shoes which are properly fitted for my feet, and although I’m slightly dreading it I know the staff are professional and will be the best people to go to for advice etc!

You’ll be totally fine - they’re trained to do this and they see all sorts of runners and people. It’s definitely the best to have shoes which are suited for you especially increasing distances. Let us know what shoes you go for!

Can anyone recommend a backpack for running? I’ve joined a gym that is closer to walk/run to than to drive so planning to run there and back, however I need to carry my lifting shoes and a bottle of water. Nothing too big, just needs to be waterproof and comfortable.

I’m after a small rucksack that has a lot of adjustability because I hate things flapping around when I’m running!

Ooh so I used to run to work (back in the day when I had an office) and I had an Osprey tempest which I loved. It was much bigger than what you’d probably need though but it was fully adjustable and really comfortable even with loads of stuff in it! I’ve got friends who rate Decathlon running bags as they are great value - if it’s just shoes and water and other small items you’d def be able to get away with a trail running hydration pack type bag.

That’s really good to know thank you! I have a much larger osprey bag that I love, so osprey are definitely on my list of potentials.. I’ve got a hydration pack (all the gear no idea ) so it’s definitely a backpack I’m after, I will see if I can track any osprey running bags down locally to go and take a look at before spending the money though

I went and did the gait analysis on a treadmill in a proper running shop I was so embarrassed as I was only starting to run but they were great. I invested in some Hokkas but they aren't for everyone. I love mine. I've since joined our local athletic club and am loving it. I'm not as rubbish at running as I thought and I really love the motivation of running with a group. I was doing a 38 mi 5k ( so super slow!) But after a few weeks of training with the club I got it down to 31 mins and was so proud of myself! I've since been moved up to a higher group and am feeling such a sense of achievement. I would always have been far too nervous and embarrassed to join a running club and I've since realised that they are really for all levels and abilities. Lots of people just starting and others who have been running for years. I've also found everyone to be so lovely and meeting lots of new people.
