I'm like you, I wouldn't be interested, but looking at the jubilee and the queen's death has made me realise a lot more people fawn over this family than what is proportionate. I can't believe the amount of newspaper space that has been dedicated to this lot over the past few weeks considering the problems we in this country face, people need to get their head out of the sand and hold the media responsible for reporting on things that really don't matter

Didn't people look down on Daniel when he first got with her because of his job and background
Wasn't he her gym instructor or something?

Kate's spent her highest ever on clothes this year - over 176,000 GBP.

The actual cost of clothes worn is higher as the quoted figure is for never-before-seen clothes on official engagements only. It doesn't take into account bespoke clothes which the DM can only guess the value of and likely cost significantly more than the estimates quoted.

Are we still paying for the York girls’ clothes? I don’t want to! 😡

Seems they really did 'bend over backwards' to accommodate Meghan 😱

And she still looked a mess.
From what I read at the time, your first year as a royal is always spendy as you're buying things you'll need but will wear again (coats, hats, etc.)

She also did a lot of foreign engagements in her first year which would explain it toom

I'm sorry but there's no defending that kind of spend. They only got married in May of that year anyway!

While I’m obviously not exactly happy to see Meghan’s tally (or Kate’s for that matter), it’s seeing the York girls on there that pisses me off the most. Bloody hangers on. Cut them off Charles, that whole horrid branch. Complete irrelevences; the public have never been interested in those girls, however hard their father tried to push them upon us.

Gives an insight into why Harry’s forever on the phone to his father begging for cash though…

Same reason the Duke of Windsor kept calling his brother from Paris coincidentally. Nothing to do with so-called ‘SeCuRiDy’. Fashion. All fashion.

I wonder whether her wedding dress(es!) are included?

I wonder what happens to the ‘clothing allowance’ now? Charles paid for Catherine and Meghan out of the Duchy of Cornwall coffers… wonder if they have to pay themselves now William is Duke of Cornwall or if Charles still picks up the tab.

Nice to see Anne doesn’t even make the Top 14 though 😁

I suppose it’s difficult trying to find a style that‘s ‘you’ while also one that formal. The likes Diana tried out a few styles… most of them ropey … before settling on her signature look, Fergie never got the hang of it, Sophie and Catherine have had some doozies. Like most things Royal, the men have it so much easier.

Far more money was spent on her clothes that year though.
I think designers design for tall and thin with no breadts, as they always have done, so women who are shorter than 5'10 or have boobs and hips look terrible. God knows why dedigners are paid the big bucks for that though, when many of them clearly want to dress pre pubescent boys and can't cope with women!

This feels a bit like deflecting by bringing up numbers from 5 years ago, with an inflated figure based on a wedding dress that made up half that cost.

Kate's figures are far more salient as she is still a working royal. It would be nice to actually discuss one couple (H&M, W&K) without the whataboutism about the other couple.

I don’t think the figure does include Meghan’s wedding dress because she had two and one was worth at least £200k. I think I remember them doing an article of cost of first year wardrobes for royal women and it didn’t include any of their wedding dresses but her was still double everyone else’s. The Givenchy dress she wore for her first outing with the Queen cost at least £10,000 alone.

To be fair to the op they brought up the 2018 list to compare with Kate's figures for this year which they quoted in their post. It was the rest of us that started talking about how much Meghan spent. I'm surprised there's so many people defending it to be honest. It's astronomical. She often went for high end couture as a royal and she still does now for big events.

I never defended it. I am addressing the false equivalencies that occur in debtaing here. It is obvious why 2018 was brought up seeing that Meghan topped the list, my question is what does a non-Royal's spending 4 years ago have to do with a senior Royal's spending now? It's clear deflection.

For what it's worth, I find ALL these clothes budgets atrocious. I will NEVER understand anyone spending thousands on clothes...it feels wasteful and excessive.

wedding dresses not included in that list as they said they couldn't calculate the cost!

Her wedding dresses were not included in that cost. 2018 was the only year I could find that had lots of royals on, I thought it's interesting to compare!
