I have a slow cooker and love it but only use it for things like stews, casseroles, chilli/bolognese and for slow cooking fatty meats, like pork shoulder. I joined a slow cooker group on FB hoping to find interesting recipes, and oh. my. god.
It was full of lazy, hopeless cooks. I always brown onions and meat and bring everything up to the boil before putting in the SC. These guys would just chuck everything in cold and raw (because boiled raw onions taste so nice, don’t they?
). People would even chuck frozen meat and poultry in, despite it being a massive food poisoning risk. And then there were the people who chucked boxed cake mix (mixed with lemonade - yeah, I don’t get it either) and packet bread mixes in their SC. I got the impression these women had no idea how to cook, and that’s why they decided to cook everything in the slow cooker, badly. They weren’t the brightest tools in the shed...
