If money wasn't spent on the Royal Family and the Jubilee, then it's very unlikely that the same sum of money would be spent to make things better for the general public. Us little people would not see any benefit .

I’m looking forward to a 4 day weekend - cheers Lizzy. I’ll probably watch some of the concert, the line up looks quite good.

I like QE2, she's a formidable, intelligent lady, born into something she knew nothing of. We can't predict what we are destined for.
She's never let herself down, I respect her to be honest.
I was brought up to respect old age . I've nothing against her tbh.

I love the monarchy, generally speaking. I think the queen has performed her duties amazingly well over many years.

But I will be avoiding the blanket coverage of the Jubilee as I don’t want to listen the BBC and Sky droning on and on, filling space with utter drivel and fawning nonsense. I shall pay my respects quietly and in my own way.

I don't mind the Queen.
The rest of them can go piss on the electrics tbh.
I'd be not bothered of Queen was final royal.

This jubilee is going to be used by people as an excuse to get drunk, not that they need an excuse. More people are celebrating a 4 day weekend than the queen... Especially as it's supposedly going to be nice weather wise.

I went to a free local event this weekend and will be going to more. Its nice to celebrate and for it to be acceptable to take pride in being British. I'm not excited bc, well, I'm an adult 😄 but it's nice to be part of something that brings people together. I also went to another (different) event that brought people of all descriptions together and I do love that aspect about community events. I'm not particularly a massive royalist but I do support and appreciate them.

I’m it into the royals but we are doing a street party on Saturday. Why? Because it’s going to be a memory for the kids. We have had permission from the council to shut the street down. Having a bouncy castle, face painter and singer.

went to the jubilee concert cos I got tickets free and steps was there 💃

What will they do about money, will it just be gradually phased out?
I expect so, it will be so strange as she is the only monarch I can remember and I am in my 60's, my MOther saw 3 monarchs in her lifetime.

Honestly couldn’t care less. Soz Liz but thanks for the two days off 👍🏻
Exactly, I said indifferent in the poll here but my real feelings are just grateful for another day of bank holiday I don't care about the reason.
What I am more annoyed about is the money wasted on all the celebration of the opening of the Elizabeth Line" (also stupid name) on things like brazilian dancers etc,

I cannot imagine the amount of people in London and Windsor next weekend. It will be absolutely crammed. Good job covid isn't what it was otherwise it would be the most super spreader event out there.
Im sure if covid was what it was, none of this would be going on anyway? Come back covid ( joke) . . All is forgiven, Im not fussed for any of this BH malarkey. . Itll just turn into a 4 day bender for most people!

I think it is quite something that the Queen has reigned for 70 years. The thought of there being someone else on the throne seems so alien to me .

I do like the Queen .

There's a thing on at my little one's school , parents can go in for the little fair in the afternoon. There's some events in the market place in our Town, and a bit bunting up in places. I think this is organised by the town council so it will be out of the Christmas lights / hanging basket budget.

In 2012, my oldest got a commemorative mug for school for that jubilee.

I’m gutted I won’t be in the UK for Jubilee. I’d have loved to have gone to a street party, bring some cake, have a few drinks etc. If I’d known about it (well, paid attention) earlier I’d have arranged to go and stay there that weekend.

Not celebrating with a street party, being forced to socialise with people I don't know and wouldn't normally speak to is my idea of hell 🤣🤣

But we are having a family gathering on one of the days and I'll definitely watch the trooping of the colour and the parade as we do stuff like that so well. Concert I'll probably have on in the background. It's also history that unlikely won't be seen again for possibly hundreds of years. And certainly not in our lifetimes.

Honestly thank god for these times because otherwise this country would have nothing to bring it together or celebrate. No independence days etc. It would be pretty dull.

I've been surprised how many flags I've seem up around my way (together with Ukrainian flag), and also how many people seem to have flag poles in their gardens these days too.

I remember the silver jubilee and getting a special coin at school . .
I also remember my daughters getting a beautiful bone China cup from school ( must have been the golden jubilee?)
Did schools give a anything for the platinum jubilee or do funds no longer stretch to that?

Personally I don’t really care as horrible as that sounds. My grandmother was a huge fan of the Royal family.

I’m annoyed by the four day bank holiday. I can’t see my therapist until next week because of it and I opening times for the gym I wanted to visit today has been pushed back by two hours.

Have I got this right: we won't get post today or tomorrow but it'll be normal on Saturday?

I am waiting on a medical letter was was up thinking about it
Royal Mail has confirmed there will be no collections or deliveries on Thursday or Friday as they are both bank holidays.

People are too sensitive it's a term of endearment within the ranks ...so I'm told.
Too right people are too sensitive. I mean just look at how defensive some British people can get when the misdeeds of the British empire are mentioned lol. Seems like a touchy subject, no?

Also the whole 'term of endearment' thing just doesn't stand-up. The logic of “We’ve been calling them that for so long, that any racial connotations have wore off” in general that the BBC commentators used seems like something out of a comedy skit tbh.
