“The Ick”

About 9 years ago when I was about 20, I'd been texting this guy that I really fancied in college. We'd lost touch for a couple of years while we were both at different universities but he messaged me on facebook out of the blue asking how I was while we were both at home for the summer, we exchanged numbers and were flirting for a while. He asked if he could pick me up from my house and take me out for date, to which I agreed.
And then he turned up in a Mini exactly the same as this
I felt so shallow but it instantly gave me the ick getting into it and it was all I could think about through our dinner date, knowing he had to drop me back off at home in it as well

To make things even worse I'd text my best friend from the toilet while I was on the date to explain about him picking me up in the old banger of a Mini (she literally lived in the house opposite my Mum and Dad's) and when he dropped me back off at home I could see her face poking around her bedroom curtain to have a look, and the curtain was shaking because she was laughing so much I could have died.

A few years ago I got chatting to a guy in one of my seminars at uni. He's 9 years younger than me and he asked me out. I let him down gently, but he still sends me the occasional "How's u?" (yes, u) or "xx". I just ignore it because I don't like just chatting, my tolerance for idle chat died when MSN did. Anyway he's just sent me a "" emoji apropos of nothing. It creeps me the duck out for some reason and... What do they think you're going to respond to that?!

It reminded me of a guy I was talking to on tinder who, if I didn't respond within a few hours because I was working or whatever, would send a follow up message saying things like "I'm dead from lack of attention." wtf?

As i was quite slutty in my early twenties i drunkely snogged him on a nightout. So ever since then he has messaged me with the "Hows u?" all that kind of stuff and polite with him but I dont really engage with him. Ive noticed he will stop messaging me when he gets back with his baby mama and then when they break uo he messages again(this really winds me up as hes not the first guy to do that to me). He keeps saying how he will take me out and stuff and I just tell him im busy and not looking for anything but he pulls the "ill take you out as friends". I genuinely think hes holding onto that drunken snog from years ago. Hes not bad looking but my god his desperation is so offputting. I have nothing in common with him apart from getting pissed in the early 00s.

Whenever I read the bad dates thread and the ick I always wonder how these people would be spoken about if they were straight women and how low the "crazy" bar must be for men.

Urgh said guy from my post has just messaged me "evening Mrs ... what are doing friday night?!?!?!" Ive already told him that im not going out with new ppl while this is going on. I'm sticking with the same people ive been around since lockdown.

He just had to stress that it was "as friends" when i said no

EDIT: Ive told him as my mum is finally coming home from the hospital/respite(shes been in since march) im not spending anytime with new people because i dont want to put her at risk.......hes now asked if i fancy going to his for a chinese.....ffs what part is so difficult to understand?!?! Oh and I now have a pic of him in his boxers and socks because he has lost weight.........my tina cant be anymore sealed.

I had my ultimate ick last month when a guy from hinge (who had been over the top needy even tho we hadn’t even met yet). We were speaking a little bit here and there but I had been really put off him for MANY reasons, I did however give him the benefit of the doubt ‘maybe he IS one of the good guys! ’. Unfortunately during this time, a close family friend passed away unexpectedly. Myself and my family were heart broken and I told this guy that I was really upset. Anyway, he was like oh I’m so sorry blah blah... I said thank you and carried on. He messaged me the next day saying hey or something and tbh I couldn’t be dealing with a conversation and really, we don’t need to be talking non stop every day, especially while I’m heartbroken from such a loss!? I don’t even speak that often to my best friends.

Anyway, so I ignored didn’t open WhatsApp either so it wasn’t a straight ignore. But I posted on Instagram AND HOW DARE I DO THAT WITHOUT RESPONDING TO HIM!!! As soon as I saw he saw my story, I received a bombardment of messages calling me IGNORANT and RUDE?! And he proceeded to block me on everything

I blocked him back and have deleted him because I KNOOWWW he would add me back. He was actually insane and stands out as my all time ick without even meeting him. This man has the potential to be an actual stalker and I’m glad I got away with just the stories to tell

It makes me so angry because it’s either this crazy needy stuff or they’re so unbothered that they kill all of the conversations Men need to find some balance!!! I know it's not the same as losing someone, but boundaries wise, I told some guy I'd been dating that I'd be unavailable for a week because my twin was back home from another continent for a week. He knew that me and my twin are super close and have the same friend group so we had a tonne of stuff planned. Dude proceeds to blow up my phone and ask why I'm not talking to him. duck. Off.
