Maybe he meant it figuratively? Like he was sleep walking through his life and decided becoming a skydiving instructor was his thing? Or he was in a cult for a little? I wonder what’s the story
You’re reminding me of my own language partner. He was from China. It was before the internet and news became what it is today, so I had to take his word on everything … there was an enormous cultural barrier

My mind was *boggled.* Their diet and education system was so foreign. He told me his girlfriend stopped wanting to see him so he made a thousand origami cranes for her. I thought it was excessive and creepy behavior so there was a slow fade (ghosting wasn’t invented yet!)
A few years later I learned that people make paper cranes in bulk in order to make wishes

He’s so cute lol. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to lean into the experience.
ETA: I absolutely signed up to the program in order to meet cute guys. He was not it, but it would be cool if I had a friend in China to visit. His hometown specialized in silk manufacturing. I still have the silk scarf he brought back for me after winter break…. The color scheme is yellow, orange, and green. If anyone knows that there is any special meaning behind this combination I am all ears
