Hi everybody,

I'm new here but have been reading for a few weeks. Like many others, MP brought me here because my reaction to some of his vlogs were: "WTF" and I figured I couldn't be alone in having the impression that he was taking his viewers for a ride. It's a shame because, before his Christmas vlogs last December, I rather enjoyed his output... sometimes sped up.

Anyhow, I thought some of you might be curious about the château Sara and Steve bought in Dordogne, so here is a link to a real estate agent's website regarding their - future - new home. The asking price was 1.32M euros (which seems a bit high to me, but Dordogne is a very fashionable département, especially amongst the British community). The tower was built in the 16th century and the rest of the building was built in the Renaissance style. There is 15 ha of land. I think the inside is nice, but still too expensive considering one façade of the building is right off the road and the chateau itself is not all that grand. But then again, château real estate is expensive in Dordogne.

I wonder what their immigration status in France is, they're not supposed to stay more than 90 days in France and I doubt they have already obtained a "carte de séjour" knowing how complicated French administration can sometimes be...

Hey there! Welcome and thank you for the Website to see that chateau!
So far, I REALLY like the looks of it!!! I wish they showed a picture of the kitchen and baths.
AND so far.....it seems in better shape than the SHITOO.
I can't wait to see what Sara and Steve do with it to make it their own.

But how about the positano diaries garden? It full to the brim with veggies and there's only 1-2people working on it,with full time jobs...and no digger😉
Reminds me of my dad's garden. He used to work 10 hour days on construction, and spend 2 hours every evening tending it. When the gardener loves his/her garden, it shows. It's a job for Dan and he works in a toxic zoo.

I move the cursor to your avatar on the left of your message and I see that you have made 454 messages.
1000 posts, Phoenix.
At the rate I post, SJ will be in a care home and BJJ will visit her on the weekends with his husband before I become a VIP member. He will sneak in liquor-filled chocolates because they won't let her have booze.

I am sure that Dan is more than capable of showcasing his skills but think that it would be wasted on the sort of people who would be impressed by a stay at Lalande.
I agree! He’s also appears to be quite a busy fellow and is just fitting this in or perhaps ‘warming up’ (should this become a more regular gig).
In his previous vlog he addressed the “purists” about his ratatouille. I’m not ‘saying’ that you are a purist @purejuice, but your menus have been sublime!

Look at this three-course menu at a nearby restaurant in LaChatre for €30.

Whilst I take your point - the Chateau is providing great fayre if Dan is cooking. So if I was staying there, my choices are a taxi to this restaurant. Pay for an aperitif and wine and an after dinner drink and coffee. Have a taxi back. Have my dietary needs been catered for? My meal will be alone or with the company I have taken with me. At LaLande, no travel, all these said items included and it would be fascinating to spend an evening with them. I might have to dry up the dishes, and I might get a dance. Clearly the people who go there are not only interested in the food and how much it will cost. Sure, it may not be an inexpensive option but I think it is priced so that if they have four or more guests the cost would work out that all of the chateau occupants are eating for free after all the costs are taken into account. As Clara has pointed out before, SJ believes people should pay for her company.

Wow, I guess it depends on how much wine I could get. 20 euro for cheese and bread isn't so bad if I can drink 4 glasses of wine to go with it. I'd expect a couple of bottles with dinner for 50 euro for the slop I see them serve on most videos.

I wonder if she is the type who dollops a piece of sauce/pure and splatter it with the back of a spoon. Because in her mind it's very chefy and fancy...
She most certainly does!! I loved how in the last vlog SSB distracted Maaaaarie as she was assembling the dessert plates. Maaaarie was doing a version of what you described, but made a slop with the sauce due to the distraction. I believe she was otherwise quite focused.

There are a few Michelin-star restaurants in Paris, Geneva, Madrid and Amsterdam that charge €45 for a three-course lunch (€55 including four glasses of wine). Dinners are more expensive, obviously, but they have the prestige that Lalande doesn't.

Pay attention Marie, you're messing up your plating!

I’d rather eat Dan’s cooking and pay more.

It looks like a manor house with a tower attached in my opinion. On the other hand, the Chateau (Castle) de Hautefort is one I would love to visit in the same region….where “Ever After” was filmed.

The salmon is the least of the menu. It's designed to show off the garden produce, with tomatoes for the salad raw and cooked, potatoes for the frites dug same day, ratatouille and berries fresh from the garden. It's well designed to be partially cooked in his clean home kitchen, without much last minute cooking at the chateau. He's waiting until the last minute to pick the berries. It's thoughtful and well-executed and the first meal ever at Lalande I'm aware of to feature garden produce. I don't think it's worth 50€ but that's not his decision and no number of pain in the ass sauces would make it so.
Here's the €31 dinner from a local restaurant: You need spacious onsite refrigeration to cook like this (vichyssoise, terrine, foie gras) and an empty kitchen to make sauces or slow cook veal. Not sure veal, calf's head, bream, or duck would sell to SJ's very unsophisticated punters, who probably would freak at the thought of eating guinea hen too. SJ's amateur kitchen does not provide any such opportunities of cooling, cooking, or exotic meat choices. Salmon and frites, perfectly judged.

Couldn't agree more, fresh produce from the garden, excellent stuff. I am looking forward to seeing how he will integrate the beetroot in the ratatouille! And I doubt it will be "fish and chips" style, even if there are chips and fish!:p

The wine she serves her paying guests comes from supermarket bought boxes, the cheapest kind. She places the boxes in the fridge, because when it's chilled much of the taste is gone anyway and its lousy quality is less noticeable. 4 glasses of that would guarantee a headache, the same night not even the next morning. SJ herself mixes her wine with a lot of water to prevent this. And drinks the good stuff in private, obviously.

The real reason he's using stuff from the garden is because of the budget SJ is paying him, leaving no room for expensive bought supplies. He is clever enough to work with that, but I doubt produce from that garden has the quality that it should. And there certainly won't be enough to use every weekend she has paying guests.

Long live tattle 😈

Dan has proven to be a genius in his own right in so many ways, but unless my theory is correct, that he is making a statement about the obscene cost of a Lalande dinner by serving peasant food, this is one time I think Dan is making a bad decision. As a trained chef, he could showcase a much better fare than freakin' fish and chips, bruschetta and ratatouille, IMO. He could have showcased regional specialties! But I trust that it'll all be "cheffy and fancy and pretty." :m

I completely understand you thoughts - prehaps he was stunted by both budget !!! And a desire not to have him succeed
And remember NUTTI the guest manager is not going to let him show up her best friend in life roadside florist killer …..

Having seen the level of LACK of cleaning 🧼 in the cess Pitt deliplated kitchen ….. his all singing and dancing sparkly hygienist kitchen

I’d rather fish n chips 🍟 than brown sludge deliberately hidden in a ruby sauce …….

That’s the difference in a trained CHEF 👩‍🍳
And
