Podcasting and Youtube channels are absolutely a job now, and they have been for awhile. That's why we're watching (even you) and that's why we're here talking about it. So far there is no proof that they are evading taxes, only speculation. This guy was recommended to me (don't remember by whom) and he started his channel with student loans that he still hasn't paid back. That seems way shadier than using your own money or inheritance to start a channel.

It was me. I think it was by watching him I saw how honest someone can be about their income & it how he scrimped and scraped and lived cheaply to get going. He doesn't got in fancy schmanzy hotels all the time and gives a lot of cash away as he says in this explainer.

I see a fair few oldies on there and on Tiktok! I think creativity is subjective as you say.

On the other hand re job titles, I wonder if that is a 'thing "these days? For example when sorting out insurance for cars or home etc. You need to put a job title. I just had a quick try on the online form, it doesn't come up.
Also for YouTubers and influencers who make a living showing pics of their home or DIY on their home with 'How to videos/vlogs' what would the implications be for insurers if that was their job title? Given the ease in which people can find things it is quite a worry.
One Vlog I follow in Sweden (gardening...I know I'm older) has had people turn up on her doorstep demanding tours of her garden. She bought another property specifically for her gardening/youtube business. I expect it is labelled under a business.
My point is that YouTube as a business raises all sorts of interesting questions. I think many an insurer/ tax man will have fun.
Point in question would be the 'influencers' on Instagram masquerading as Male escorts. I am sure the tax man would be very interested in them. Social media provides enough evidence.

Sorry, who here is scandalized by Trotter’s escort? No one, as far as I can tell. There’s no shame in sex work. We are disgusted by Trotter lying.

People are free do what makes them happy as long as they aren’t hurting others. However Michael’s Patreons will for sure be somewhat hurt by how he has lied to them about needing funds to restore the Beatrix Potter cottage.

Of course, if his Patreon was for expensive holidays, a personal trainer, hiring escorts and lord knows what else, there’s no way those Patreons would donate and he’d have no money.

What I am scandalized about is his apparent lack of self awareness. Boo hooing on screen a few short weeks ago about having been used and abused for 'his' designs. Cue ordinary folk giving him their hard earned cash without looking at the facts behind what he said & weighing up the truth behind it. Then he uses their money to hire himself a personal trainer & a cameraman. No work being done on the cottage at this moment. Then he spends more of the money he has been given to go on a jolly to Madrid. In the middle of a pandemic. That's what I am scandalised about. Leading people up the garden path by pretending to be one thing & actually being another. Like LOTTL & Ms Gibbons.

Try being thankful for all the old people who created the internet. If it wasn't for them you wouldn't have the ability to gossip, watch YT, make broad generalizations & passive aggressive remarks while never leaving the comfort of your home.

@nuff said is kinda right tho. Those old people who created the internet were young and had vision when they did... and besides, the majority of social media platforms used to gossip were created by college students or fresh out of college people (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, even YouTube and Google). It is rarely old people that revolutionize society it's young people... who subsequently become old but that doesn't take away from their achievements.

I suspect that everything in Patreon has been whitewashed and sanitised to within an inch of its life. I daresay this will end up as poor Teabag has been through such an awful time lately, mental health has nosedived due to D and A's "theft" of their own design, online trolling and stress from heavy workload of filming, finishing part of his folly and keeping up with his new squeeze, that he was instructed that he needed to take a holiday to relax and reset. The old dears and superfans are probably delighted that he has found some nice new friends to play with and will want him to invite his little friends back to tea with him at Trotterville. I suspect he'll need to provide them with something more "stimulating" than Fortnum and Mason Royal Blend however.

It's got nothing to do with creativity (filming one's own life isn't a creative act) - it's more to do with desperation! SJ has spent years partying and traveling and hasn't spent a penny of her own money on renovating the shato - she now wants other people to do that so that she doesn't have to sell her flat in London and can continue to party and travel.

The vlogs merely mirror the ineptitude and laziness that led to their making - they're a celebration of laziness and nothingness, and are consequently extremely boring!

MojoDublin's videos are much more interesting - they're well put together, creative, and highly amusing! You should start your own channel...

And making YT videos isn't a métier - anyone can pick up a phone and make a video. None of them have had any training in film-making and it shows.

It is a real job in today's world. Look at all the millionaires that came out of YouTube. Same goes for "influencers" on instagram making a ton of money. They are walking adverts for companies and are being paid for it. It doesn't matter if you have training or not; look at teens like Emma Chamberlain, 19, who started making videos at 15-16 yo, she didn't have any training yet she had a huge impact on Gen Z and a ton of copycats (copied her style of editing, her humor...) followed suit. Now look at her, she lives in a huge mansion in LA and now is an égérie for Louis Vuitton. In today's world, with these new jobs you don't need training to get started, you train along the way, learning and perfecting what you do as you go . Besides, you don't need real training to be a cashier or working at Macdonalds. Even models, you just need to look good and learn to walk that is it, yet it is still a job. It is not the amount of training that determines whether a job is a job. Those YouTubers and influencers who make millions pay their taxes and contribute to society this way, so it is a "métier", maybe not in the traditional sense of the word, but a job nonetheless. Also anyone can pick up a phone and make a video, but not everyone can make a living off of it... that is precisely what makes it a job and not a hobby.

They'll give out refunds to any complainers within reason, but there is no way they would consider his account fraud because his kitchen was almost but not completely finished by Christmas.

I agree, his account is not considered fraud, they'll just return your money. The donations are mostly very small sums and they don't want to spend their time and resources over a few bucks. Only if cancellations are so many and people withdraw their donations in a short time, their pr-department will assess the situation and probably close the account.
