Roof, walls, windows, heating first. The kitchen should wait until those are done. Otherwise it's like putting lipstick on a decrepit pig. Forget the China, it's probably going to the Netherlands when Phillipa scampers back with his 'things'.
Heating? complicated as traditionally the Chateau was empty all winter. Easter saw first creep back except for skeleton staff to maintain.
Windows? Will be heat escape routes
Walls? Not sure here
Roof? Apparently up to date
Kitchen? Every meal, 3 x a day, staff and guests, prepared on a filthy table. We’re all different but I’d be Fleurie-ing the hell out of that kitchen.

Isn't he waiting for the return of Davy and the purch

Regarding the pergola, I think DTM is waiting for the return of Davy and the purchase of espalier trees before he can complete the pergola. There was mention of planting fruiting espalier trees directly in front of each of the pergola uprights, pear and apple, I think. I don't really see why the tree planting would effect finishing the project. Could it be that the trees are not currently available or there's a seasonal window for these this type of planting? No idea and it shouldn't effect the design of the structure. But, I believe that's what's happening, or not happening with the pergola. Remember too it was left to Ombeline to re-tie the grape vines to the wall after lazy Dan and lazy SteFanny just left them to rot on the ground. To me it just appears that no-one, not even the owner's of the HMN are dedicated to seeing the pergola project finished. If I was paying a gardener/handyman to do the job, there'd be a definite 'get those grapes back up on the wall immediately after you finish the entire pergola construction' or I'd be out there doing it myself. But they are all so wishy-washy about finishing any project.

Utterly and completely off topic, for which I apologise but I'm deep into historical Chinese drama too. Looking for recommendations, so if you're happy to share a list (with even more apologies for the total derail) I'd be very grateful. I'm not into Chinese fantasy series, just historical drama. I'm currently watching "The Longest Day in Chang'an" for the 100th time because it's that good! Not just good, but the most sublimely astonishingly remarkable series I've ever seen. I also watch Taiga drama from Japan.
i was and still am in love with "Nirvana in fire", but you probably saw it (it's sort of canon, i heard). This is a list of those i watched so far and i realy liked: Imperial coroner, Long ballad, Sword snow stride (although it's on border with fantasy), Legend of the Phoenix, Love like galaxy and perhaps Dream of splendor (this is more historical romance). There was another one but unfortunately I saw only 5 very promising episodes - Luoyang. I heard some good things about Winds from Longxi and it's on my list. Others on my list that i didn't see yet are: Legend of Haolan and Ruyi's love in the palace (costumes and hairdos are out of this world).

I mean, can anyone be arsed with Facebook these days? Last time i went on it was just grannies posting lost dogs from Canada 'shared in Liverpool,UK' or peoples status' checking themselves in at A&E for the 'U OK Hun?' Comments.

On dans, latest botchit adventure...Let's face it Dan rolls his eyes at everything chateau-verse related, so I just can't see him researching and faithfully restoring a building. His style is brico, ikea and amazon prime. He always seems to dispise everything about chateau life.

Instead, I can picture Dan turning the ruins into a paint gun centre rather than becoming a chateau restorer. God just imagine, he'd be in his annoying boytoy mode.
No, his style is Poundland, B&M and Wish.

And I adore this comment from Alexger85!

Yes we did roof, electrics, plumbing, boiler, heating, walls but then bathrooms and kitchen were right up there and we ran in tandem

you know...the best businesses sometimes start with a silly idea...after it became a succes all the people say...damn why didnt i think of that...

The plan can work...when you get people with skills enthousiastic...about the plan....it for sure can work..Dan can film it..and live from the views on YT...but it all starts or ends with getting enough skilled people in...i know there will be people who have skills and would like to take this project on...i think about retired engineers, architects...marketing, internet... etc..who want to set their teeth in it..have a nice time together and get things done...
SpaceX seemed like a mad idea when Elon Musk started it and ran it at the same time as Tesla and Solar City...but Elon Musk had just sold Paypall and had millions to spend. Even so, he almost went under with all 3. Dreams are nice but you can't build them on smoke and mirrors.

Does Nicki Positano wear a wig? I love her just wondering.
I am a faithful Nicki watcher. I just long to live somewhere that doesn't get buried on snow for six months a year. And grow my own food.. The steps are a bit much, but her love of animals and Carlo is real and beautiful. I could watch with the sound off just for the beautiful views. Her hair has got to be her own, its fabulous.

Nothing. The first phase of works required is massive and chances are as he goes on he will discover more massive problems which weren't apparent at first i.e foundations or structural issue with the bit of structure left due to roots of the trees that have grown in all places they shouldn't have grown in. Lets say he's lucky and the foundations are fine, he has to get rid of all of the vegetation inside and around the shitoo asap, he has to put a roof on the place if the current walls can support it, looking at them, they can't, so they will need work first, then windows and doors. He will have to apply and wait for permits for all of these works and be able to spend substantial chunks of money to move forward.

And all of this work is purely to make the place wind and watertight. Inside it would still be a shell, no plumbing, no electrics.
The more time passes that the building is not W&W the more it deteriorates and is beyond saving.
He is also going to have to stabilise and reinforce the structure before it can hold the roof

Ouf! Well that was a marathon catch up. Sorry that I have repeated many of your comments before catching up. Just goes to show we're all very like minded. And I had been doing so well keeping on top of tattle... until Friday. Son came home an incubus of flem and bacteria. No sooner he was off the train than I had him in the pharmacy for a covid test. Negative thank goodness. I have spent the weekend enjoying being with him, feeding him up and making sure he has all he needs before his train this evening. Even hoping to get to the beach for a stroll before the train.

Hurricanes are a new phenomenon for me and my not-yet-moved-into house on Sanibel !! aaaagh. I shall take a leaf from Fanny's Farcical Fantasy life and go to Disneyland Paris as i am much closer to that one than FL at the moment.
I love Sanibel. Used to live in Ft.Myers Beach. Being by the Gulf waters is magical, until the hurricanes blow in. My sibling and both children lose their homes in Panama City to Hurricane Michael...the hurricane was not supposed to go that way but sadly it did. They all moved North due to PTSD ... Not sure you can escape weather anywhere. There have been Tornadoes near me for the first time ever... Stay safe everyone. Prayers all around

Is it possible that Dan has bought this run down chateau for "un euro symbolique"? Explanation on this link (sorry, it's in French). But what basically happens is that you can purchase property for €1 and then pay rent, charges, whatever (plus the renov costs as in this case). There can be many, many hidden costs but it could also a lucrative arrangement.

I watched a few of her vlogs and was put off big time for her telling Americans not to act like Americans when in France. It's was so condescending. I got the impression she was on the look out for a rich elderly French husband with a chateau to get her hooks into - one that would be wooed by her southern charms and keep her in croissants, berets and striped Breton tops. Then she began e-begging big time and I just switched her off.
😂😂😂
I watched the croissant one yesterday- well started watching- lost interest. Where’s she from? I didn’t catch Southern vibes from her- but wasn’t thinking about that at the time. I don’t remember her sounding like Paula Dean y’all. 💁🏼‍♀️
Oh and another question- she went alone- moving to France- who films her? Does she use a tripod?
Something made me ask this....

I think that is the arrangement Phil and Angelina-Ballerina have for their chateau.

Thank you very much. I've seen all of these except The Wind Blows from Longxi, and Louyang. If you ever want recommendations, please ask and I'll be happy to oblige. 😊

Yes queeeeen!!!

Entree: prawn cocktail (10 minute prep)
Chicken breast + veggies (prep 30 min)
Dessert: pie, fig and the medieval fruit dessert (no prep time)

Looking at the menu: don't you think it was a very light dinner? I would have gone hungry after 2 hours. Half a chicken breast, small sized potato, carrots. That's definately not worth 50 euro nor is it filling!

I would love to see a Greek taverna party where they smash the ugly phillipa plates while dancing the Sirtaki!
Watching the reaction of the guests' faces when SJ was droning on about the prawn cocktail, I don't think any of them were impressed by her offerings that evening, and certainly not worth E50 ph unless you were intending to make up for it by drinking at least a bottle of wine each!
The med-evil pudding looked particularly disgusting, alongside the unripe figs, WTAF?

So Isabelle6541 has never returned here to report back, has s/he? Sorry haven't read all the previous posts on this thread yet.

I was wondering whether @Clara Burnett has any intel/heard anyone at the HMN bragging about Isabelle's fakery/scam and "alleged" infiltration of TL? Surely, if they had and that is the case, then they just couldn't stop crowing about it over copious amounts of alcohol of course, could they?

they should give money to me...🙄 if they wanted me to become a Petherick
What I found really funny was that I mentioned a couple of days ago that I felt that Gwen is rather camera shy and prefers to take a back seat in filming.
Low and beyond, very next vlog, she is seen in the to date half illuminated chapel talking direct to camera - full hair and make up in place - first time in a long while that she has made that kind of effort! :D
Not having a go at Gwen as I personally know only too well how hard it can be after having babies, just v.v. strange imho!
The entire chateau verse most defo read here!

VantheMan needs a “Ruins Unwrapped” channel so we can all send him this gift. He’s going to need a lot of them to keep Dan-ah’s party dresses dry!!!!

Unless you guys think Dan is stashing half a million somewhere right now, there is no way you will see any B&B, "patreons staying over" or anything of the sort. That place doesn't have a roof. There are trees growing inside. It needs a massive amount of specialised work and unless he's drawing on some substantial fund at the moment (my guess is he doesn't) there can't be any progress. He can't start by spending a few coins here, a few coins there, the first phase of required works will cost. A lot.

Remember, Fanny's shitoo had a roof, and one in good condition at that (according to her) and (somewhat) habitable rooms but she still spent 300K on that phase of works. Do you think Dan has 300K, a flat in London or an early inheritance from Daddy right now?
A fool and his money are easily parted.

It's a marketing method which has proven to be succesful. E.g. a supermarket in NL gives 1 sticker per 10 euro. When you fill up xx booklets full of stickers you get a sollingen knife set, or 50% discounted disney tickets. Meanwhile it takes years to fill a booklet.
Shell has lots of campaigns like that in colab with phillips.

This marketing method you apply on shitooverse.
Each month you are a patreon, you'll see your progress of filling your (digital) booklet

So he could start from scratch and there will be contributers because of their desire to stay in a dreamy shattoo, because eventually they can have a "free holiday" or a "discounted" holiday. In due time of course ☺
