Why does he NEED a drone, and all the equipment he is acquiring? Why does he need to take online "vlogging lessons" for a daily vlogging short? How much better use of his time and money to make videos cooking for his family IMO, rather than spending so much time and money on trips to Brico, gas, wear and tear on the van, constantly more supplies?
I can only hope you are right there, as I don't wish anything like that on Dan or any of the other sycophants. As for her two former guardians, yes, wine is always involved when it comes to stories around her HMN. I sincerely hope Dan is shooting the diy of her pantry as content for his own vlog, to please his viewers. I suspect however, as this is always the case when SJ is involved, he is also (and maybe even mostly) doing it to please SJ. She has not asked him to start the work on the pantry and it's not that there's nothing else for Dan to do, there are even chores that certainly have a higher priority, like finishing that pergola. If, as I suspect, he's doing all this extra work to surprise SJ with and with it to solidify his position in her entourage, he has lost the perspective you talk about. As for the guys being alcoholics, I doubt that. Must have been a joke. I agree, no recovering alcoholic would drink wine or talk about it like that. If Frank actually considers himself an alcoholic, I'd say that's another unwanted gift from their time spend taking care of her HMN.I think you underestimate, vastly, the appeal of Dan's renovation videos. Many of us started watching SJ for the reno and stayed for the train wreck. And the shittoo provides Dan and his fans with endless reno content, as does his own house. If he quit Lalande tomorrow, he'd still be Dan and have plenty of video content which may not appeal to those who require train wrecks for daily spectacle.
Your friends, who are the nicest guys, were way more mesmerized by SJ and LaLande than Dan is. They really went through a wormhole there, the costumes, the hospitality business, the food styling, the running of a large and exogamous, as they thought, farmhouse of opera and culture. There may have been wine involved, as FD recently came out as a recovering alcoholic featuring shots of a beautifully laid new year's table, beautifully styled food, and wine with two beautifully styled goblets. (No recovering alcoholic I know drinks wine or objectifies it in sensuous pictures.)
I don't see Dan doing anything like that. Not. Anything. His barn alone provides him with five years of reno content I, and thousands of others, will be delighted to watch. The movement of Annalise and the scrumptious little boys into rural Francophone society is a trend gathering momentum all his fans are thrilled to see. And, proverbially, notoriously, away from Lalande and everything insular and incestuous and immoral that it stands for.

Nobody is forcing him to work for her though. The garden work he does for her (mostly digger related stuff and mowing the lawn) is quite common in the area and a lot of people need help with it. It does not matter what talent Teabag has, and he has many to be fair, its not in his make-up to work at anything or sustain anything, and I cant see (pretending to have) ADHD and taking Ritalin will improve that situation either. Also, just because you think that someone would be better at it than Dan does that mean he shouldnt do it? thats a strange concept! I suppose he wants to get better at it but I'm not sure how much better he can get or more he can do with his limited surroundings and content...which actually provide good enough content for many and he's pretty natural at it from the start. Professional filming guy? Definetely not, that would be an insult for professionals who has spent years studying the subject. however as he follow courses he will learn to view things from different perspectives to better himself and he could become an editor for youtubers. Although they have money, It's going to be quite tough for them I think, we yet have to know what they're really going to do with the chateau but:La Jolla (where I believe their house is) is one of the nicest places to live in California, a very wealthy area on the coast. Her mom seems the type who needs to be envied and viewed as a top 1%er. I don't think she'll get the same attention in France as she was getting in her upscale Cali lifestyle. I think they will very much regret that move.
Sincerely hope that you are correct.I like Dan. He and Annalise and the boys all lived in France and were happy long before anyone heard of Steph, Lalande and the circus show it has become. Yes Dan is very involved with the place but if it all went wrong tomorrow and You Tube was no longer a thing and it all stopped, he like anyone else who is capable, adaptable, puts in a hard days graft and has many capabilities will do just fine, he has enough backbone to stay there on his terms as long as he wants to and if he goes elsewhere it will be Steph and Lalande that will realise what they have lost.

Well now with a workshop in the works, it looks like he's going to have two places to escape to. Annalise better have her laundry room soon or whatever she wants next!

Dan does not own the mower nor the digger. He would have to rent it off from Don Jarvis/brico. I doubt that SJ would lent her digger out the goodness of her heart to help Dan to increase his income. Also the area isn't densely populated and the jobs of digging and mowing might not give him the same sustainibility as working with SJ. However if there are more jobs for him to do in the area, I would highly recommened he would do it to become less dependent on SJ.
