Hi everyone - I’m not sure if anyone can help but I guess it’s worth a try, thank you in advance! 🙏

I received a gift card for Christmas but it doesn’t work when I try redeeming it. I’ve just noticed the gift card number printed on the receipt doesn’t match the one on the card - the last 2 digits are different.

They bought it from Tesco, so I wondered if maybe the checkout person activated the wrong card number by mistake?

Does anyone know if they manually type in the number or scan the card, in which case it’s unlikely to be a human error?

I was going to go to Tescos tomorrow but I get nervous about confrontation. It’s not the end of the world, I just feel bad that the person spent their money on a card that can’t be used 😣
Could your friend have perhaps bought more than one gift card, and got the receipts mixed up?

Been given co-codamol I take them at night because they just knock me out, I’ve been prescribed naproxen & omoprazole (sp?) so hopefully they might work for me. It’s just the constant stitch pain that’s getting me down & the back ache. I’ve been to work today, come home & feel completely drained.
Becareful with co-codomol as it can make you constipated, I personally don’t think it’s that great anyway. naproxen is the good stuff. 💛

That’s

Sounds a bit odd to me too. I’d definitely think they should wait a few more days. Were the coats of value? Could it be a scam?
Yeah, the story sounds a bit odd, especially as I put my address in the sender’s section. If there was an issue, the package would have made its way back to me.

It’s an old Zara coat sold for €12, but it kind of annoys me that I need to refund without tangible proof that it was never received.

Has anyone ever missed an item on self-scan checkout? I used the hand scanner in Sainsbury's and forgot one item (a pack of magnums if it makes a difference) in a shop of about 15 items. I got picked for a control check and it appeared. The woman didn't give a hoot. It happened once to me before about 2 years ago, a pack of bread mix in a huge store cupboard shop.

My anxiety has me thinking I'm going to be banned from the store - someone talk sense into me!!!
Once or twice in a big shop. I’ve also accidentally scanned things more than once and only noticed when it’s all come up on the screen at the end or checking the receipt later so I think it balances.
Staff don’t care, they’re just there to do their job, they’re not flagging you or something.

Besides, these stores have figured out the losses from theft or unintentional not scanning are
Worth less than the cost of employing the checkout staff. They’re still quids in.

It is and goes back to the start of covid over four years ago. I do know it’s complex and appreciate how busy CAB are, I hope you didn’t think I meant otherwise with my comment. Being rural and them only open three days a week makes it hard to keep on top of things I know.
No not at all. The branch I work at is dedicated to a single town so we're open all week but many of our neighbouring branches cover all or part of a whole county and are spread pretty thin doing a day or two (or sometimes less) across a number of towns. Add to that cuts to our funding, the increasing tendency of councils , jobcentres etc. to refer people to CAB (even for issues they deal with) because they themselves have had funding cuts and the explosion in people dealing with debt, money worries and housing issues and the loss of volunteers because they are worn out or disillusioned in trying g to solve unsolvable problems and it's a recipe for disaster. Not your problem of course - I just wanted to get it off my chest! 🥴

I’ve tried googling this but maybe I haven’t got the wording right 🤔
Does anyone know if an illegitimate (adult) child can contest the will of their biological father, if the child was never acknowledged by the father? I can’t go into too much detail but the mother never outright told the father he had a child, but other people have told him, and it is known locally that he has a child. I hope this makes sense 🙈
Unless we are talking mega money it's not worth it as the whole estate will be eaten up by solicitors costs and if the "child" loses they will be liable for the estates costs.
Also in England you can leave what you want to who you want and it is in very very rare circumstances that a judge would throw out/adjust a will.
In Scotland children are automatically entitled to a share if that helps.

I want to write a book - anyone done that? I have 15 pages of plot outline, character descriptions and motivations for the wheres, whens, hows and whys of the story, and the arc itself is finished and in my opinion, makes sense. But now for the writing of the story itself - I keep thinking "OMG my writing voice is so boring and how do I show, not tell, and why would anyone ever read this shit and do I even have what it takes to write in English since it's not my first language" and so on and so forth.

I’ve had government surveys in the post before, they’ve come in official brown envelope with gov.uk printed on it with an official return address. The letter inside also had a phone number on to call to check it was all legit. I rang and they confirmed it was them and it’s random postcode generated who fills it out but I could tell straight away it was legit. Sounds like your one isn’t though as no one should be asking for those kind of questions unless it’s dodgy people trying to scope out your house. If worried report it to the police and they can look into it and confirm if it’s a scam and try trace who sent it and why
Thanks, its was nothing like that, just a normal white envelope and no spare envelope to return it too, there's a neighbour who's police so I'll talk to him about it since he will have gotten one, I just didn't want to be going round neighbours asking since I didn't want them thinking I couldn't tell it was a scam since these days most people tell you how obvious scams are an since no one's posted about it either it didn't help, like I say it's just the first time I've ever gotten a letter, I had no clue that scams could be done as a questionnaire

I'm not sure how to approach it but I do feel if i was you I'd want to talk about it as that's a substantial amount of money.
Juat deleted my post because I asked him and it was something I knew about to do with our car 😬

That's what I was thinking. Sounds like they want someone to do the job without the title/payrise.
Just to be clear if it's a lateral move and/or similar work it doesn't necessarily mean there should be a title or pay rise. There could be many other reasons why the previous person was a manager.
Tbh it's very difficult to give advice without knowing the details but ultimately your friend needs to decide if she's happy moving over without a management title.

No I don't think you're being a cow. I think you should trust your gut reaction (I always trust it!) in the meet up that something wasn't right and keep some distance as you've already done. Time will tell whether anything develops between them, and it might be that you've sensed. As you aren't interested him in romantically then I'd just leave them to it, especially as he wasn't nice to you. It sounds like she isn't a trustworthy person either. I'd just keep it civil during work hours only - you've done nothing wrong x
I second this- it sounds like they've both extended the comfort of your boundaries despite you making it clear where they are and there's nothing wrong with reinforcing and withdrawing! Professional at work and that's all they get from you ❤

I have some coffee pods - not the standard nespresso ones but Lavazza ones - which I don't need anymore as the machine is broken. Can they be recycled or donated?
Either pop them in your local pass it on group, or you can get a free bag from PodRecycle (I think that's their name, they advertise in Aldi) to recycle them

No, they didn’t ask. They just used it and made me pay for it. They just explained the process of how they’re going to do the hair, but didn’t say toner is an extra cost.

The receptionist got really short with me when I asked about the discrepancy as if it was some kind of personal attack. As a client, it’s my right to ask.
To be honest this is why I barely go to the hairdressers. I like to know what I'm paying so I can budget etc and it's not a big surprise, but most salons seem to do this - not give a straight up price for the service. I find it so confusing and anxiety inducing I only go about once a year

I have an issue with an online merchant.

I purchased some items and paid for a express delivery. On the merchant’s website, it is indicated the buyer should receive their order within 3 business days of the order being put through.

It has been a week since I made the order and the order is still in the warehouse and has not been dispatched.

I have asked for a refund of the delivery fee as the delay is on the merchant’s end not the courrier. The merchant keeps responding to this query stating ‘you should receive your order within 3 days from now’.

It’s complete nonsense. I paid €20 for express delivery which is rather steep. I’m honestly at wits end because even with multiple emails, the order is still sitting in their warehouse and hasn’t moved.

Has anyone ever experienced something similar? How can I get the fee refunded?

It is just an internal HR investigation, I was worried to raise it anyway in case I was making a fuss. But HR keep pulling me in for further questioning, like Thursday I was in for an hour and a half whilst they asked me stuff like "how does he know what car you drive?" .... I drive to work so it's no secret
It sounds like perhaps he’s claiming it’s not unsolicited. While the HR action is horrendous for you and verging on victim blaming they need to have it tied up legally if he’s going to lose his job. While it’s horrible, he could sue them and go after you for false accusations if there’s any doubt. They just need to have it all in writing, from the horse’s mouth so to speak.
As distressing and unfair as it will be, it’s for the best. Stand your ground.
It’s exactly why so many people don’t bother to pursue these things and abuseres know that.

Depending on the size of your company and their insurance, they may be able to offer some formal help in terms of a talking therapy or similar.

Find a new dance class and forget the other lady and teacher. Business or no business it doesn’t sound like a nice environment. I can’t imagine anything worse that going back to a pissing match of popularity like high school tbh.

Re the business, keep doing what you’re doing. Keep an eye on that competitor to see what they’re doing well and badly and launch when you feel ready.
Exactly what I was going to say. Good advice here 😄
