How soon is too soon to put a christmas wreath on the door?
NEVER TOO SOON 😂 Christmas is my favourite time of year I’ve seen so many who have decorations and trees up. We’re doing ours next weekend because as a child my mum would never put the tree up until after my birthday so I’ve just carried on that tradition 😂

Does anyone self teach themselves coding? Am thinking of maybe trying it as a hobby but not sure of what programs/apps etc to go for, it would be more on the gaming side like modding

Look if there are any local groups that teach/help with coding.
Where we are we have a group specifically aimed at women/girls to teach and help with coding. All free run by volunteers

Thanks, I had a look but there's really nothing in my area that offers anything, it seems like collage would be my only option which with work am not able to do

I am getting put through training with my workplace but coding wasn't something they could offer either as it's more just the business, finance, admin etc

you should look at codecademy! It's free up to a point, I'm not sure what gaming languages they have but they do great intros to Python/Java and all that.

Hey wonderful Tattlers! Hoping this is the best thread for this!

I’m sure amongst you wonderful lot there are some UK HR bods! I’m wondering whether I can get any advice on a friends predicament! (genuinely a friend not a friend ;) )

They’ve been approached by their manager to fill a role which has opened due to the person currently doing that role getting a new job with the company.

However my friend is currently working as a Project Executive and the Role they’re being asked to fill was a Project Manager. But they’re being told their title would not change, which is a bit of a stumbling block for them as they’re keen to progress in career and be recognised for the job.

To be clear the role and responsibilities remain the same as when they were fulfilled by someone with the ‘manager’ title.

Is this legal? I feel like something sneaky is definitely happening here, it’s hard because my friend is so fed up with working with their current client and this move would alleviate a lot of the frustrations they have.

They have approached their manager to explain why the title is important (Getting respect from the new client, being able to sway stakeholders, and having recognition on the CV of what they’re actually doing), the main reason they are being given for not getting this is that there is another member of the team, also an exec level who joined at a similar time and has been acting up to cover long term sickness leave recently, and has been wanting a title change to reflect that, the manager has directly said giving my friend a manager role would make things difficult with the other team member.

I’m obviously my friends biggest hype girl, so I’m fighting the corner that this all sounds dodgy as heck! But I’m a collector of shetlands, not a HR prof! Anyone able to offer any advice 😊

They don’t have to give your friend a management title.

However if it’s important for your friend I would push for it. I don’t see why they would worry anout causing upset to somebody else in the business.

To me it seems more like they are worried your friend want a promotion WITH a payrise and they don’t want to give a payrise

That's what I was thinking. Sounds like they want someone to do the job without the title/payrise.

Just to be clear if it's a lateral move and/or similar work it doesn't necessarily mean there should be a title or pay rise. There could be many other reasons why the previous person was a manager.
Tbh it's very difficult to give advice without knowing the details but ultimately your friend needs to decide if she's happy moving over without a management title.

ok can someone please help me clarify when a gift card expires 😩 it says expiry is 20th November, does that mean today is my last day to use it or tomorrow? Just discovered that Clarks won’t let me use a voucher on the website and it’s Sunday trading so can’t go to a store, nightmare!

When I worked in retail the expiration date was usually the last day you could use it, so if it said expires 20th Nov then the 20th would be the last day, but every store might be different, their website should have a question section about their gift cards that hopefully explains it

Frustratingly they only say “24 months” as the time to expiry from purchase, and their online balance checker isn’t working, and no customer service on a Sunday ☹
