New Year's Day is awful (n).

I LOVE Daylight though and Afterglow.

Well, I went out for a drive today for the first time since Evermore came out and I have to say... it is not a good driving album. I LOVE it in general but did not enjoy driving to it, hahaha. Folklore is much better for driving and Lover is top tier for driving.
Lover is definitely the best for driving! Death by a Thousand Cuts - ‘I ask the traffic lights if it’ll be alright, they say I don’t know’. God I miss driving to work!

Amazing how her PR push went from solely being about who she was dating to trying to make political statements. I can’t think of any other singer who had such a revolution in their image after already being well established. Imagine Justin Timberlake out of nowhere on the Trolls PR tour suddenly talking non stop about French literature - few could manage what Swift has done 😂
I think she's just grown up and got more confident. I'm sure there will be plenty behind the scenes who are infuriated at her for speaking her mind. Good for her, I love Tay. Gutted I won't be seeing her this summer.

Whats the goss on Ariana and Scooter please? I know she’s sacked him once. Also why don’t you like what she represents?
Her whole image is just overly sexualised but so much of the music industry is like that now. Genuinely, I have no desire to see her butt cheeks and yet I have. Several times. It makes the music video channels impossible to watch. My kids have no need to see asses all day.

Music videos depress me, especially when all the women/ girls are half naked and the men have 5 layers of clothing on.

I think it's the cutesy-porn teen kind of look she has too. Not as bad as she used to be, but she's 27, not 17. She also needs to ditch the fecking ponytails. I get a headache looking at her. I'm not a big fan of her style of singing. But that's me. I'm 41. Ancient.

I'm not sure about the full tea re her relationship with Scooter. I know she had congratulated him on buying big machine but then deleted it and put out a post essentially supporting Taylor, which I think was then deleted also?

I think it’s safe to say Scooter has an almost unhealthy obsession with Taylor, to the point that if he wasn’t in the position he is in it would be considered inappropriate. His attempt to muzzle her, most recently before he sold the masters to Shamrock Holdings, and his refusal to sell her the recordings despite her clearly being more than interested is very, very strange. Weird, rat like man.

evermore's not quite as immediately amazing as folklore was, but there are absolute gems here. maybe it's because everyone *wanted* the folklore sound for so long and may be a bit jaded by a "part 2" so soon

anyway, after a 3rd listen; long story short, ivy, coney island, champagne problems, dorothea and marjorie are the ones 🙌

also, I feel like a proper tumblr swifty here, but there is the exact same birdsong sample at the exact same time on evermore as there is on exile. they are proper sister songs!

I love Betty - it was my immediate favorite when the album first came out, but I don't think it's that popular with anyone else.

Since then, I've listened to the entire album and enjoy a lot of the other songs just as much but still have a soft spot for Betty.

Love her or hate her, Taylor is a great songwriter, decent singer, and has a very good PR team. I know she has her issues with other celebs and some haters but she's a way better role model than any Kardashian or Love Island contestant.

I like how Taylor looks now better. She looks really healthy and happy. Like being with Joe has done a lot of good for her. She seemed to grow up after the Hiddleswift nonsense and personally I don't buy the Karlie stuff...it seems like wishful thinking to me.

I am sooo excited for Fearless now... I have a soft spot for Hey Stephen and can't wait to hear the rerecorded one. Will be removing all the originals and adding the new ones to my streaming playlist.
I'm excited for Today was a fairytale and the Other side of the door!

I’m so glad people in here are giving folklore the respect it deserves 🥲 I just can’t get into evermore as much as I did with folklore.

I wont do ratings cos I havent decided on that yet, but here's mine

The 1
I like this cos I too thought she's just gonna talk about Joe forever so it's nice to see her exploring a story about an ex (even if it's not about her)

Cardigan
I didnt like this on the first listen cos it was too Lana. Still wondering why it was chosen as the first 'single'. But I dont think it's possible to do the bait and switch first single with this album. It's a grower, great bridge.

The last great american dynasty
I loved listening to this the first time with the reveal that she bought the house and she was now the crazy woman they talked about living there. Reminds me of the lucky one.

Exile
Dont like Bon Iver's voice personally and I wish it wasnt a duet, but I love the metaphor. And I prefer it to the last time.

My tears ricochet
I try not to think about this being about Scott cos I like it as a love story gone wrong. Really great song, I approve as track 5!

Mirrorball
My least favourite. I think the imagery of a mirrorball doesnt go with the general vibe and old fashioned America I get from this album. And I just generally dont like it. BUT I think it couldve worked so well on Lover as track 5 and the archer could've come on folklore

Seven
Starts off cute, then gets sad :( Great descriptions and imagery of running around in fields as a kid

August
Love this, a highlight of the album! Couldve been first single (if it was august lol)

This is me trying
This was a skipper for me but I'm getting more into it.

Illicit Affair
My current fav. Makes me think I've been in this situation when I havent! The a million little times part makes me sad.

Invisible String
Very cute. It's a lot easier to digest songs about Joe now they've been together longer. Love the joe jonas line too. He makes it on another album haha!

Mad Woman
This one is ok, a bit boring maybe

Epiphany
I too think it's about medics then and now. It's a bit wishy washy though and dont fully get the lyrics.

Betty
I like this but not as much as everyone else. I like the part with the f word the most, doesnt feel gratuitous

Peace
Like the lyrics but not the format of the song really.

Hoax
Very simple arrangement, curious if this is a Betty story or a Taylor story (or both)

She has always done that since her early tours but it is a little old now. I saw her on the Rep tour, and I rolled my eyes at some of her speeches. It just seemed very disingenuous. Maybe I am just too old for that bit, lol. I think she is likely a very nice person but too sickly sweet sometimes, as she has admitted she is a huge people pleaser.
I didn't think Rep was as bad for it as 1989 was. That was really cheesy. Maybe it works for Americans more than us cynical Brits.

Woah hold your horses! He seems like a really nice, down to earth man who is that specific type of classic British actor who almost certainly could get a Marvel role tomorrow, but is happier doing quality work and not fixated on fame or money. If they are really dating I’d bet the attraction is that he takes her round his parents and they treat her the same as if she worked in an office. Which at her level of fame would probably be something she loved.

I actually prefer the non swearing version she did and not because I'm offended by swearing it doesn't bother me in songs. But she doesn't really suit it, reminds me of when kids say it to sound brave I have no idea why😂

Love her hair at the moment too. Im back being a big TS fan after this album❤

She said "cats, country western, gay pride. Things that make me, me."

I am not misquoting. She literally says that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is the "gorgeous" man (left) she apparently fell for at the Met Gala 🤔😆
This is the bit I struggle with the most, if gay pride made her her (because she is gay), wouldn’t she be out and proud regardless of what it meant for her career? Otherwise it’s really hypocritical isn’t it?

Wow. That is brilliant. She seems like a very generous and kind person regardless of her fame and fortune.
I really think most of the hate she gets is because she’s so kind. We’re so used to celebrities being brats, especially when they get famous so young, that when one isn’t we automatically assume it’s fake. I’ve never heard anyone with a bad story about her. For some reason it’s “cool” to hate on her. Also, she was crucified by the media in her early twenties for dating a totally normal amount of men.
