I felt I did when she was in uni, but she lost her way when she went to kings.
It felt like she did her masters to tick a box,
did YouTube to tick a box, but there was no passion for vlogging anymore.

If I had only started following her in the last 2 years I’d struggle to find anything about her that’s worth watching.
I loved the way she dressed, the jewellery and piercings might not be my style but it was “her”

She’s sold out, but she’s also to lazy to have sold out completely.
zack quitting his job sums them both up as a couple. There is no drive at all.
I don’t know where she’ll be in ten years time. It’s sad really.

I'm still baffled about Zack quitting his job to work for her. She doesn't work enough to justify it. I can understand her taking a break now if she wanted to because of her mum, but she's not been working much for ages now even before her mum got sick.

I find her much more tolerable than most other influencers that I used to follow. But still find her lazy and don't think her career is impressive. She had the opportunity to do anything and she could have really gone for it with her influencer career and used the connections wisely. She could have done campaigning, working with charities etc. Or even pursued a career outside of youtube but that would mean she couldn't spend her days being busy reading bookd and trekking across London to get her nails done lol. Her life does appear very boring.

They seemed to very vigilant about the rules during the summer because of her mum’s chemo and now she’s getting towards the end of her pregnancy I would expect she’s gonna be more careful, I reckon they’ll stay in London (I could be wrong)

This weekend was the first time she ever put other people's mentions of her on her IG (about the new vlog)... I don't remember a single time that she ever did this. When I saw it, I was like "the world is about to end"

So I’m not subscribed to her anymore but she has just had a video come up on my home page, how do we report her for not disclosing the video properly, no where does it say it’s sponsored except deep down in the description box, but all the comments are calling her out on how ill timed all of her content has been!

Those who compare themselves to Jess are making the choice to do so. Jess isn’t the girl next door & she never was unlike some influencers. If this makes you feel bad stop watching her.

This doesn't sound right. Jess' mom's house is in ——— while the Gorillaz house is located at ————. Also, her house is more spacious than the one in the Gorillaz video and her mom is so private I highly doubt she would ever let a film crew come into her house to shoot a music video. What's more, the music video is from 2012 -- by comparing the staircase from the Gorillaz video with Jess' videos from 2012 you can tell it looks different.

Ahhh ok. Won't be becoming a private investigator anytime soon then!

im astonished that she hasnt done anything with her degree and masters or gone on to do something great. Back when I watched her at uni i always got the impression she would go on to do great things and be successful

Jess has mentioned before both her mum and stepdad are lawyers. They're partners at the firm too so I'd imagine they make 7 figures each.

And yeah! Her doing nothing is pretty much baffled all of us!

Actually there’s very good evidence that shows social media is quite harmful for people’s mental health (young girls/adolescents in particular) exactly because they are comparing themselves to an unattainable ideal or lifestyle. So it’s clearly not as simple as “choosing” not to compare yourself. That’s great if you’re able to distance yourself and use social media/follow influencers without being susceptible to the negative effects, but it’s very shortsighted to expect others to be able to do the same and quite patronising to be judgmental of people who do struggle with it.

Ive no doubt that social media is potentially very harmful if you are a vulnerable teenager or in a vulnerable place mentally.
I don’t understand why someone Jess’ age chooses to follow her & then gives out about her unattainable lifestyle because of how it makes them feel.

I’m so confused by this girl. I used to really like her content back when she was in uni in Edinburgh but had to unfollow recently because of the lack of consistency in posting, etc. I honestly don’t get how she justifies to herself disappearing for months on end never posting when this is supposed to be her full time job? Not to mention she had Zak quit his job as a chef to be her full time assistant/photographer?! What are they even doing with their time if she never produces any content? So bizarre, and as someone with a full time job I just don’t understand what she’s filling her time with.

Really interesting discussion. The thing about Jess in particular though, is that her money, privilege, and endless days of doing nothing largely don't come from working as an influencer; it all comes from her family's wealth. She doesn't need PR freebies and hardly does any sponsorships these days. Being able to afford a house and to travel around the world (pre-Covid), etc., are all because of her family. She's not selling us an 'influencer's lifestyle' since she didn't attain her lifestyle through being an influencer, and it's impossible to 'sell' family wealth; either you have it or you don't. She's just showing us how the upper-middle/upper class lives. There's nothing that suggests she would be doing anything much differently with her life if she weren't on Youtube, which is why she's a bit separate from many other influencers. It's also what drew me into her uni vlogs, because her Youtube was only a part of her student life that she would be living regardless of documenting it or not.

You're right. I should vlog about it, promise an upload date, piss and moan about editing the vlog on instastories, and then upload it two weeks late with zero explanation why. And somehow claim that it took two people working full time to pull off that feat.
