I agree, seems strange to just start that now out of nowhere. I feel like she wants to keep herself busy with something else than reading and relaxing..

The botany course sounds interesting tho, that seems more like something to educate yourself with on the side. I hope she finds something to help her feel motivated and energized again.

I agree! Blogging/influencing/youtube surely does take a lot of time and work, but I feel like she was always held to a higher standard by her viewers (and probably by herself) as a youtuber who actually studied, who is productive besides youtube, who does more than just mindless hauls etc. Her life was more than just "lifestyle" and that was what shone through in her videos. And now she doesn't really have that anymore and it shows that she's lost her spark a bit.

It seems like she just hasn't accepted yet that after uni she's just a regular youtuber. I feel like if she was 100% commited to being a full time influencer with regular content, like vlogs, fashion videos, book videos, maybe some videos about studying or traveling, her new house journey, or even a cooking video lol. She would have more structure and more energy, and people would absolutely still love her videos because she herself is giving it her all. But I feel she hasn't really accepted it yet and she's having a hard time transitioning.

As all her student followers have graduated and moved on to working full time it just became difficult to relate. Obviously you don't need to have the exact same life to relate so somebody, I actually work full time in retail now too and I don't need to see Jess work at Zara or anything to enjoy her content lol. But if we could see her working hard/being passionate about being an influencer that would help. If she'd make a lookbook with 10 outfits she likes to wear walking her dog or something I'm sure people would still be very inspired by it!

Have you guys seen her latest instagram pictures? As usual it might just be the angle and the wind blowing her shirt forward... but she looks sort of pregnant again. 🧐
I was a bit skeptical about the whole pregnancy because I don't see Jess as a mum... I don't even think she has talked about kids (at least not since I've been following her) but the insta pic is too obvious.

I preferred her'what I got for...' videos. I liked that fact that there were lots of nice high end items but they were not overly 'DESIGNER', unlike the majority of the big UK youtubers. Her mum has really good taste. It's a shame she stopped doing them.

So in Vlogtober Day 30, Lush gifted her a £225 massage and it left her feeling "weird and she thinks it "relaxed her too much". Wow, Lush... I really want to try this massage out now... NOT

I feel like she was hoping to get back to London before having to create any new content. Her explaining her lack of presence on social media was to combat 'oh you're guilty of breaking the rules because you've been refraining from posting' and her explaining the backlog of London content was the same, even though it was probably her intention to lead her following to believe she's still there.

I just felt like they were really odd caveats to mention in a video.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people interpreted her pumpkin as an announcement of sorts. A couple of weeks ago, the actress Jennifer Garner posted a photo of her pumpkin carving and it was a big pumpkin made to look like a house, with a smaller pumpkin inside- just like Jess'. Her comment section BLEW UP with people thinking it was a pregnancy announcement. She ended up coming out and saying that she was not pregnant since so many people thought she was.

I've thought she was pregnant ever since the book situation. I use the Goodreads app and it's next to impossible to mark a book as "Currently Reading" from your Kindle. When you start reading a book on Kindle, it automatically posts the update to your Goodreads account unless you specifically turn it off. Personally, I don't even pay attention to that feature and she probably doesn't either, which is why the slip up happened.

To be honest, if I was that rich I probably wouldn't do much either. Some people are just at their happiest at home reading and doing menial tasks. And if she does end up being a Mum in a few months, she'll have plenty to do. Who knows, maybe this is what she wanted all along, to be a mother? We really don't know that much about her and what her goals for life are.

hit the freaking nail on the head.

the reality is, most of us, most people in the world will never reach the level of wealth / financial security / assets that jess and these other youtubers have. it's sickening tbh, especially because it's sold to us as something that we should be able to do / afford with our regular jobs, or that this level of wealth and consumerism is something normal or even attainable. when in reality it's not.

Your feelings are 100% valid and you don't need to apologize or justify yourself for them. I think what you touched on is the reason many of us are even on these forums tbh. When you said: "There seems to be such a disparity of wealth between myself and the people I used to be able to relate to and it's chilling to realise that what I used to see as some lighthearted entertainment has become more about trying to sell me a lifestyle which seems so unattainable instead." -- this statement deadass sums it all up. I know how you feel. I started watching these Youtubers back when I was a teenager living at home with my parents -- I was seeking company and at the time it was just them talking to a webcam in their bedroom. They were relatable. Just girls around my age talking about things I could easily connect with. Now 10 years later, I'm an adult living in a foreign country paying for my own rent, bills, and a mountain of student debt, and it seems like they couldn't even begin to grasp any of the challenges I have to face on a daily basis. They no longer talk about or show anything I could possibly identify with. Our lives, struggles, and concerns could not be any more opposite. In a way, they're the embodiment of social injustice. They are working the least, yet earning the most. Getting maximum profits (insanely high paychecks, plus a neverending flow of gifts, plus all the time in the world) while the rest of us get nothing at all (low wages, zero freebies, 45+ hour weeks and no free time). How could they possibly be enjoyable to watch for people like us? Especially when the gap didn't seem as huge back when we started watching them--we literally watched as the gap between us and them grew bigger and bigger over the years. Why would I enjoy watching a girl whose parents are multi-millionaires as she sits in her West London house not doing any work for weeks in a row, when I come back to my tiny flat exhausted after a 10 hour work day and haven't taken a day off in months? Naturally it won't make me feel good. I don't think you're being bitter at all. I think people like Jess are just unconsciously highlighting how unfair this society is. Back in the day there were no PR gifts, no PR trips, no sponsored instagram posts, and most of them were posting videos alongside their day-to-day job or activities (such as uni). The dynamic is, unfortunately, completely different now. It's sickening really--there shouldn't be such insane disparities between people's wealth levels/lifestyles. You mentioned "Self-regulating" and it's also not as easy as it sounds right (it's the old influencer disclaimer: "if you dislike me or my content you can just click off!") ...we GREW UP watching these people and clearly our feelings were MUCH different at the beginning than they are now. When you have followed someone for years, feel like you've grown to know them pretty closely, have kind of developed a habit of watching them...it's not that easy to just click off and ignore what's happening right before your eyes. The familiarity is there. It's all the more sickening when you start realizing what this has turned into and the effect that it's now having on you. Unlike celebrities (whom people follow for escapism), influencers are people that were initially sold to us as "people just like us." They were sold to us as "relatable." It's not so easy to turn a blind eye now that they have become just like celebrities.

I just realised reading this - I meant to say that we can still agree that what Jess did IS wrong. Didn't mean to condone her actions there, her and her family still shouldn't have done it.
I said previously that I thought she was at the farm for sure, which I’m not shocked that she was BUT why go out of London when pregnant & her mum is having treatment?! Honestly is so stupid!

Honestly I'm baffled if she's pregnant. Their house is nowhere near ready so if she is I don't think it was planned. I feel a bit bad if she didn't think it would show on her goodreads though, I almost feel guilty gossiping about such a private topic if it was meant to be a secret. She reads a ton of diverse books so perhaps this was just curiosity, but her deleting it makes me think that it's truly happening.

It's funny because while watching her latest vlog I was wondering if Zack would soon propose to her or if they wanted to get married in the near future. They have been dating for quite a long time and somehow their relationship still feels new to me, probably because we never really see them together and they keep their relationship private.
I feeeeeel awful that we’ve talked about it now, especially with her mums illness too. If she is reading here, honestly I wish the best.

Sorry for beating a dead horse, but remember when she posted this photo with the caption "baby blue", which, as many of you commented, was unusual for her?

Well, I just noticed that the flowers around her resemble baby's breath. I'm no botanist, what do you guys think? Another clue from the queen of allusions?

At this point there have been so many comments that if she really wasn’t pregnant she would’ve just said so. Remaining silent whilst knowing people are speculating just confirms it

i also have a soft spot for her :') but i do wish she would do sort of an update q&a to tell the viewers about what's been going on and address some things. she's lost touch with her audience

She doesn't really seem to hang out with friends much these days. And I don't just mean since the pandemic/her mom -- I feel like it's been years since I've heard her mention any friends, let alone showed them. It kinda baffles me tbh -- she obviously used to be quite social back in the day. Does she not miss socializing? I remember her uni friends, Rachael and April -- she seemed really close to them. And before that her high school friends too, Becca, Gen, etc. She always used to have a lot of girlfriends around until a few years ago.

To be honest I don't really see the issue there. They traveled by car and probably haven't been around anyone else since her mom is sick. I would get it if other people were living at the farm or if family visited them there, but it's supposedly just them.
They can just as well be super spreaders taking the virus along while grocery shopping during their extended stay.

I wonder what her Edinburgh friends do now. I would find it super weird if my friend just sat around reading, and not taking up the countless opportunities available to them. Obvs not as simple as that now in a pandemic, and totally understandable to pause to care for her mum, I just mean over all the time since she graduated.
I've thought that too! All my friends have been working hard since graduation, and whilst I'm sure a lot of her friends were well off too I can't imagine that none of them have been working. It must be so weird to hang out with her and complain about work when she does nothing all day.

I agree with you completely about all those things. I think she’s lost and depressed, but she’s also gotten incredibly lazy after she finished her degrees. It just annoys me that some posts are downplaying her pregnancy because they aren’t happy that she’s not doing XYZ instead of motherhood. 😕
Motherhood is fantastic & she seems very happy. She doesnt have to be some career power woman but for her own sake I wish she’d do something that would give her a bit of a buzz. She has become quite lazy so I expect she may decide baby plus what she’s doing now is enough. But in ten years where will that leave her?!

I adore little kids, I want to tie mine down so they stop growing & never leave me! But I realise when they are older I’ll want me to have something for me & not be dependent on them & so will I. I’m no power woman btw! That bit is projection. Otherwise I feel Jess, who seems both lovely & intelligent has sunk into a rut & seems very unhappy.
