I looooved Jess and her channel when she was vlogging more about uni and her books etc but yeah now it's not only unrelatable for me how someon this age could afford this insane house, the work on the house and this lifestyle in general. I like that Jess has such a different style than all the other fashion bloggers and is in her educational background and style a very unique in this youtube bubble but as you said: I don't see a purpose anymore.

I would like her to not only do all of this superficial stuff with all the high-end purchases, extremely expensive interior and the travels but more of her talking about things as I think she's clever. Not only showing books and bags but using her degree or giving her opinion on politics or something idk

Again, I just don't think she has it in her to make it as an academic. It's a tough market, and some of my friends with PhDs who are the most driven people who have started businesses at uni and been president of loads of clubs and societies are turning away from academia because it's just too hard to make it. Jess never does anything but her academics-I can't imagine her speaking at conferences or doing much extra stuff alongside her PhD, which is what gets you the job at the end of it.

Idk, I used to love her videos, but in the past few years her terrible work-ethic and gloomy attitude have really put me off. She has also had a habit of making remarks that are so wildly unrelatable for normal people that it's like she's from another planet -- especially in her current vlogtober series.

Most egregious was her claiming vlogtober was significantly cutting into her reading time (she reads like 3 books a week), then turning around and saying she has so much work that she needed her BF to leave his career to assist her (since she "couldn't afford" an assistant -- even though buying £1,200 jumpers, designer boots, and designer handbags in multiple colors is perfectly do-able). Can't have that much work to do when she reads 3 books a week and half-asses a video as and when feel like churning one out/as or when her sponsors pay up. It's not like she has a consistent upload schedule.

How many women have felt ashamed of their c-section because of the negative attitudes around it, 'too posh to push' and the belief that it's an easier birth/ a bit of a cop out.

Oh yeah I absolutely agree with that - only the uninformed could think that was the case with a c section!!

As long as mother and baby are healthy that’s all that matters. Hopefully it does go smoothly for Jess. And then we can sit back and see how she deals with the little one interrupting all of her leisure reading time

What I’ve never understood with many YouTubers is why they set certain goals that they never meet. X amount of videos, book reviews, you name it.

Why not just casually upload an unscheduled review when you feel like it, without making all sorts of promises. Just; hey guys, I read this book and here’s what I thought of it.

Jess liked Fleurdeforce’s apology post about her trip to Dubai! There’s no way of knowing if she liked before Fleur changed her caption to said apology but it’s made me think... do you think the reason behind Jessie’s non-posting has a thing to do with travelling? Obviously she’s known for staying offline for weeks but she’s also known for travelling at the beginning of a global pandemic so That would explain the posting of old pictures and the no new videos for the past month — she’ll probably wait for her tan to lighten a bit before filming!

She definitely liked Fleur’s post before the apology, when I was looking at Fleur’s post when it was all just starting to kick off, Jess’ Instagram name was the one that showed as having liked it (as in ‘sunbeamsjess and X others liked this post’).

That’s not to say she hasn’t been breaking the rules, as we know she did at the start, but she definitely didn’t like Fleur’s post post-apology.

It really winds me up so much, like I would KILL for a gorgeous london townhouse and the funds to be able to do it up exactly the way I want, I would be so excited i'd be raring to go. Yet it seems she literally doesn't care, I don't think she fully understands her privilege, and the things that she takes for granted are out of reach for 95% of the population. She really doesn't know how lucky she is!!

I think the discussion about birth choices is really interesting. I support that if someone can afford to have a c section and chooses to then there is no shame in making that choice. I haven't given birth but it sounds absolutely horrific and terrifying so I can understand people wanting to control the experience however they can (within reason obvs as it can be massively unpredictable even if they do have a plan!). However I do totally agree that there is an unfair gap between private and public healthcare, and it isn't fair that some people don't have that choice or privilege.

But anyway, I'm going back to Jess. I wonder how much she will disclose about her pregnancy and birth. She did mention in her reveal video that she might do a Q&A or a video about it. I tend to stop watching influencers after they have a baby as their content becomes too motherhood/child focussed which isn't really for me, but she didn't sound like she was sure if she would even feature the baby much so we will see..

I was doing a bit of a Google deep dive the other day and supposedly Jess' mum's house was used for the Gorillaz DoYaThing music video. Do we know anything about this? Like does anyone remember a comment from ages ago in a vlog or something? It's pretty intriguing!

Her vlogs are just made up of nothing, I think we had two vlogs of the same car journey then a ten minute speech on how she’s going to swap her clothes around by season once they’ve had all the super expensive renovations done to the basement. Then saying things are going to ‘calm down over the next few weeks’ I’m sorry what things? All we see her doing is fit in PT sessions and talk about books.

At the end of the day. It’s her choice. I think it’s fair game to criticise the work she puts out to the world. But her own personal choices are her own. And what she does and doesn’t do with her life is her own issue to deal with. If she gets older and realises the mistakes she made. It’s her own. Unfortunately. It really appears that your own personal issues manifest in taking it out on her. But as long as she isn’t doing anything really wrong, there’s no point going this ham on her. I come from privledge in the wealth sense. But at the end of the day it’s my choice what I do. And to be critiqued on choices that does not negatively impact others is an over step. Anyway, you don’t seem to be someone who will look at both sides and seem very emotionally taken by her. So do what you will. Say what you will. I think it’s sad frankly.
And no I won’t take advice on you on political correctness given the way you speak about c-sections.Basically everyone has disagreed with you on this. Take the hint.

I think this is a bit harsh towards @Swipeupyouguys it doesn’t sound personal to me, it’s more that Jess represents (very publicly) those who have all the opportunities in the world available to them and decide not to take any of them.

Yes it is her choice not to take the opportunities available to her, and I appreciate that you have acknowledge your are privileged yourself - it might be that you haven’t been in a position of feeling real frustration because you can see people failing to take advantage of the position they were born in to, whilst you have to struggle and fight to get to where you want to be because the same doors aren’t automatically opened to you. And infact those same doors may never be opened to you because you weren’t born in to privilege. And then someone who could walk in to what you want, lounges around all day alternating between reading, napping, and complaining about how busy and tired she is. I think it’s obvious that would cause frustration and resentment in those with ambition.
