Anyone else get the impression that Zak does absolutely everything for her?

I'm not mad at the 'househusband' dynamic if that's what works for them, but it's an interesting career trajectory. Do we know what he studied at uni?

Also, I know Jess and her family are less traditional than some of the other affluent YouTubers, but I wonder if a proposal is imminent...

It's not as if she forced him though he could have said no. He seems to have quit a few things in the past (uni and other jobs) so not rly surprising. That being said tho, I do think it was a super stupid move, they def don't put out enough content to justify it being two people's full time jobs..
Oh yeah, I don't think he's some ultra-motivated entrepreneur or anything, I just wanted to point out that this "be full-time staff for Jess's family" thing wasn't his idea. To me it seemed like he quit uni but was way more passionate about being a chef. I think the reason she wanted him around full-time was way more emotional support than needing the extra labor (see previous depression posts....). She hardly puts out enough content to keep even one person busy, much less two.

I think that Jess just didn't really want a prestigious career, so maybe being a mother will end up being perfectly fit for her. Same for the PhD, she talked about it a few times but she never seemed that interested in doing one.

Do we think she will ever change her style? I'm so sick of the baggy crap that she wears. I'm guessing that horrible nose ring isn't coming out anytime soon either.

I used to watch her religiously, particularly when she was back in Edinburgh as we were both at uni at the same time and her videos inspired me to stay motivated, and I also kinda wanted her life but in a aspirational (one day that could be me) kind of way. Now even though she has all this money, watching her vlogs just suck the life out of me, she does nothing all day, yet moans how tired and drained and busy she is, when she's literally had a nap in the middle of they day and then read for about 3 hours WTF? She's just so completely unrelateable now, she's got this million pound townhouse, when most people her age can't even afford rent in the city, and her crazy purchases of £1000+ just makes me feel like shit. So I stopped watching her, I check in now and again, but feel like she's just being sucked into this vapid hole of nothingness.

I never really liked her style, although I still liked watching her videos because I enjoy her personality. I don't think you have to always dress in the most sexy way possible but she just ALWAYS looked swamped in massively oversized things, calling it "grungy". I never felt like she actually knew what she was aiming for with those outfits. Her speech, mannerisms, and general lifestyle are a demure wealthy woman, and then her tattoos, piercings, and clothes are completely contrasting with that in a way that to me always said "try-hard" more than "multi-faceted".
You've hit the nail on the head. I guess Jess wants to been as different from the usual very upper class. Maybe she wants to be seen as edgy and cool? It always confused me as her appearance always contradicted her lifestyle. Excessive tattoos especially are general not seen in her social circle. Stereotypically tattoos are seen on blue collar workers i.e. the working class.

But wouldn’t she just come out and say she isn’t pregnant?
Or would she keep up the speculations because her views and insta engagement did increased ?
I don’t know- I’d find it pretty embarrassing if people thought I was pregnant and it was just weight gain. If it was me I’d just want to delete comments relating to it and ignore the speculation rather than address it and have to talk about my weight in public.

She should think herself really lucky she’s in this privileged position. I’m not over the boyfriend packing in work to work with her? She’s obviously doing enough to support both of them? Seems strange to me?
It seems super weird! She must get a lot for the ads that she does, and probably had help buying the house from her parents. I'm curious to whether Zack contributed to buying the house or whether it's completely Jess', or even owned by her mum though I'm assuming it's Jess'.

I just find it so odd. He's v lucky to get to live her lifestyle, though maybe his family have money too. I wouldn't want to be that dependent on my partner - first living in her mum's house where Jess has her own floor of the house, then moving into this new house which is having major expensive renovations done, and now also being her employee? I know we don't see much of him but I get the impression that they seem happy (though I have nothing to base this on haha), but I think being in a relationship, living together and working together is a bit much.

Also giving up his chef training to work with her is crazyyyy. Especially when she said he was asked by the head chef to be his apprentice? Seems like a good opportunity if it's something hes serious about, though maybe he was tempted by the easy life working for Jess. Guess he will have a lot of downtime while she's napping and reading ..

She’d be better off doing a reading vlog, like the rest of the book tube community! It would mean she can still vlog but it’s less personal if that’s the problem

Catching up on all the comments brings me back to the GG thread during her 2019 vlogtober. It strikes me that nothing in her life has improved since then. In last year's vlogtober, she was constantly complaining of tiredness, constantly having "off"/unproductive days, and did nothing but read and go to the gym. There was even speculation about the possibility of depression similar to the comment above me.

It's hard to say since she shares so little of herself these days, but I'm personally on the fence as to whether she has something like clinical depression. Things like her low energy, low motivation, etc. can easily be because of things like low iron/nutrient deficiency from how poor her diet seems to be. And just the fact that her life is purposeless and unfulfilling can explain her apathetic moods.

I think like others have said, 'laziness' is just part of her personality. In Q&As from years ago she'd always say there are 'so many things' that she wants to do with her future, but in really abstract and impractical terms. She probably likes the idea of doing things, but isn't willing to put the real work in to take action. I'm also shocked that her parents tolerate letting their adult daughter hang around the house all day doing nothing.

I love her book videos! She has such a varied taste and I usually agree with her reviews.
I feel her reviews aren’t really her reviews anymore though.
She’s changed from her uni days when you could tell she was actually engrossed in what she was reading,
right now I feel like (the majority of the time) she’s parroting someone else’s review 😐 and passing it as her own to seem woke.

Yeah why did we need two vlogs worth of a wardrobe clear out? Has too many clothes for a normal person she could donate some to charity instead of ‘archiving’ it

Her clothes are all so oversized anyway that if she is pregnant she can probably hide it from us until she gives birth

I haven't watched her in years...I love her style and think she's super pretty, but I just don't see the point in her channel much anymore. I think she's just kind of continuing Youtube for the sake of it. (Which I think a lot of Youtubers from that era who maybe peaked around 2012/13 are doing).

I'm surprised to see that she got a full sleeve tattoo. I thought she'd just stick the eye and roses.

Also I feel bad for her dad's partner, imagine having your husband's adult child and her boyfriend just turn up and stay for weeks on end.

Has Jess always been this giggly in videos? I'm getting a bit tired of the forced laughter after every sentence, but then again it's kinda cute; like someone's told her to be more charismatic and she doesn't know how to.
Noticed this too! her mannerisms seem really different. Like she puts on a weird voice randomly for a couple of words and does a weird a scrunch up of her face idk how to describe haha. Don't mean this in a nasty way it's just something I've noticed more in her videos that she didn't used to do. She seemed much more natural on camera in her uni days.

I agree how problematic out dated opinions on gender roles are..... I also think it's fair to question why someone's partner is on the bank roll of a family member. That's not normal. Getting back to chauffer around your partner's mum, run errands, cook for relatives, etc. is quite strange no? It doesn't matter whether that person is the father or mother. Relying so much on your parnter for your income is scary.
I definitely agree with this. imo any financial dependency regardless of gender has the potential to run into issues. Like I said, I don’t want to dismiss any and all criticisms of their situation.

I didn’t want to call anyone out specifically, but just to clarify what I meant by my issue with the gender stuff,

However, I don't understand why she wants to have a kid with a man who works for her and relies on her financially? And it's just a small amount of work at that. Doesn't seem a good dynamic for a relationship.
People don’t tend to question why a man would want to marry a woman who works for him (ex. the stereotypical boss/assistant or doctor/nurse type pairings) and/or relies on him financially (stay at home mothers), but suddenly it’s an active problem when the genders are reversed.

There are many other reasons why women would choose to have a child with a man other than how much money they make. i.e. maybe Zak is very emotionally supportive, and Jess values that over someone who is financially and professionally ambitious.
