I hate to speculate on someone's weight, and if they are pregnant or not...

I enjoy her take on books and I take her suggestions on what to read. Compared to other "book tubers" she has a much for thoughtful and thought out explanation of books, the writing style, the plot etc. She doesnt just read all YA and fantasy (which is not my thing) she is one of the the only book tubers who seems to have an actual brain.

I think its a bit of a shame that for someone so smart and accomplished with her education she isn't or has not done more. I see her working reviewing literature for a major publication with YouTube as a side hustle. But its her life to live, I am a few years older than Jess and I can relate to the over all feeling of "Oh so this is life then? Alright..."

She just has more money and resources to make more out of it. Same thing for Zak. Don't know much about him but from what she shows he seems to be just as lazy and unmotivated as she does. Maybe he is back to studying to be a chef? I don't know but those two are odd.

Both of their apparent lack of motivation is why I am so unsure about her actually being pregnant. Instead shes still buying insanely over priced jackets or "shackets" as she called it. I think the last one was over 1k in US dollars.

This. I wanted to check out her book recommendations but didn’t even get to that point because her blatant lying (so obvious from her body language), was so off putting. Regardless of what tier we were in, this was no “essential travel”. She has a perfectly nice home in London where she could have spent Xmas. The rest of us managed it

Jess doesn't seem to want to follow the upper middle class route. She appears to want to appear edgy and cool. The multiple piercings and excessive (and ghastly sorry) tattoos. That doesn't scream upper middle class. I was surprised that she's having a baby. I would have thought she would go down the traditional route, but she doesn't seem to be doing much with her life. She's not career driven or anything. Having a baby is giving her something to do.

She doesn’t appear driven by anything. She’s procrastinated on everything including her new house. The baby appears to have given her purpose.

My issue with book tube is that most booktubers read fantasy and tend to read the same books/ series. Jess is really unique in that she reads a variety of genres and can actually explain what the hell she actually read.

I agree, I really don't like reading fantasy or Sci-Fi so find it difficult to find good booktubers (and I find a lot of them also just read young adult fiction which isn't my thing). I like Noelle Gallagher - I'm not sure if she's been mentioned before but she's not that similar to Jess but the books she reads are quite diverse, she's a grad student (i think doing English literature too) and the same age as Jess too.

If they are all one household and just driving straight there to be in the farm and not mixing with anyone then would that not be allowed?

I'm sure they will be being careful as her mum has been shielding because of chemo - I would hope they will be anyway!

The rule is still not to travel unnecessarily, simply to avoid people applying their own reasoning and justifications.

They have a nice big house and they are already all together for Christmas. If there’s one family that doesn’t need to travel, it’s this family.

I've been reading this thread for a while and I've agreed with so many things that have been said so I had to make an account to be able to contribute.

Jess could so easily make sit down videos like she used to years ago – makeup looks, Q&A's, ANYTHING but the fact that she sticks with content that's not inspiring for her (which in return doesn't give her the views or positive feedback, no doubt uninspiring her even more) or enjoyable for her viewers to watch just confirms that it may be time for her to take a break to think about where she wants her social platforms to go.

It's such a pity that she seems to be really unwell mentally, and I do feel for her and her difficult family situation, but maybe it would do her some good to take some time off and then maybe come back to youtube etc when she's ready to produce content again. I doubt she needs the money so desperately knowing her background.

I'm currently studying in Edinburgh and still go back to watch her old vlogtobers for the cosy vibes. I used to want to be her when I was younger, such a shame she seems so unhappy with her life at the moment.

I don't think she needs the money but I think it's a motivator. Prior to her vlogtober videos every single video had been an ad. Vlogtober has finished and the next video she uploads is also an ad.

Although everyone on here guessed it and I agreed, I'm still quite surprised. I just never thought she'd be someone to have kids before 30 for some reason, I struggle to see her as a mum. Having watched the video, she does seem happy and I'm very glad for them, especially her mum for getting better. Her mum had her young and still managed to have a great career so it wouldn't surprise me if Jess went for a PhD in the future and stuff.

Is anyone else selfishly sad that she won’t be posting or reading as much as normal probably for a long long time? So happy she is having a baby don’t get me wrong, but her book videos make me so happy and she is one of the only people who reads books I like (especially now with this wave of YA fantasy all over social media).

Any recc’s for anyone who makes similar videos with similar types of book are appreciated!

I feel like if you have the financial means to just spend your life studying, and that's what you want to do then why not? There's nothing inherently wrong with her thinking about going back to uni and to be honest in the video she did say it'd never happen so it sounds to me like bit of a daydream and she knows it. I have to admit that I always thought she might end up working in academia. Like I can see her doing a postdoc after her PhD or something.

The only reason I find her more tolerable is because she has no hustle, she doesn’t need to climb to the top, she doesn’t need to force affiliates and spons on people, if she started doing ASOS, PLT, Zara hauls and brand work she’s be no different to them, and I view her in the same way.

If she wasn’t in such a privileged position she would need to take that work but she’s lucky that she doesn’t need it.

But she does force affiliates and spons. She only posts instagrams or videos if she has an ad or something to promote. All her vlogs seem to have a little AD segment that isn't mentioned in the title. For years she's been doing dedicated UO and Topshop lookbooks etc. Back then I actually quite enjoyed them because she did put the effort in to make nice lookbooks (plus they were brands she already loved). Alongside them she had her regular vlogs and other content so it was alright. But now every video is a bare minerals and it's just the same look over and over again. And she isn't gonna do a lookbook unless the clothes are gifted.

Obviously she has to earn a living but I don't see her videos as anything more than a cash grab. I guess she's low energy and never in your face so it doesn't come across like she's trying to climb to the top but everything's for money.

I only still watch because she used to be my favourite yter and I always hope to see a little glimpse of the old her.

I have a theory about her pets. Could it be that, because of her mom's illness, they had to move their pets to some of her relatives or something, in order to prevent potential zoonotic infections?

When my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, we were instructed to keep the animals away from her flat by her doctors.

When you read on a kindle it automatically syncs to goodreads to show what you are reading, unless you tell it not to. Maybe she didn’t realise! If she is pregnant I can’t imagine her being really open about it on social media.
