Maybe she’s just never wanted a big career? There’s no problem with a woman wanting to get an education to then become a mother and work part time. She’s clearly earning enough money to be given a mortgage on a massive house, so why would she give up YouTube to earn significantly less working more? She seems really happy to be having a baby, so I’m happy for her and good luck to her.

I must say, I enjoyed watching Jess back in the day, but I never saw her as an academic. She's smart, but as someone who spent a long time in academia (and in Edinburgh), she has nothing on the academics I've worked alongside. And this sounds arrogant, but I see myself as more intelligent and academic than Jess, but I know I don't have what it takes to do a PhD, and after working with PhD students, I honestly don't think I'd want to.

I've seen brilliant, hell, geniuses, drop out of their PhD programmes, especially in the literature department, and no matter how much support I gave them in my job there, I couldn't get them over those hurdles. It takes a lot out of you and it requires a lot of determination and self-motivation. Then again, I've also seen pretty dumb-ass, not so intellectual people achieve their PhDs because they didn't really care and didn't cave in to the pressures. It's a world of extremes, but it takes a lot of passion and enthusiasm.

All of us who studied Masters love studying and miss it, but most of us have to accept that, from seeing ourselves against the true academics, that we weren't built for the pipe dream of working on a PhD. I saw a lot when working at a university, and I learned from that experience what real academics were - I was kidding myself if I thought I was that standard, and I'm afraid I kind of think Jess is as well, which is probably why she's looking into starting again at a lower level in a new degree field.

The night nanny and the day nanny will be taking care of all of that for her. She won't do a moments hard work with that child, i bet she even has a c section booked in at the portland. If she pushes that crotch goblin out in an nhs ward with just a junior doctor there wielding the forceps I'd be shocked.

I still think 'they' need a job, how can her mother not be embarrassed by their lack of effort and drive. Two able bodied adults, one with the best education money could buy sleeping in and making the odd video with commemts she lifted off goodreads. She might not 'need' to work, but she should want to give back somehow. Reading for kids - something!!

Yes, my work doesn’t allow me not to get my to-do list done. Especially now that we’ve been working from home since March, it’s pretty much business as usual here. Same deadlines and continuing projects and assignments. In the beginning there was a bit of a tendency to postpone things for “when we get back in the office”, but soon management realised that this cannot go on like that. So no excuses. Work goes on.

Same here... Unpopular opinion but I love seeing how the other half lives, and I liked Jess because she's not new money. Lots of Youtubers are loaded now and just buy tacky designer shit for the sake of it. Jess had a lot of really expensive stuff but they were more classic pieces and it's something that's just normal for her. I know posting on Youtube is "showing off" but when she shows her stuff it's not in the same bad taste as some tacky ass person like Jaclyn Hill showing how much money they've made with their trashy purchases... It's just more natural with Jess, sucks she got so much hate I loved those videos it was the reason I subbed.

I still remember some beautiful statement earrings her mum got her from Liberty, a Jennifer Behr head piece, the gold suit from the Kooples, that gold margiela ring and the neon yellow PS1. Just
Her mum could literally sell me anything, I bought myself a gold Kartell lamp because of her.

They've done that classic influencer move where they start to rip it out and THEN take lots of pics/vlog it. Just to make the transformation more dramatic. Cause when it was listed it didn't actually look that bad- dated yes, but not a total wreck. It needs work, but it wasn't uninhabitable. In fact there were people living in it when it was listed.

I know people's circumstances change, but it's pretty grim that they've bought a house that was being lived in, and have left it empty for 18 months in a city with a huge shortage of housing- at any price level. I feel differently when people buy houses that are a wreck, have been sat on the market for ages, are not mortgageable and are unattainable to most buyers because even if it takes a while to do it up and get it back on the market, it was empty anyway and so not exactly going to waste . But this was actually a liveable house and they've taken it off the market and left it empty when someone else could have been living in it. At £1million it's certainly not affordable, but there could easily be people sat nearer the bottom of the housing market with the money and waiting to move in to a property like this, but they can't because someone like Jess bought it to leave it empty!

Again, I know people's situations change and they probably wanted to move in sooner but it's a massive waste of a perfectly habitable five bedroom house!!!

Also I find it so telling that people were living in the house prior to it being sold and when Jess gave us the initial tour she seemed so disgusted by everything. She is the poster child of privilege. I despise the fake wokeness she performs on social media

It’s still so bizarre to me, but good for her if it’s what she wants. She’d rarely if ever talk about having kids as a high priority for her future and always seemed much more driven career-wise, but you guys are probably right in guessing her mother’s illness might have changed her views...

to be fair in the video she doesn't give the impression that the pregnancy was planned. quite the opposite really. although she does say that considering the shit year with her mum's illness and covid the pregnancy gave her some way of looking into the future; some sort of purpose

Completely agree with you! I believe her house was around £1 million? I get the feeling her family would be able to afford this flat out. I don’t seem to remember her talking about a mortgage ever either, or applying for one with Zak.

Out of curiosity, would people be questioning what Zak was doing if the genders were reversed? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone complain about or question a stay at home mum, but always see stay at home fathers, or even just men who work for their partner be questioned. At least he keeps out of her channel, I hate when youtubers boyfriends/husbands decide it’s going to be a shared channel when it’s something she’s worked on for years before alone.

Not sure when he quit his job, but perhaps when she found out she was pregnant they both decided to split the load of parenting and work and that’s why he now works for her?

Tbh I would probably question it even more... a girl just giving up her job, moving in with her bf, and on his payroll in his house and therefore under his control.

They SAHM analogy doesn’t really fit, Zak was doing this well before the pregnancy. I have no idea why people are talking about househusbands or stay at home moms, lmao, this is an early 20 something boyfriend and girlfriend who laze around her moms house all day.

In fact, I think people are more lenient on men because there’s this idea ‘he must be doing SOMETHING’ whereas with a young woman they’d call her a lazy goldigger.
