On Day 3 some nice bits of London so far. I’ve skipped quite a lot of the baby stuff.

On the subject of childcare. There are as far as I can tell a minority quite possibly small minority of people who judge people for using childcare. I’m certainly not one of them. I know a stay-at-home mother who has childcare, if you can afford it why not. My issue is Jess, while acknowledging they don’t have to commute & can work flexibly, doesn’t explain the sheer lack of output. What work are they actually doing that requires childcare? The output doesn’t suggest that they couldn’t easily juggle one child between them.

Did she really say in the latest vlog that she 'probably won't be able to get much done' on one of the days as they have brunch and then she has book club... like?... seriously?

I was a bit surprised to see how happy she was to be back at her mom's house. I thought surely her and Zak would prefer being on their own with the baby in the flat (at it seemed like a pretty big and luxurious flat). Maybe she likes being at her mom's house so much because more people can look after the baby while she's napping or reading in bed? It made me wonder if she's mentally ready to move into their own house.

I genuinely love her but for the past few years she comes across as incredibly lazy. It seems like the only thing she cares about and can concentrate on is reading.

I really like her too. She’s lovely.

Baby may have been a happy accident who knows but I don’t really understand why she bought the house when she seems so happy at her mum’s. It might explain all the delays in fact I’d wager it’s at least a part of it, she seems to have no drive to move to the house. Her mum’s cancer may have felt quite destabilising.

She seems lazy but she could also just be crippled by anxiety or stuck in a loop where she feels bad about not being productive & gets sucked into thinking about that rather than being productive. It feels familiar to me.

It is great that she feels very cosy at her mother's house and couldn't wait to go back. I mean, she has a great support system there and it is probably the space where she feels the safest.

After all this is where she grew up, had a successful channel, lived with her boyfriend, etc

I am really looking forward to see how she will adjust in her own home. In my mind she will be like Amelia Liana who is pretending to live by herself while going to her parents' house every damn day because she can't stay with herself alone. It might also explain why they delayed the house work for years.

Most people would have worked on the house quickly to get out and have their own space. But Zak and her are constantly finding an excuse to either not work on the house or not work on anything at all. This might also be an indicator of life stagnation which can cause mental health issues such as depression.

I can get why she is no rush at her mum's house, I don't understand why Zak is ok with it, even though it's a big house doesn't he want their own space as a family?? Also random thought, but you'd have to be mindful of others when you're having sex or just want to walk around naked etc etc

they have a whole floor to themselves up in the attic at her mums afaik

The girl just needs to spend time with her friends, I understand that as an introvert socialising can be difficult for you, but you can’t spend all your time just with your boyfriend and your family (even considering difficult times).
It’s weird she doesn’t do anything really anymore.

I'm sorry but the idea of Jess setting up a patreon is so ridiculous - she keeps saying she wants it to create a community but she doesn't even interact with her subscribers and hasn't done so in years. How greedy!!

I came here after watching this vlog and it baffled me! She is rich, only works when she wants to and everything is an ad. Besides, her vlogs are just boring, she does a little bit of vlogging outside just to get it out of the way then spends 20 minutes talking to the camera. She didn't even show around the flat or the office at her mum's house. What is she gonna charge for? She doesn't even acknowledge her subscribers lol

Really loved the shots of Columbia Road etc. Actually felt like a bit of a vlog!

... Until she started talking about a Patreon. There seems to be a trend of influencers who don't post very much nor very consistently starting Patreons or those "buy me a coffee" things. She said that she wants to give people a safe space to have conversations, but I'm not sure why that should be hidden behind a paywall (not to mention, I've never seen any dubious comments on her Insta or Youtube - unless she's very good at deleting them). It only ever becomes an echo chamber, when those conversations should be productive and open. Not that I really understand what she actually plans on doing with this Patreon. Book discussions, maybe? Hardly controversial.

Having conversations with influencers shouldn't be hidden behind a paywall, either. It comes across as though she (and other influencers) will only deign to talk to their adoring public if they pay for the privilege.

Who is she trying to fool with that ridiculous speech? Actions speak louder than words Jess. She doesn't give a flying f*ck about her community, as demonstrated by her lack of engagement with her audience, not doing a single giveaway in years, and general disinterest in YouTube when the monetization isn't optimal (aka every month apart from December).

The thought of the laziest and most privileged booktuber I know setting up a Patreon made me legit nauseous.

I think it's funny how she wants to create a community but do it through patreon when she's not even consistent in posting anywhere on social media. I wonder if she thinks this will get her to be more active when it's like it most likely won't. I also wonder if she realizes patreon is basically content creators giving those who support them bonus stuff/creations to keep people supporting them and interested in them. Patreon isn't like youtube or insta or blogs where you can just post duck all whenever, it's more about being consistent because people are paying you money monthly for whatever bonus perks they'll get that. I am supporting two different content creators on patreon and I will say they are very worth it because I donate 2$ a month and they're always churning out extras, I get an email at least once a week or even every few days about new extra content. If she wants to make a patreon to create a community that's laughable because she actually has to interact with her subscribers and foster more of a relationship other than just talking to a screen. Also you have to be consistent with patreon because I am not going to give you money if your posting content is every 6 months, that money could go to another creator who's actually giving me content. I just don't see it working out for her at all. She'll post a little bit more content for a month (if anyone who does subscribe/support her patreon is lucky) only to then post nothing after that to which then anyone supporting her on patreon will leave because of that only for her to then try to comeback with more content and the cycle will repeat itself like it always does. She's better off creating a discord that way she can get to know her subscribers and create the community she wants, and she can have mods who will help with the community and that way if she's not seen for months no one will care because on discord you rly aren't paying to see or interact with her versus patreon.

I haven't watched all of the new vlogs (I don't think I will tbh), but from what I've seen so far I get a vibe that Jess is low in spirits.

I don't think there will be a full month of vlogmas. I predict a few missed days, followed by a video where she explains that she's stressed or overwhelmed and then she'll go ghost on YouTube for a while.

My coment is the only one that's not supportive of the patreon on her vlog and it's highlighted. Let's see what happens first: someone attack me or my comment be deleted lol
and yes, typo on interact 🥲

I feel like I am missing something. Are people attacking Jess in her comment section?

Because in the last vlog she kept saying that she wanted to launch a Patreon because it is a safer space compared to YouTube's comments.

This whole Patreon idea could be the downfall if not the the end of her channel. Her channel is literally hanging by a single thread made of OG viewers. She has no new sponsors and when she has some they are disconnected from her actual brand.

If she creates a Patreon and don't post exclusive and very good content people will destroy her online. There is no way in hell that she can create a Patreon and not post consistently. When people pay for something they expect a return on their investment.

All the Patreon that I have post minimum once a week. Their content are very personal, creative and they do not sit on their beds talking to the camera for more than 5 minutes. She will have to go out in London, film very detailed book reviews, talk about her personal life, etc Which is the complete opposite of her channel.

She is going to make 3 videos on Patreon then will use another ridiculous excuse and disappear. If people criticise her in the comments section she will disappear for good.

Last time I checked, people on her comment section were nothing but nice. Same with her Insta comments. I think she will feel safer to expose herself to a niche group and also make a few more bucks. Personally, I think she needs new management who will be sincere and made her work for her money, even if it means her getting a nanny to produce + edit the content.

She needs to go to a social media consultant or something soon absolute jokes that she’s going to alienate her audience even more this way when we already consume soooo many of her ads that aren’t relevant to most of us under the guise of supporting her , it’s becoming so clear she doesn’t care anymore past the point of making money , I’ve watched her for almost 8 years and this could be the final straw for me

I don’t think the motivation for a patreon is to create a safer space with the community she doesn’t interact with but is usually kind to her, she just wants money as a reward for her job so the way she explained that didn’t convince me at all.
Anyway she’d need a social media marketing expert for sure because she’s not ready to handle the constant commitment which means a consistent investment made by her as well.

The people who are successful on Patreon/have happy patrons are the ones who were already prolific content creators and just have even MORE that they're excited to share with those paying subscribers. Jess isn't that type of person, and if she even sticks with it very long at all, it'll be subpar, uninspired content that people will quickly get tired of paying for.
