Is it over now? Looks amazing outside for me, blue sky's, no wind, I actually slept OK, got woken at 2am when I think it was at its worst then fell back over prob just after half 2 so I didn't hear it again, doesn't look to be any damage here either, got a couple of next doors decorations in the garden an some empty plant pots but sadly no trampoline lol

when my bedroom curtains were blowing out into my room during the night I was expecting to see her or Cathy. Not a bit of wonder people thought ghosts made the noise wooooohhhhoooo. The noise was terrifying Monga, I'll never get used to it.

Do you live somewhere that has not experienced high winds in the last 24 hours. Or do you not notice changes around you?
I do agree that it is often windy in the winter , and there always seems to be a weather warning but the winds in Northumberland were extreme. Normally my weather app would say high winds are gusts of up to about 40 km . The air last night was moving constantly and speeds that are normal for gusts. The gusts were so strong and the wind seemed to be coming from all directions. The amount of destruction and damage is far from normal.
There were wind speeds recorded in Northumberland of over 90 and 70 miles per hour. That far exceeds seasonal expectations. On the weather apps I use , the measure the wind speed in kilometres which is a smaller measure.

I’m in Cheshire we had a caravan blow into someone’s garden. I work nights and driving home I was avoiding bins and one garden had some road barriers blown into it.
To be fair the red weather warning was pretty specific to the parts of the uk that were most affected by the storm. There hasn’t been a red weather warning for 5 years and I think the storm yesterday justified it when you see the damage and that two people have been killed. I also saw a story about a puppy being killed after an animal shelter was hit. There’s bound to be injured and killed livestock elsewhere along with the damage to roads, railways, houses, cars, crops etc. It’s pretty extensive so and I don’t think it can be called ‘seasonal’ weather. If weather warnings weren’t issued then people would be less aware of what was to hit. And people being prepared is a good thing to protect homes and animals. If no warnings were issued because it’s just usual ‘seasonal’ weather then more people might have lost their lives yesterday by making unnecessary journeys etc.
I think the agencies that issue weather warnings are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. But personally I think it’s better they do as the public might listen and prepare.
To me seasonal would be anything up to around 30/40mph as that seems to be pretty frequent for where I live every year, anything up to 70mph would be a occasional small storm an anything above would be a storm since having that is every few weeks, I think if its going be over 40mph it should be worth mentioned on news just so people can prepare to tie things down or take precautions but anything under shouldn't, I know some channels like to go a bit over board when the winds only going be like 30mph but again I think it's because of what happened when that guy said there wasn't going be a storm an one did hit so I guess better safe than sorry
What I don't understand is the need to name them, until a few years ago they were just called storms or gusts, we definitely don't get anything like America so I see why they are named in America to keep records, yes we get some roofs down an trees an sadly some tragically die but having been in America in New Jersey when Sandy hit we are no where near that level of storm, that was like a bulldozer when it hit

It’s still windy here but nothing like last night.
Power was on and off all night which was a pain in the a. I live in a smart house and our back up generator hasn’t been connected up yet … I feel that job is now my priority

Our town was supposed to switch on the Christmas Lights today and have had to cancel it because there are very few lights to turn on. 
Darn I've always loved the name Arwen ever since I heard it in the Lord of the rings movies.Jeez, just looked at the forecast for today and winds over 50mph expected until 16:00! I don’t know who this Arwen bint is but she sure as hell has a temper

It's getting super windy now. When I went out earlier it was raining and I saw a outdoor sign for Leon's be blown off out of the frame and the waves of the beach were much bigger.
I'm in the North of England. Had no power since 9am. We've been told by text by Northern Powergrid not to expect it back until 4.30am tomorrow morning. Typical I'd done a big shop a few days ago so I've got two fridge freezers worth of stuff happily defrosting 
Neighbouring town saw a high of over 100mph winds - I'd call that extreme!
