The only reason they’re not actually harassing people is because they’ve been stopped from doing so.
If prayer is their only objective why don’t they duck off and do it somewhere else?
You could equally say any protesters who weren't planning to cause mayhem at the riots could have not been there.

That’s exactly why the county’s in this mess .Starmers got five yrs to dig a bigger hole for himself by trying to shut down public opinion people will be driven to the parties that want to give them a voice.
The country's in a mess from not calling out the likes of Farage and allowing their "concerns" to be given such a huge media platform. It's the biggest trick in the political playbook - blame everything on the foreigners. And sadly, it works time and time again.

No ! There were some far right agitators in attendance but on the whole just ordinary people that thought they were doing the right thing by taking their grievances to the streets as the gov have put them on ignore.
---

Not everyone was rioting? There were elected representatives there calling for people to have their throats cut and people cheered by that token we should assume they all agreed with him 🙄
Ah, the old grievances balls again.

I only saw one elected representative calling for people to have their throats cut. He's a fool and the people cheering him are wicks.

I saw more than one rioter in various bits of footage.

Imagine being so fecked in the head that you think the best way of expressing your "concerns" is to start a fire at a hotel housing asylum seekers.

Some of those rioters were literally pushing and shoving not setting fire to anything from the footage on the news there were only about three that actually set fire to the hotel it was mostly minor disturbances.

You could also say that planned protests have not been permitted to pass by sensitive buildings or through areas or communities where they could be provocative.

A judge has said one of the arson guys could get a life sentence.

On another note the Channel3News guy has been arrested in Pakistan.

TBF there were of course the main riots, then counter protesters (some who became violent), then other groups of protesters thinking they could then become vigilantes (some who became violent, some attacking those with a different skin colour), kind of proving the point that violence begets violence and riots begets riots.
Members of each group of the above have now been convicted and imprisoned, I’m sure they’ll all have different explanations of why they ended up in the big hoose with many doors.
If things don’t change it will just simmer, then explode again.
My thoughts exactly, the government may have turned the heat under the pot down a few notches, but that pot is still simmering and is capable of boiling over again.

Exactly. That how the Nazi party came to power in 1930s Germany.

What are "Muslim public prayers"?
The massive gathering in the public park near me for Eid al-Adha back in June. 100s of people, loads of very loud speakers set up so I had to hear it whether I wanted to or not, and it went on for hours, starting very early on a Sunday morning.
---
This isn't normal practice though? Generally Muslims pray in private.
Tell that to the many hundreds of them who gathered in my local park back in June to celebrate and pray about sacrificing an animal.

You, again, assume a lot.
Obviously I do know some of these checks exist.
Like having a passport for example, but then again many people come here without one of those.
I know there’s always exceptions to every rule so applying something to all, as I general principle, will not happen. I just don’t feel the need to constantly spell it out.
You may be interested to hear that Yvette Cooper has announced changes to the immigration system, including increasing the number of deportation flights and re-opening 2 immigration removals centres (300 beds combined capacity), one in Portsmouth.
It’s not my job to come up with policies and solutions. That’s the job of the elected government and the lawyers they consult.
I’m just giving my opinion on, you know, a gossip site, so your self proclaimed policy document standards of answers do not have to be met on, you know, a gossip site.
So you want a system that includes ...

Criminal record, intelligence regarding potential extremist activities, identification documents regarding country of origin. Assessing veracity of asylum claim.
Biometric identification processing.
Obviously cooperation between countries would be required, and money exchange too, no doubt.
... but you accept that "there’s always exceptions to every rule so applying something to all, as I general principle, will not happen".

That's great, we are in full agreement and, I think, pretty much where the system is now.

Yeah but he was a minority, the bulk of people at the protest were only observing they weren’t engaging in physical contact.

The system is stuck in a log jam as processing is incredibly slow. Even when processed and asylum isn’t granted, deportations are not happening quickly, or people disappear into the hidden economy.
Perhaps the proposed £60,000 fines for hiring illegals will help.
Then these’s those undesirable criminals who come from ‘unsafe’ countries.
Oh, and still they come in boats and lorries, often undocumented.
No, the system is not working.
Criminals are probably making more money smuggling people than drugs these days, but you think that’s fine.
Nope, once again you’re evaluating narrowly, and misinterpreting.
ETA: more returns agreements would help.

The irony of people saying that there will be more riots if the government doesn't listen to 'concerns' is that it's transparently obvious that both major parties are listening.

Nobody could argue that the previous Tory government ignored immigration and asylum as an issue. In fact it assumed an increasingly major part of their strategy to attract or retain support against the rise of more extreme parties such as Reform. They were just really bad at it. They apparently didn't foresee the impact of Brexit on non-EU immigration or despite numerous attempts, introduce an effective 'points based' immigration system. On asylum they arguable made a difficult problem far worse and their 'solutions' were hopeless and unworkable.

And it's clear that Labour has 'listened' too because their pre-election policies and post election announcements could easily be described as 'more of the same' largely offering different solutions but seeking to achieve the same aims. This has not gone down well with all Labour voters.

It could of course be argued that what people with 'concerns' really want is not "to be listened to" but to see actual results. However if the people predicting more riots think that any government is going to heed the demands for more extreme measures that are promoted by right-wing agitators and often seen on social media, they are almost certain to be disappointed.

But won’t a right wing gov implement more extreme measures to bring the country in line with their policies? That might dampen down one side by fire up another…Starmers done Nigels work for him.

We're where we are because of the Tories embracing far right narratives. Some people on here are purposely ignoring that shift which we've seen from that party, particularly since Theresa May's "citizen of nowhere" speech. After all, who'd vote for Farage when they pretty much occupy the same space has been their "thinking" - which was always going to be a dangerous tactic long term, as we have seen. Not that they care, of course.

And hey, guess what. Some people also just like to riot. Whatever is the "cause" of the person taking part in the riots, rioting is tiring. It doesn't last for long, as we've seen. So anyone on here looking forward to it kicking off again this summer in a major way, it won't happen.

I agree processing is incredibly slow. I guess it will always be a trade off between speed and thoroughness but it didn't help when the previous government down-graded and reduced the number of assessors and then stopped assessment of people arriving after a certain date on the grounds that they were "illegal". That can be remedied and I think the new government has said that they will speed up the assessment process.

Also agree that those that are refused asylum need to be removed from the country as soon as possible. I think the previous government was more focused on stopping people applying for asylum rather than dealing with applications (both successful and failed). The new government says they will increase deportations and I don't have a problem with that where it can be done within the law. More returns agreements would definitely help.

Some of the people claiming asylum will have committed criminal offences in other countries. However as I understand it if the applicant lies about this in their interview, there is currently little the government can do to check for previous criminal records. Apart from rejecting all applications 'just in case' I really don't know what can be done about this.

Whatever system is in place, e.g even if we allowed applications to be made from abroad, some people will still arrive in the UK to claim asylum. Many will, as now, arrive by a visa route and then claim asylum but some will come by boat or lorry. Some will be undocumented for good reason and some for bad e.g. to frustrate possible deportation. Again unless we automatically accept or reject all applications of people that arrive by these routes or who are undocumented there is going to have to be some sort of assessment and decision process. I think that is what we have now.

I don't know where you get the idea that I think it's 'fine' that "criminals are probably making more money smuggling people than drugs these days". I like the new government's idea of doing more to pursue the gangs although as ever it will be the results that count.

Sectarian politics have entered Westminster it’s more than the usual two parties in the frame . UK will only become more divisive as time moves on as for rioters they’re in the open it’s more sinister elements that operate under the cover of darkness that we should fear they’re much harder to detect and control especially if more sympathisers join the ranks. Prisoners that were released early are already being returned to prison some for more offending others because they’re homeless and that breaks the terms of their agreement, Starmers going to have a new homeless prison population to contend with as well as rising tensions on all sides.

I agree with the worsening sectarian part.
Yeh, it’s not great that adequate provisions don’t seem to be in place for those leaving prison but that would have be the case anyway. Some will be recalled early, for various reasons, that’s to be expected.
There has to be a massive overhaul of the probation service etc if things are going to improve.
People seeing the money that could help to facilitate this, among many other things, being diverted to asylum seekers and illegal immigrants, is not helping.
The amount given in ‘pocket money’ type payments to individuals is just the tip of the iceberg, you have to factor in accommodation costs, legal fees, investigations of claims, repatriation costs etc. It’s hugely expensive.
