Nobody with a thousands pounds designer dog could ever claim to be a true socialist. Suspect she knows this, and that’s why she’s so snippy.
And I really, REALLY get that. It can feel crap when a friend looses weight, kind of like I can find comfort in not being ‘the fat one’ or something, however isn’t that just internalised fat shaming? Since I found SH my weight has probably fluctuated from 11-18st, and I have always hated how she talks about people she decides are thin. It seems misogynistic to me. I have friends who have never been ‘fat’ so to speak, but does that mean fat shaming doesn’t impact them? No. Does it mean they aren’t allowed to feel fat or be inspired by body positivity. She also makes remarks about BP influencers being sexy, like that’s a bad thing. If you’re sexy you’re not fat, or something. She’s incredibly problematic, and I imagine tired from tying her brain in knots over how to be woke, and maintain her ‘otherness’. In reality she’s a privileged white person.Sofie was really upset when Adele lost a lot of weight too. While I understand what some people were saying about feeling sad that they lost a plus size famous person they could identify with, Sofie acted like Adele lost weight as a personal attack on her.
I don't know if anyone here follows the gender discussions thread, but it is clear from some of the (fringe parts of) the trans community (I am not anti trans at all fyi) but language for some people seems to have lost all meaning. Being attracted to the same sex is what gay or lesbian means, how is that somehow regressive? and how is it any different from people in the far right claming that beign gay or lesbian doesn't exist? It’s why the word queer has become meaningless. Remember when it used to be a powerful reclaiming of a word used as a slur now it’s just means anything and nothing . Also as a lesbian I find the whole woke idea that same sex attraction is a regressive thing now a bit terrifying.
She’s exactly like Jack Monroe in this regard, both of them have collected a host of marginalised identities that they whip out at break neck speed the minute anyone holds them remotely accountable. It’s then like how dare you say this are you trans/les/poor/xeno/everything else phobic!! So no one calls them out, no one can converse about this on mainstream channels like Twitter else they’ll be dog piled, so the grift continues til we start documenting it on tattle!Totally agree but how do her fans not see through this? I expect if confronted she'd say she deserves nice things and can't plan ahead for vet bills because, you've got it, trauma
I agree, I imagine a lot of the of plus size people in her demographic would actually exercise. Her constant negativtity is pretty draining tbh and not at all (imo) what the plus size movement seems to stand forI think a lot of her followers may like the ‘you aren’t defined by your body and you can be happy in your own skin’ type stuff she’s said but are probably turned off by the more extreme rhetoric such as exercise is pointless and a slippery slope to self hatred etc. I imagine there are plus size followers who might actually like exercise and don’t want to be shamed for that or told they’re ableist.
She also has a post where she outright says she doesn’t care about the environment and nature is boring (what?? Literally all nature??). I can see why a lot of people would be drifting from her.
Sofie strikes me as someone who has probably always been this unkind but was able to keep it better hidden until last year. She’s lost the plot hasn’t she? Genuinely gone a bit unhinged.
This actually really surprises me from Sofie. I used to listen to the Guilty Feminist religiously in its early years (its a bit too preachy lately but I still dip in occasionally).
Totally agree.I think someone did make a comment a while back about there being a lot of single use plastic and she flipped saying that you’re privileged if your able to be environmentally conscious and that not everyone can be. While I understand to a point that many environmentally friendly solutions can be more costly surely we can all make a small difference
