Can anyone help with adult acne please? My face is covered in blackheads and I get acne on my back and the top of my arms, really painful big spots.
I use salicylic acid but it doesn't seem to be doing anything so any advice would be great please.
I didn't get bad acne but was getting spots on my face a lot morw regularly until I started using niacinamide from the ordinary. Its very good. I was using it everyday but have now went to a couple of times a week or a bit more when I do get a spot.

Word of warning with Hyaluronic: it doesn't suit everyone (I can't use standalone HA serums, but find its fine in other products like moisturisers). Dr Shereen Idriss has a good video on it and reccomends Glycerine as an alternative.

Also a long Harpers article about HA
Ah I am definitely one of those who has been using it for months and not thinking that it actually does anything 😂 Thanks for posting that.

Looking for some advice… I have the following products but not sure if it’s safe to use them all at once and also not sure what order to use them in? Was wondering if anyone can offer any advice as to what I should use for morning and night? :)
Cerave salicylic acid cleanser.
Lacura (aldi own brand) glycolic cleanser
The inkey list tranexamic acid night treatment
The ordinary caffeine solution
Superdrug own niacinamide solution
The ordinary vitamin C suspension 30% in silicone.

TIA
The SA cleanser and glycolic acid cleanser might be harsh for everyday use so maybe use it 2-3 times a week and on a night (acids make your skin sensitive to sun). SA is good for oily/combo skin and glycolic removes dead skin cells to make skin glowy so depends what you need to get out of your skin!

The caffeine solution is good for under your eyes - I use it and then pop an eye cream on top as I have dry skin around my eyes.

Niacinamide is good for combo skin and can be used day/night. The vit c works best during the day paired with an SPF. Put that on first then moisturiser/spf. Double cleanse on an evening if you wear spf/makeup - look into a cream/oil cleanser as it will help remove it better.

The tranexamic acid is meant to replace a night cream - it helped clear up my ‘moustache’ mark from sun damage.

Sorry for the essay! I would suggest adding an SPF for day time use (if you don’t already) and an eye cream. Cerave do a good one. Hope it helps x

I bought a travel sized elemis balm from amazon a few weeks ago and I'm not a huge fan - it's okay if I'm not wearing makeup but I find it a bit of an effort to remove eye makeup with it and it makes my eyes really watery. I find myself reaching for my superfacialist cleansing oil more often than not. Which btw I've decanted into a small pump bottle - less messy to use as I just squirt out two pumps (lol) and it also lasts even longer as there's less chance of squirting it down the sink. I think it may be my all time HG.

I've been awful with my devices recently (I have a nuface mini and a currentbody LED) - couldn't tell you the last time I used them, but I've recently noticed my pitted scars in my cheeks are almost totally gone - most probably due to dermatica - I've been on it for a year now and have seen a huge improvement in my skin month on month but it's like the scarring has gone really suddenly recently. Best thing I ever did for my skin - and it (mostly) kicked my habit of buying every active serum/toner/peel that I came across in the hope they'd sort out my texture as I've been trying to keep my routine as simple as possible.

Has anyone tried the nuskin cleansing brush?
The only people I know who rate it are the people who sell it and the ones who refuse to admit it’s not great after spending best part of £200.
For a lot of people it’ll be the first time in their life they’re actually cleaning their face properly. 2 mins morning and night, people don’t do this with a flannel for instance: Also the products applied make a big difference.
it’s a bit like people who get an electric toothbrush and it makes a massive difference. Yes they’re better than a manual (muni is better than fingers) but it’s the fact that they are using the timer and functions to brush for a far extended time in a more effective way.
You could get a rip off foreo from Amazon for £15 and get the same results.

I have combination skin. I have tried everything known to man on my face! Eve lom, dermalogica, Liz Earle, Aldi, number 7, nip and fab, Elemis etc and I once even nearly got divorced when I bought creme de la mar.
The only thing that has ever made a marked improvement on my skin is the Soap & Glory range! I have the face brush and use that with the clarity wash, I then have the pore day cream and I use the night cream (with the bubbles) and eye cream and it’s never been better. It’s also on 1/3 off

Can anyone recommend a spf 50 lotion that cwn use daily more like a moisturiser that won't leave a white cast tia x
I would recommend la roche posay anthelios as a cheaper price point and obviously LRP is designed by dermatologists and doesn’t leave a white cast (i think they do a tinted version?) if you want something that makes you feel glowy with a slight tint and don’t mind the price tag then i recommend the elizabeth arden city smart prevage spf, has a slight tint and is gorgeous on the skin - I think it’s spf50????

just got my delivery today from the ordinary :)

- natural moisturizing factors + ha (already loving this one)
- niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%
- argireline solution 10%.

it sounds like i know what i'm talking about when i write this down but i absolutely don't. :D
can't wait to see some results though!
I swear thats my problem with the Ordinary products. I always confuse myself! The names are all so ingredients focussed and then I'm standing at my sink going...'wait, what does this do? Do I need this tonight?'. Then I end up doing a google search! I like that the Inkey List has a little thing on their label that mentions what the product is for.

Good luck with the new products!

If anyone’s after a really affordable face mask. The Inky List Kaolin mask is super good! Been using it a couple of weeks now, 2-3 times a week and the next day my skin looks so much smoother and clearer. It’s only about a fiver from boots

Can I ask about retinol again. I’ve used it a few times and my skin has become very rough and dry - almost sand papery feel to my forehead
How frequently are you using it currently? Which product? I would cut back on how often you use it. I have also heard it reccomended to apply retinol on top of your moisturiser if you experience irritation/dryness.

A favourite product of mine is La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume - it's my preferred final step whenever I use my retinol product (A313).

I use Clarins every thing have done for years! My older sister however uses Aveeno body lotion on her face nothing else and looks younger than me!! Doesn't tone, use spf or any eye creams 😄 she tells me it's all too much and your skin needs to breathe

I'm learning so much here!
Please can you suggest products/skincare routine for my 15 year old daughter? At the moment I'm encouraging her to cleanse with miscellar water (she doesn't wear make-up) and moisturise (with spf).
I'd like her to get into some really good habits, but I'm a little clueless myself (I'm very low maintenance ha ha).
Thank you 😊
I think you’ve got her on exactly the right track! As openbook said, spf would be the only thing I would add right now. If she doesn’t have breakouts etc I wouldn’t introduce other products for now. Keeping things simple and not irritating her skin barrier will pay off in the long run!

Pretty much the whole cerave range.. I don't know why I kept trying tbh! Just didn't help at all. The large blue tube caused jaw acne.
La roche posay effaclar moisteriser (didn't rate. Made my nose sting!) also tried the cetaplast baum as a hardcore attempt to treat the very dry patches (not as bad now) but was too greasy for my skin. Was recommended Simple range.. Not for me as it just didn't seem to do anything? Nivea also not for me, very heavily scented too. Got a random one in a green tub at the mo from tk maxx but again, very thin and does nothing.

Should I have a seperate night /day cream? I use la roche posay SPF which seems to be okay so maybe it's just the effeclar range that's the issue?

Ooh will have a look
Yeah I didn’t get on with the effeclar moisturiser either, made my eyes sting and water even though I was careful to keep it away from my eyes. Think it’s really perfumed. I have just started using the separate spf and it’s fine and no issues with eyes.

I was really loving the ambre solaire spf anti dark spots hyaluronic liquid but then realised it was only 3 star protection so decided to move to effeclar.

Moisturiser I’m enjoying this winter is Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Multi-Purpose Moisturiser. I first tried it last summer though and it was too thick and made my face sweat. Retried this winter and it’s perfect. So will have this as my winter moisturiser from now on.

It’s a while off but anyone got a summer moisturiser recommendation?

Does anyone have experience of using a few different azelaic acid products? I have just finished my The Ordinary one but I can’t say I’ve noticed much of a difference so far, and I find it quite often pills on my skin even if I leave it 10/20mins before applying any moisturiser.

I have looked at Facetheory’s 15% and Dermatica’s 20% products and I’m not sure what to buy next. I’m tempted to go for the stronger product to supplement my Dermatica prescription, but I noticed it has silicone (like The Ordinary one does) whereas the FT one doesn’t.. can’t decide! Anyone got any thoughts/experiences?
I've just started using the Facetheory one and am impressed so far. It's only been a few days and I've only been using at night, but my skin has felt great in the morning. I think there's been a subtle difference in reducing redness, but I think I'll have to wait another week or so to see if there's a big difference. Also, I've very sensitive skin and it hasn't irritated at all

I had the same problem with The Ordinary one - lots of pilling and did absolutely nothing

My skin has started pilling. I think that’s what it is, after googling.

It’s only in the mornings and I’ve not changed my routine recently. I use:

The Ordinary Niacinamide
Eye cream
Elemis pro collagen marine cream
Face oil (which is when it starts pilling)
SPF

Should I just leave out the face oil for a bit? Is it maybe that the Elemis and face oil aren’t a good mix?

I’ve tried leaving a good 15/20 mins for it to soak in properly and that doesn’t make a difference.
Yes, it the Elemis moisturiser pilling under the oil. Just use it in it’s own and will be fine.

1. Never used it
2. La Roche posay anthelios 50! Not used it recently tbh as I just haven't been outside very often
3. Day to day I keep it simple - cleanser, day and night moisturiser, serum when I need it. Scrub a few times a week, face masks when I feel like it. I used to use a lot more than this and it did not make much of a difference at all.

The video I shared goes cleanse, tone, exfoliate, tone, mask, tone, serum, tone, moisturiser and oil. I generally do cleanse, tone, exfoliate, tone, serum, tone, sometimes another serum, tone and then moisturiser.

I’ve been wondering where in the routine to do eye cream?

I choose to use separate so I know the spf I’m using is at least 4 star protection. But I don’t think there is anything wrong with using a combo if it works for you. I enjoy doing my skincare as well so enjoy the extra steps.
I’ll watch the video tomorrow properly but that’s sort of similar to 7 skins. I used to do that cleanse tone serum another tone etc depending on what I was doing. 7 skins is basically like you spray/tone and allow it to set and then you do it again but then you pay the product into your skin and then repeat the last step 2-3 times more. Google it it’s interesting!

I do eye cream after my first spray/tone as it’s the thinnest layer of your skin too so it’s going directly rather than on after all the other steps.
Is a moisturiser with spf in enough? I use a moisturiser with spf 15 and a bb cream with spf 15. Then in the summer I use spf 50 on my face if I'm going to be out in the sun a long time.
I personally use moisturiser and spf separately and felt I saw more benefits for my skin that way, also the same as above in terms of knowing i’m getting the protection from the spf. I want my moisturiser to be doing something different to my spf is protecting my skin, is an anti-oxidant and anti aging product so I want the moisture and hydration elsewhere. If it works for you then that’s great!

Hi, can anyone give me a little advice please! My husband is terribly stressed and has developed extremely bad, dark circles around his eyes. I know nothing is a miracle worker but can anyone suggest a non surgical cream or treatment that may help to improve them? They’re starting to effect his confidence! Preferably something which doesn’t require a remortgage on the house 🤦🏻‍♀️! Help! X
A friend of mine sqears by the ordinary caffeine serum. He showed me before and after and there was a noticeable difference after about 10 days.

I bought some for my husband who has bad under eye dark patches but it did nothing

However he has had them since I have known him (around 15 years) so maybe his is permanent now haha

Absolutely love this thread, so glad I started it.

My current routine is so simple but my skin has never felt so glowing and smooth.

AM:
Either Cerave smoothing/hydrating cleanser
Vichy 89 hydrochloric acid when skin is damp (this stuff is amazing)
Cerave SPF 25 moisturiser

PM:
Same but without H acid + with burts bees night cream which is super gentle.

Have done a couple of Himalayan charcoal face masks from the body shop and it leaves my skin feeling incredible and I really feel like it’s helping with blackheads/pores.

Wanting to add something in somewhere to further evening my skin tone/helping with black heads and large pores. Potentially want a stronger night cream too. Can anyone recommend anything and where in my routine I can put it? Glowy, smooth and less knackered looking is the goal 🤣. Thanks!
