Someone upthread mentioned Norman Wisdom. I once had the misfortune to spend a day with him. I chaperoned him, attending events for children throughout the area. He was fab, really good with them, even though I don’t think they knew who he was.
He was horrible to me. Ignorant, rude to the driver and really grubby. I met dozens of celebs and authors via work. He was by far the worst.

I do kind of understand why people who idolise him would want to just ignore what he did, but it makes me feel really sad for his victims. Whether their parents were naive or complicit it has the same outcome that kids were abused and it shouldn’t have been allowed to happen. A big money pay out doesn’t heal that or help fix their lives, having a large portion of his fan base deny any of it happened must be soul destroying for the children he hurt.

I think he paid people off under advice from his “team” because of how bad it looked.
I think he didn’t care what people thought about him having sleepovers with the kids as he was a megastar and could do what he liked (creepy AF, and wrong, but where’s the proof that anything sexual happened?)
Didn’t defend himself in court because again he’s a total oddball and would have been found guilty so took advice from his people to pay them off rather than go to jail and ruin his career at the height of it.

out of interest, what evidence would convince you? He’s dead. The kids are grown up. Historic sexual abuse rarely has any physical evidence. Do you simply believe the kids were vindictive and deliberately setting him up?

Oooh now I worked at a health centre and he came for a health check. I must admit he was charming, not up his own arse at all. No sign of being a pretentious prick. The same cant be said for Gloria Hunniford and Cheryl Baker.

I agree as I’ve met Cheryl Baker at a few wrap parties, didn’t like her at all. They say never meet your idols....I loved Bucks Fizz back in 80s. On the other hand, her sister was lovely; me and her got very pissed at one party. Kris Akabusi was totally delightful, great big booming voice; and actually remembered me from an earlier party!
