Seems to be standing in that yellow light again here, and flashing the classic “Kylie eyebrow” Botox side effect

Never pays full price for jeans. Never irons. Never found it hard to give up eating meat. Never uses Twitter. Never without facial spritz. Never elbowed another woman out if their job. Never doesn't declare an ad. Never went blonde. Never not used squalane oil for years.

Is it not quite telling that they are worth £246 but were sold on ebay for £15?
Some people are so obsessed with the value of everything regardless of if they actually like it.

She reminds me a bit of someone I knew who will buy any old discounted shite as long as it at one point had a high RRP.

Said person once declared to a room full of people to be careful with the table as it's a 2k table 😆. She got it discounted for 90% because it was a used and abused ex display model. They probably had to keep discounting until someone bought it.

I used to make this mistake after first encountering TK Maxx - I bought a few Ralph Lauren things which were tragically wrong for me.

Is the eyebrow as a result of botox though? I have one eyebrow higher than the other and I've never had botox in my life!

I think botox *can* give spock brow which is different (not to everyone, of course. Our friend Caroline Hirons has it but not everyone who gets botox does)

It’s not the “higher” it’s the fact that the face is contorted and only that side away from the forehead can move

The amount of 'not an AD' you see from influencers like Sali really shows that either they are ignorant (wilfully or not) of what an advertisement is or they think their audience are thick.

Yes you might not have been paid to advertise a product, had a contract drawn up with the brand etc etc. but you talking about a product or brand, from your position as a trusted 'authority' on the market, means that regardless of money changing hands you are advertising this thing to your audience. Especially if it is gifted to you or if it is some sort of press event or treatment - you are not obligated to post about it but there is that silent expectation you will, otherwise why would a brand have bothered spending money sending it to you? Why don't regular people without audiences get gifted stuff? Because we don't have to audience to advertise to. These things aren't 'gifts' they are payment for a brand using your unfluence with your audience.

Even if you paid for something, if you tag the brand, want them to see you posting about it etc. how is this not advertising? So many people will see that version of a product/service over another and have your endorsement for it, it is an advert (however casual) for that thing.

The ASA have a narrower definition but they are up against people literally trying to hide paid for sponsorships and dupe their audience into trusting them so admittedly they have bigger fish to fry than this, but people like Sali using the ASA definition as a get out of jail card are showing a fundamental misunderstanding of their position and what an advert can be,

And it’s a bloody AD. She is so dishonest.
100% AD. She has mentioned it twice. Was at the press launch dinner thing for it and is on the code8 IG release for it. She also got the very expensive lipstick free.
Fascinating to know how she thinks this does not qualify as an ad.

When I was still a fan of Sali's I always thought it was weird she never mentioned products she didn't like. She claimed it was because she didn't want to be negative but the whole influencer thing has opened my eyes....

As her IG post wasn't labelled as an ad, I'd assumed that she'd wanted to try this custom-made lipstick and had popped into the shop to try it when she was in London getting her hair done.

What I hadn't understood from her posts was that she, and others, had apparently been treated by the brand to a very smart-looking dinner in Mayfair at which the customised lipstick was an added attraction.

There may not have been a contractual requirement to post, but it's virtually the first rule of selling that if you give someone something (such as a fancy dinner and a specially customised product) they feel obliged to give you something (such as an IG post) in return.

She always posts in a way that makes it seem she was exclusively treated to things too, rather than sat at the C-listers table as an afterthought

I guess this was one of those times she made an exception to attend the actual PR launch

Alexa Chung was there, so I guess it was deemed worthy enough. Opportunity for a bit of brown-nosing

Plus the bait was on-point. Bespoke, personalised. Got to name it $aLi

Re the undeclared ADs, I think it's simpler just to assume everything an influencer posts has an ulterior motive. They are just fake, grinning billboards. Trust no one, take no prisoners

If you've constantly got your hand out to brands, why should I believe anything you say, when you've shown you are easily bought? Your opinion means nothing to me

I guess what I'm asking is, why is writing AD on everything so important when it's already known they are just salespeople?

1. We know that but not everyone does
2. It clearly annoys Sali for some reason....

I really miss the old days of blogging. I loved how blogging was hobbyists talking or writing about their latest Boots or wherever haul or products they loved/ liked/ hated, it seems so wholesome and pure now. As soon as companies and PR realised blogging could be commercialised, that was the death of it. They either went on to become 'influencers' or else the good ones disappeared because they were so frustrated with the change to the landscape.

For me, posters on this forum talking about purchases/ product recommendations etc is the closest thing we have to old school blogging.
