I really hate it when people demonise the mass murderer like that - calling him a monster. It’s so tabloid but also snobby.
Don’t get me wrong - he did a monstrous thing. We’ve already heard that he had mental health problems, I’m not advocating for feeling sorry for the guy, I’m just saying calm down with the demonising - and how about empathy for the victims, their family and friends?

I agree completely. It's oversimplistic knee jerk stuff. If we're always told that murderers, rapists and paedophile are monsters perhaps that's why signs that could prevent or reduce offending are missed. People are on the look out for a monster not someone unremarkable. Evil doesn't help either. Not sure I'm able to express my feelings on this adequately without them being misconstrued as an appeal for sympathy towards perpetrators but these tabloid terms - like the idea someone can have "the face of a murderer" are just dumb. And dishonest.
Didn't Sali once do just this, say someone (who later turned out to be completely innocent) had the face of a murderer, or am I misremembering?

Was it the landlord of the young woman who was killed? (It was her dutch boyfriend/ housemate / classmate) A lot of people went to town on the landlord.

I think I find her calling him a monster particularly grating because he had no self-esteem and thought he was fat and ugly. That played a part in him getting to the point he was murdering five people and killing himself. So perhaps the beauty editor of the Guardian could hold off calling him a monster within 24hrs of all this?
I don’t really understand your reasoning. What he did was monstrous and he’d bought into the incel stuff - thinking his life was tit because of women. I have no pity or sympathy for him.

Secondly- He hated himself and Sali calling him a monster confirms his fears. And all the other Incels will see it, further alienation

The man had seriously misogynistic beliefs from what has been reported so far and was deeply into incel beliefs.
many, many people with mental health issues are filled with self loathing. They do not commit mass murder.
1-2% of the population are autistic and do not commit mass murder.
This man committed atrociously monstrous acts and like Sali, I have been utterly horrified by them. I’m very uncomfortable with criticising a woman for having an emotional reaction to the despicable acts of a man with a gun.
That was just one of her tweets which I thought particularly rent-a-gob. Perhaps I shouldn’t have posted it alone. She did post more which did focus on the victims.
There are many people, such as Prof Jane Monckton Smith, who add genuine insight and analysis, Sali’s comments seem particularly lacking in that to me. Of course anyone is free to post their visceral reactions, but she so often shares the most obvious responses to the most high profile issues in a way that seems attention-seeking to me.
For example, how are these comments in any way helpful? I’d say the opposite and quite irresponsible given her platform:

While I completely see @Baroo11 points, and do not doubt Sali's motivation, I just wish she had stopped posting. Her tweets, for me, have tipped into dwelling on it.
I don't get why her heartfelt emotions needed to be constantly posted on twitter.
I read about it and was so sad and upset, but didn't feel the need to broadcast my emotions. I'll never understand that odd addiction to SM and the validation that comes with it. Why have this discussion with strangers when she has a partner, family and friends as it has affected her so much?
I really think Sali would be miles happier if she got off twitter. She could set up a bot to automatically post any articles/guardian columns, or get Lauren to do it.
Just to make sure we are not maligning anyone it was her dutch neighbour. It was not her boyfriend (he was devastated) housemate or classmate. I am not going to put her name as I would not want this site to come up in any search for her.
