We do 😩

What are everyone’s thoughts on the academic planner Ruby is bringing out?
So sorry 😰

The planner is not a surprise to me... Jack Edwards is on same management as Ruby and has released one this summer also. I' m not keen on the big spiral binding, they would get bent easily. And the planner market is very saturated.

OT but what do you mean? Epitome and epitomise are two separate words and are pronounced differently

It depends what kind of job they go into. I’ve got some friends in the city paying something mad like £150 a month so that on top of income tax (they’re in top bracket) is a huge chunk. Maybe they would have been better having their parents pay it off 😂

Re her career after I think she’ll do an MA and then maybe go into publishing? It’s incredibly hard to be a full time author and even though she has a following I don’t know how far that would guarantee success- her writing needs to be good.

Has anyone read her book/s? How’s her writing?
I haven’t read her book/s? but remember that the general consent on here (and GG) was that her writing was quite shocking for someone not only studying English but also the amount she seems to read in general.

I do think however she could be somewhat successful due to her audience. She’ll just need this to get picked up by a publisher and then they’ll do most of the marketing. She won’t win any literary prizes though...

I don’t understand the candle meditation in the morning, I would have that down as an end of day cozy decompression type thing to do, rather than in the morning. Each to their own though.

Pff I don’t think the hair cut is the issue for me, I’d probably put it in a bun and not allow her to put the hair clips in. I think the hair clips are a bit primary school
They just look a bit huge because she’s so petite. Clips like that can look great and very vintage, you just need to style your hair around them a bit. I have some like that and wear them up against a bun, for example. They look fine for work if you’re going for a bit of a vintage vibe - I’m a fan of 50s style dresses which can look very business-like with the right jacket and shoes. It depends where you work, you probably can’t go that quirky if you’re in a very corporate environment, but if you work somewhere a bit more flexible or a bit more ‘arty’ then you can show a bit more character. You just have to be a bit careful with how far you go, a vintage-y blouse and shoes mixed with a plainer suit/skirt is fine, or a plainer outfit with some subtle vintage jewellery or hair accessories. You just don’t want to go down the ‘explosion in a branch of Monsoon’ route!

There’s a large book tube community out there, it’s strange she doesn’t do a weekly reading vlog?

Anyone see in her latest video she's worried she may possibly have coronavirus as she's feeling ill and has a fever? So she took the precaution to not visit her grandparents BUT happily spends time with her sister and mum watching tv together...
Surely if you think you may have the virus you self isolate in your room away from anyone, even the people you live with??
You are supposed to, but it's really her family's decision since they shouldn't be leaving the house either. Medically you're right, but I can see why her family wouldn't want to leave her alone for the isolation period.

Oh, of course, she's an adult and can do what she likes.

I was thinking more when she was 15/16, she was behaving this way and her parents should have intervened then.
For sure. Same with a lot of study tubers, though. Although Ruby seems especially unhealthy in her habits.

What does her sister do? I always thought she was the more sociable of the two.

Ruby granger #2: It’s acadaymia not acadeemia
Another vote for this one!!

I genuinely don't think Ruby is that organised at all. At least she isn't with her youtube. I suppose she could be super-organised and film a load of videos in advance that are just ready to go, but then that ends up making her look MORE disorganised because they're old content (like her uni routines when she's been moved home a good few weeks now). And it's totally fine if she wants to be mega-organised like this and have loads of videos ready to go, but she just needs to be mindful of what content she puts out when, like not doing any more uni vlogs when she left uni. Things like book reviews, or study with mes, or things like that are probably worth having "ready to go" - but not routines etc that are no longer relevant :)

I’m sorry but this is actually nuts. Who schedules in something relaxing like watching YouTube? That just defeats the whole purpose of relaxing if you’re more bothered about ticking something off a list. Also, does she just never watch a film or binge watch a TV series?
Why only half an hour aswell

Does it seem like Ruby has been developing signs of an ED?
hopefully we’re both reading into this too much but I’m afraid she might be, she even said she was reading a book about bulimia in one of her latest “readathons” or whatever, so maybe some of the ideas and words in the book impacted her??

Maybe I‘m too old but why does someone even need a study aesthetic? 😂
Obviously it‘s important to have a nice area for studying and stuff but making it a whole lifestyle seems so unnecessary
I don't see it as a "study aesthetic" but more like a general aesthetic that I find likeable! I think ruby just takes it to the extreme with the clothing and decoration because that's her brand, that's what she has always done with Victorian era stuff and Harry potter too!

My housemate at uni (who is still a close friend years later) went to a private boarding school....£12k per term 😬
It’s weird though because you’d never know she went to such an expensive private school because of how...normal she is???
Per term damn. Also yeah, from my experience you'll have a fair amount of people completely unaware of their privilege and then some people who you'd never guess went to private school!

I think what shook us the most was the fact that she insisted on going back to uni, even knowing it wouldn't be the same. Like, it was her choice? And she didn't even give it a chance to things settle. She rushed there and then rushed back home. It looked like a waste of time and money. If she wasn't sure about dealing with the pandemic situation, she should've chosen to continue having online classes, like Holly Gabrielle did, for example.
that's fair, I just feel kind of bad for her since she didn't seem to be doing so great in her past videos.

Hope you’re ankle’s better now! x

I’ve used to have issues with my ankle and was told that once my injury has (almost fully) heal I should start cycling as it can actually help strengthen that area and therefore reduce the risk of another injury.
Ruby probably was told something similar and just thought that once the strong pain was gone she should cycle?
Thanks, it’s somewhat better now. Ruby may have been told something like that but I’ve never heard of cycling to heal an injury. But she definitely takes things too far - exercising for an hour a day is more than enough but she does it 3/4 times a day, someone needs to tell her to stop

Ruby is clearly struggling with her exercise routine - like her studying she takes it to extremes. In the same way studying for hours on end has impacts on mental health, over exercising is dangerous for physical health. I think she tries too hard to be perfect and wants the ideal productive life, but it’s simply not possible and most of the things she does are unproductive. When she injured her ankle it seemed like the end of the world for her that she couldn’t exercise. Then she said the physiotherapist said she should start cycling to heal. Now let me just say, I have a life long condition with my ankle and have seen many physiotherapists before and I’ve never been told that cycling helps relax the injury. I am convinced she made that up as an excuse to exercise - but it looks bad on the physio and for people like me. I could never cycle when I had bad ankle sprains/ flare ups. The way ruby wants to exercise so much that she would lie about something like that - she clearly has an issue with over exercising
