It’s not Ruby’s fault that she’s able to go home, her going home doesn’t take away from the fact that others can’t, if she hadn’t said anything people would be wondering why is she keeping it a secret
It’s not her fault that she’s able to come home (but it does show how extremely privileged she is that she can afford to leave her student house) but if she was that scared she shouldnt have gone in the first place. Every student knows the risk when you move back to uni, I’m on my own at uni in a tier 2 city with poor mental health and all I want is to see my family. But ruby can come and go as she pleases, she doesn’t have to think about rent, tenancy contracts or being in a high tier for lockdown. I don’t think it’s all her fault but she knew what it was going to be like, and her behaviour just reflects her privilege

It’s okay for her that she’s in the position where she can afford to move home. But for the majority of students like myself it just isnt an option and it’s shit for the rest of us who have to stay at uni because they’re in a higher tier and have contracts for rent. It’s just not fair that Ruby can do what she likes, leave the flat mate and move back home because she’s scared even though she’s only in Tier 1!! She should have stayed and got used to it, just carry on like everyone else. You can’t just run home when things are tough even though you might want to, I just think it shows how immature she it

She must have "time off" on the days she doesn't film, surely. No one can be that intense all of the time. I hope for her sake she does anyway...

I didn't even know "candle meditation" was a thing. I've unknowingly done it several times... basically just zoning out while watching a candle flame. I feel like making it a thing you have to do ruins the organic beauty of the moment.

Also, just did some power poses. Did nothing for me. Maybe it's a response you have to build up over time. I felt like I should have been waving my arms or dancing or something lol. Actually, a little dance in the morning is good fun. Let loose Ruby, do a morning jig. Shake things up 😅
the dancing in the morning is so true!! it wakes you up and gives you such positive energy afterwards, especially if you do it to music you love!!

Don't post much on here but is anyone else concerned that Ruby keep's thinking someone's trying to break in? She mentioned in a video quite a while ago it used to happen when she was younger and she couldn't be left in the house alone. It's really upsetting seeing her slip back into this I hope she's okay.
when i was living at home before uni i was constantly worried of having someone breaking in at night and because my room was the first one at the top of the stairs it would scare me even more. i would constantly try to go to sleep before my parents went to bed, this was at the big age of 18 as well. it must be horrible how shes feeling if its the same feeling that i was going through.

Rubys insta story - talking about A level results in what I'm assuming is a paid ad and how there are always options regardless of A level result etc etc
All the StudyTubers (adults!) have been going on about their own A levels all day.

Here's my favourite, for the irony factor:

She's a landlord to the house, which is why I think she's keeping it private now since someone else lives in that place and she's respecting their privacy.

I don't understand the obsession with reading a book whilst brushing teeth.

1. Surely you only brush teeth for a couple of minutes and therefore only read a page.
2. Surely as it is a paper copy you would get splashes on it
3. Can you not be alone with random thoughts for 2 mins that you have to escape into fiction? It just seems a really unpractical task to multitask. An audio book on the other hand, fine, if you are already listening.

I think Ruby is a kind soul but she is certainly in her bubble of privilege.
to be fair, as someone in this thread said before, ruby has accepted to take some time off more openly, either watching tv or taking care of herself, which i find very mature for her, whilst other people, like holly gabrielle, don't accept spending one single second alone with their thoughts
i think that the reading while brushing her teeth thing now comes as some sort of inner joke ? in her last video, the countryside night routine, ruby says sarcastically: "...then i brush my teeth, and, because it's me, i read while brushing my teeth"
rosie crawford made a video living a day like ruby and she acknowledged this part of the routine and laughed at it, and jade has mentioned it before (i think during her talk with ali abdaal?) that she wishes to be someday as productive as ruby who 'reads while brushing her teeth' so i'd say it's some sort of 'meme' of her at this point? anyways i might be reading too much between the lines

But I do think having a proper house meeting with an agenda at the beginning of the academic year is definitely wise. There are definitely things you want to discuss beforehand (like sharing of certain kitchen stuff [oil, salt, etc.] and when/how you stock up on them; cleaning plan; how everyone feels about the pandemic, etc.).
I'm guessing they might have also used this as a little get-together and get-to-know-each-other time, considering it was around dinner time. So like, have some food, get to know your new house mates, discuss living arrangements.
Yeah okay, that's fair enough actually. I guess I've lived in so many house-shares I've just become so relaxed, but when I think back to my first few rentals at 18/19 we definitely had house meetings. I think it was just the mention of the agenda that shocked me 🤣

I haven’t read her book/s? but remember that the general consent on here (and GG) was that her writing was quite shocking for someone not only studying English but also the amount she seems to read in general.

I do think however she could be somewhat successful due to her audience. She’ll just need this to get picked up by a publisher and then they’ll do most of the marketing. She won’t win any literary prizes though...
The reviews aren't great if you read them.

I think some people have stated that she used words that weren't fitting for a young girl. Like the way she describes things for example.

The impression I get from Ruby is, she uses bigger words to sound clever and to impress people with her academic abilities.

Eh, her reaction really isn't that different to most other young people that I've seen on my instagram. A lot of people over here are celebrating because the US has beaten Trump and I think for a lot of young people (without getting too political) it signals a possibility that maybe we can also beat our own questionable government.
I’ve seen a lot of positive reactions to it, but none from any non US people as positive as hers. It does indeed and in terms of brexit its a good thing for the UK, however in all fairness ruby is rarely vocal about British politics. I’m just surprised how little she must know about Biden to be celebrating so enthusiastically is all

Is it just me or she's look better and more her age with a proper hair cut? It's nitpicky but I think that her hair makes her look even younger, it's sort of an awkward length and it doesn't seem like it's been cut in ages. Of course maybe it's just because we're in a pandemic and she hasn't been to the hairdresser in a while to avoid contacting the disease.
I think if she got layers and framing cut in, she'd look more age-appropriate. Thing is, I don't think age-appropriate is what she's going for...

I honestly forget how old she is. I haven’t read this thread properly so don’t know the mood about how everyone feels about her, but she comes across, (not saying she is) as someone who thinks she’s above everyone else
Let's put it this way: if she entered a room containing a random assortment of 30 people (of different ages, genders, backgrounds etc.), she'd definitely think that she was the cleverest person there.

I thought she was sharing a house with both Blakeley and Sasha? But since they met Sasha in town i don't think they live with her? idk.

edit: this is a comment under her video. So apparently she only lives with Blakeley?

I'm probably too old and insular to completely understand the world of dark academia, but this point baffles me - can't POC dress in that fashion, or have decor that reflects the trend, etc?
Genuine question, because I googled this and couldn't find many debates about it.
Of course it can, and should, include POC but what I mean is that quite a lot of people specifically romanticise the contextual time period (where education was obv just for the privileged, white and mainly men) as well as just the study aspect and general aesthetic. It can be harmless but people just have to be careful with what they advocate I guess :)

Where’s the attention to detail! Could see her blonde hair poking out the back of the wig 😭
Why did she awkwardly climb over the fence instead of going through the gate
Hugging the tree and smiling as the camera gets closer

😭

It happens.
Most of the siblings I know have completely different personalities (including me and my sis), it’s quite normal imo.
Competition among siblings sounds unhealthy and exhausting 🤷🏻‍♀️
It depends what you're like personality-wise I guess! My brother and I are very different with different interests and skills but we've alwaya had some healthy competition. We're like this as a family too, love a good family quiz or board game night and we all get very competitive! It's healthy competition. But I know if I had a sister like Ruby I would definitely feel pressure to be like her or live up to that. It's just what I'm like as a person, we're all different. I couldn't imagine a dinner table without a lively discussion, or a games evening without a bit of competition, and I couldn't imagine having a sister like Ruby (especially as she is the older one) to "live up to" - all I was saying is perhaps her sister has gone down the route of being totally different so she doesn't feel like there is pressure to be anything like her. That's all. Each to their own :)

In other news, I'm not sure why Ruby hasn't addressed moving home in any of her videos yet, or made one about it. She's said in comments she's moved home "because of Covid" which is fine and she doesn't need to "defend" herself, but completely ignoring things isn't the way to go...

is it just me wondering why she hasn't moved back to uni yet as most student housing leases start at the beginning of July
When I went to uni I'd move back the weekend before term started, so early - mid sept even though my rent started in August and I was paying for it. My housemates also moved in around sept time too

I love Ruby and I'm really impressed and inspired with her work ethic. One thing I can never understand tho is how she manages to film these "productive day with no sleep videos", when I have a sleepless night I'm literally a zombie during the day. I must be really out of shape to have my whole day ruined if I don't get my sleep lol

I always like to think when she say's something like 'i spent the last hour and a half having lunch but I didn't film it' it's actually her having a nap ;)
