I think it depends on what research is being done.
Some texts are not kept on site and have to be obtained from offsite storage.
A text from C17 may require supervision. White gloves and book cushion etc
When studying medicine it was somewhat normal to ask for help with literature research not only for older papers but also for like defining search parameter on pubmed. Ppl working there are ver
So I

I don’t know about Oxford in particular and haven’t used this service myself, but at the universities I’ve studied, MA students and up could book a limited number of meetings with librarians to have some kind of consultation about finding sources for larger research projects. It never made sense for me, since everything I worked with was pretty thoroughly digitized, but friends who did more historical subjects did use these consultations. Librarians at academic institutions are amazing at their jobs, and I’d assume libraries at Oxford would invest in that kind of expertise as a resource.

Doesn’t have to be the explanation here, but doesn’t seem impossible either.
i studied medicine and we had the librarians available to us for every research. They are very good at defining mesh terms for online research as well, imagine how good at it u could get if that’s the only thing u are doing day in day out. They did have extra personal for the upkeep of the library like returning books etc. even prof used there services. And if only to get somebody to look over it before one spends years doing a meta analysis and then noticing that the search terms could have been more precise or broader

It implied the Librarian knows her area of research and either happened across a book he knew she would be interested in or was actively searching on her behalf.
Worth bearing mind as well that Ruby has a tendency to embellish these kind of things, choose misleading language or outright lie to make herself seem special.

She did it a lot at Exeter and tried to make it seem like she was some kind of VIP on her course or every tutor's favourite student, when she was either making stuff up or misrepresenting everyday meetings and blanket emails that were sent to all students and acted like they were just for her.

She's always been a relentless suck-up with tutors and faculty (sending them unsolicited letters, cards and gifts constantly), so it's entirely possible she has made an effort to speak to the librarian there whenever she's there, they remembered one of the areas of study she feigned an interest in or asked about and were nice enough to ask if she'd like to view a text they came across that they thought might interest her.

But it's also likely that she just put in a standard request to view a manuscript mentioned on her course that was in the library's archives and then she got a boilerplate email from the library to confirm she could view them at a certain time, then she embellished from there.

More than likely she sees it as a fun way to pretend she is a kid having a sleepover, like Anne Shirley and Diana Barry in Anne of Green Gables, who also shared a bed, or how she used to have sleepovers with her cousins a few times a year. She doesn't seem to know who or what she is or will be, so I think a lot of people are imagining things for the sake of creating more curious content.
They are bosom FRANDS.

Exactly!! Everyone thinks there's some secret story or meaning, when most the time it's cases like this! Like lets actually focus on the main discussion as now it just feels like speculation about a non existent relationship... a waste of time. Like who cares if she's in a relationship or not. It's not our business or care whatsoever!
Edit for spelling
???? Nothing about her life is ‘our business or care’, though???? If you don’t believe it’s the case, that’s fine, and btw the bed thing wasn’t even brought up by someone who believes they like each other, it was someone else.

It’s funny for it to be dismissed as ‘not our business’ as if every single post in all 45 threads isn’t talking about stuff that is not our business!

Awesome thank you. What a great resource to have at MA and up. I work in libraries but not Academia so only search what special collections we have upon request. I'd imagine Oxford has lots of materials that will never be digitized and aren't catalogued either.

Personally I don't think Blakeney and Ruby are a couple and that people may wish they were or are reading into things that just don't exist. Lots of people share beds when travelling and it doesn't mean a thing. Married or non-married, I've slept next to other women and that is it. We chat, we fall asleep. Nothing going on. Maybe it saves on money, maybe we are at a home or on retreat and chose to share for convenience sake, or there simply isn't a choice in the matter. Simple as that. I believe Ruby admires Blakeney, is attached to her to some degree, is amazed to have a friend, but I also think Blakeney, while being a kind and patient person, only feels friendship with Ruby and isn't calling out on the top of her lungs that Ruby is her favourite person or her best friend. She may very well not be, and as Blakeney makes friends throughout her life, possibly marries, has inlaws, co-workers, neighbours, etc., she will find better and more mature friends than Ruby. Ruby has a tremendous amount of maturing to do. I don't think sex even passes through her head, let alone casual dating. More than likely she sees it as a fun way to pretend she is a kid having a sleepover, like Anne Shirley and Diana Barry in Anne of Green Gables, who also shared a bed, or how she used to have sleepovers with her cousins a few times a year. In many cases, people share beds with family too. And don't sing Sweet home Alabama about it.

But I understand why this subject tend to be addressed now, her content is so poor that there's not a lot to comment out of that.

Just looking at her birthday pictures on instagram and my God, that house is so dirty. Like actually encrusted in filth. All the walked through dust on the floor. The pot rimmed with old food. That couch that Clarice is sitting on looks like a dirty deballed scrotum. Why are the pillows so flat? Why are is the cabinet hanging open? Why are all the potted plants dead and infested with weeds? And, per usual, I see that Clarice has fixed herself up a little drinky drink.

How much do you want to bet those balloons will still be there the next time she shows us the PaLoUr?

I think you might be on the wrong forum. Are you aware of what the meaning of the word tattle is?

Her house really is gorgeous. This moulding on the walls, the massive windows, the high ceilings. It’s such a pity that their sofas look like they came from the local dump. It makes me so sad because the house just looks so dirty, empty and uncared for. It’s like they don’t take pride in it at all. To Ruby’s credit her bedroom is actually decorated quite nicely (except for that horrible blanket she uses as a rug). I mean ‘nice’ is generous but compared to the rest of the house it may as well be in an interior design magazine.

I just can’t get over how sad and empty this room looks 😭 literally looks like they’ve just moved in. I do wonder if Ruby is embarrassed of the state of her house or if she doesn’t realise. She’s always refused to do a house tour but that might be because she doesn’t want to come across as ‘too rich’.

I'm starting to understand why she mainly stays in her room. At least it's somewhat tidy...

The constant overkill of presents and celebration on her birthdays just shows how her family has really fostered her childish behaviour. They seem to get a high on it. And I'm not talking about the expense. I don't see Tiffany jewelry, Louis Vuitton, Chanel bags, etc.. Her presents are usually down to earth. But the amount, the need for balloons, attention, at her age, is ridiculous. When I was 21 my parents, sister and BIL gifted me a rocking chair I wanted for my room and for my future home. My sister sent me a dozen yellow roses to my workplace which I kept on my work desk for the day, then brought it home. We also went out to eat for Chinese food at one of my favourite restaurants. After that a present from my parents was more than enough on my birthday. I was a working adult, I was making my own money. I was becoming independent. I had no desire for balloons, parties or any of that foolery. I grew up. Her need to advertise her birthday on social media, hoping for best wishes from a bunch of strangers on the internet, is just so messed up. We know she will be milking it for the next month, like previous years. What a self-absorbed weirdo she is!

Yeah, with the dead flies, filthy and never changed sheets, dirty computer screens, dripped wax, unbelievable dust under her bed, clothes strewn about. The whole family lives in a pigpen.

I wonder if it's just a thing in her family to make a fuss of birthdays or if Ruby's given special treatment.

Totally agree. They're lucky to have this big, old house surrounded by greenery, but they don't make the most of it. To me, it's always looked as though they had the kitchen redecorated but then ran out of money to finish the rest of the rooms. 😅 Those ugly sofas are the WORST - they're just so out of character with the rest of the space.

Obviously we are here to talk about every part of Ruby's life because she's the one editing this trash and putting it out there in search of money, but since it's so clear that Blakeney isn't trying to be in the public eye I feel like it is unfair to speculate about things that she might not want to be broadcasted to everyone.

The problem is actually quite the opposite. Ruby wants to give the illusion that the house is bigger and grander than it actually is. Her house is an old manor house that has been split up into three separate attached houses. They are pretty standard inside.

Assuming hers is the same as the one next door that we've seen the floor plans to, it's a 4bed, 2bath, kitchen/diner, utility, living room (PaRlOuR) dining room (LiBaRy), with a small box room and attic.

Doing a DPhil at Oxford would be a good excuse to keep being able to go home every weekend and every break. Surely that's enough of a reason for Roobs.
Every weekend? Surely you jest. She's said that she only has tutorials one day. She's 100% at home 5 days a week. Bare minimum.

The dingy decor, crappy trash furniture and Ruby's ridiculous child cosplay makes it look like she arranged another 10th birthday party for herself at a poorly-funded youth centre and nobody showed up.

But aren't you supposed to teach courses when you're doing a PhD? Although maybe not... from the U of Oxford website:

"DPhil students are not required to be resident in Oxford, but will normally be required to attend for at least 30 days per year and to meet their supervisors at least once per term."

Only 30 days per year! Just enough for Rubles to get her shots of the Radcliffe Camera in different seasons for her socials yet not have to live in Oxford. Ideal! 😅
