This might seem a bit random but I went on the Emily Dickinson Museum's website today because I was interested after watching a few clips of Dickinson on Youtube, and lo and behold, who do I see on the front page? None other than our Roobertamba.

She is everywhere, it pisses me off. Why would the official museum have her there? Did she do some sort of sponsorship with them or am I remembering wrong?

Genuinely so irritating.

noticed two contradictions…Ruby saying it’s best to use a case on your iPad if you’re using it in tablet form but showed her using it without a case throughout the video. Also when she put the whole thing in her bag she said it’s very lightweight but near the end she said it’s quite heavy??

The lie squint is so hilarious to me. She looks at footage of herself all the time, she must know that she does this, right?

I just started paying attention to the lip-smacky mouth noises that people have pointed out and now I can’t unhear them, it’s like listening to a snail trying to communicate. Also when she’s speaking to the camera, she will look anywhere but the camera - which on the one hand I understand, it may be uncomfortable, but she goes overboard with the eye-rolling to the point of looking comical.

I finally got round to watching the video and yeah, it’s odd but I really think it’s Ruby’s/Marfa’s attempt at being ‘quirky’ and it just falls flat. I got the impression that there was some kind of brief from the sponsor about ‘listening’ and the pair of them just ran with it in a really strange direction. It felt like someone had done a mind-map about listening and then filmed it ... That and the audio quality is shocking, and Ruby’s overall affect turns quirky into vaguely sinister. I also find it really strange that she doesn’t seem to mention the sponsor at all, there certainly wasn’t anything in there to explain what they do - the video doesn’t fit the sponsorship at all. I thought sponsors usually had to sign off videos so God knows why they agreed to this manic pixie nightmare.

Your comments about "pre cent" reminds me of this funny answer from Ruby a couple of years ago. She not only refuses to learn from others, she will passive aggressively use her go-to misunderstanding of Wittgenstein and sign it with a kiss haha. She really loves to learn Latin, doesn't she

the cheapest I could find it was over 60 € but sure, boo hoo about how £15 is sOoOoOo expensive for a book

edit: I’m by no means judging anyone for splurging on books, I’ve done my fair share, but Roobee 1) will grift anything and everything to avoid spending any of her own money and 2) never fails to mention how expensive something is when it suits her just to seem relatable, and this just shows how she can easily spend money whenever she feels like it.

Tbf, isn't it more honest and real for a studytuber to show those moments where they get super tired and have extreme eyebags? If she only ever showed herself happy and pretended she wasn't stressed, it would be a terribly false construction of student life for her younger audience (Ruby is guilty of doing this at times). I'd rather pics of her eyebags and acknowledgement of stress, than her showing herself twirling on her countryside estate and then later quietly admitting to hating her time as a student, like she did with Exeter...

She has a strong tone of finality when Oxford is mentioned lately, so it's seeming less and less likely that she'll be staying to get her DPhil. I do wonder if potentially not having secured a position on the DPhil at Oxford is making getting through this last stretch harder? All of the hard work might feel kind of futile, from her perspective, if she doesn't have her next dream position lined up. I at least hope that she realises, by virtue of being there, that Oxford isn't the be all and end all.

You’re right (and I agree with your speculation), and I’m not criticising the eyebags so much as I’m just finding it amusing that she will tell us she loves her diss topic yet not tell us what it is. She’s an enigma shrouded in mystery wrapped up in a question mark, for sure.

I fully agree with this!! She has an incredible following, it'd be foolish to let that go to waste and the fact she didn't grasp that opportunity during her gap year really confuses me. She'd do well to knuckle down with Pumpkin Productivity and start to make products to sell in traditional stores and bookshops, and even get these books written and published if she was so serious about it, or just to create good content about the creation of said books. It feels like such a waste seeing her regurgitate the same sorts of videos when she has the opportunity to do so much more with her platform and actually get good at what she's already doing. She's been on the platform for a good few years now and her content and videography haven't really changed, it's all this gifted-child facade that is dwindling very quickly and isn't solid enough to become anything more than it is. She's in an amazing position but with all jobs, you need to work hard and it really seems her content is an afterthought whilst she still lives in this fantasy of what she was told when she was in school. I don't expect everyone to have incredible video skills but it's not as if she's new to it— her videos are just not engaging enough now to her audience because they're all the same age as her and she just hasn't grown up.

As you said, content creation doesn't last forever and her business is a great way to keep income coming in once her niche begins to fade but at the same time, if she's just going to bring out yet another bloody planner and barely promote it, it's hardly going to grow with it as it is. She honestly just needs to stop living in this fantasy land where she'll get what she wants and actually begin to work hard at something other than academia because those rose-tinted glasses are certainly slipping now she's in Oxford and it's clearly not what she thought it'd be.

She's said in the past that she doesn't want to be a content creator forever, and that she has other aims. I think her content is, at present, golden handcuffs. She still makes good enough money off it to justify doing it, even if she kind of doesn't want to. That was definitely the vibe in MT and HT, though she seems to have perked up a bit recently.

If video creation was a passion in and of itself for her, she would be using it to help her get through and it would be her happy thing. However, she only ever portrays the best version of herself, and so I believe she is using it for positive reinforcement from fans. When she doesn't have anything positive to demonstrate (coffee fuelled late night essay crises are unfortunately not her brand, even though she's definitely had some I reckon), she finds it impossible to make content because she fears she won't get the "oh wow you're so smart" "you're so inspirational" "you're a role model" that she relies upon.

Couple that with the fact that she doesn't really have anything else going on in terms of marketable skills to get her a similarly well paid job, it's no surprise she continues to slog on (again, she seems to have refound some passion for it with her "absurd day" videos, which I enjoy, personally). She won't stop until she finally goes off the rails or it finally stops making her money because people have stopped watching.

I think Ruby is 100% in love with Blakeney. She was so happy to see her, couldn't take her eyes off her and was laughing and giggly, very flirty. I hope the feeling is reciprocated, they could make a great couple

I agree but I don't personally think Blakeney gives off the same vibes towards Ruby. Idk it feels like a one sided crush to me.
But I don't really want to speculate on someone's sexuality or the nature of a relationship between two people.

More than likely she sees it as a fun way to pretend she is a kid having a sleepover, like Anne Shirley and Diana Barry in Anne of Green Gables, who also shared a bed, or how she used to have sleepovers with her cousins a few times a year. She doesn't seem to know who or what she is or will be, so I think a lot of people are imagining things for the sake of creating more curious content.

Her house really is gorgeous. This moulding on the walls, the massive windows, the high ceilings. It’s such a pity that their sofas look like they came from the local dump. It makes me so sad because the house just looks so dirty, empty and uncared for. It’s like they don’t take pride in it at all. To Ruby’s credit her bedroom is actually decorated quite nicely (except for that horrible blanket she uses as a rug). I mean ‘nice’ is generous but compared to the rest of the house it may as well be in an interior design magazine.

I just can’t get over how sad and empty this room looks literally looks like they’ve just moved in. I do wonder if Ruby is embarrassed of the state of her house or if she doesn’t realise. She’s always refused to do a house tour but that might be because she doesn’t want to come across as ‘too rich’.

Boo hoo so STRASST, I love my dissertation topic but will not tell you what it is (even though we can all reasonably guess it has to do with constructions of childhood, probably GARLHOOD, in Early Modern literature). I tried to look up when dissertations are due, all it says is ”early June” and a mention of how it’s possible to ask for an extension. So possibly the end of this week. (I do kind of feel for her, crunch time is stressful whether or not you’re smart/stupid/pretentious/realistic/lazy/a perfectionist to begin with… it’s universal.) (edit: however, the rest of us aren’t monetizing our eye bags on social media)
