I think I’d actually ascend if I got to see someone point out how performative everything she does is/the fact that she pretends to read books for online clout and it’s very obvious - directly to her face. It won’t happen, but I can fantasise.

I’m surprised she wants to be seen as a debater on influencing? It’s quite modern isn’t it- she won’t be able to pretend she’s a child in the 1900s giving opinions on that? Especially in contrast to the more serious topics debated at the Union it’s a bit of a fluff topic in contrast, surprised she didn’t wait out for a debate about history or literature. I think she’s more media aware than we know :)

I’m so confused by what life she’s trying to build. She just looks like a lost Victorian child to me. Do other people dress like this at Oxford?

Ruby is going to be debating at the oxford union in around a month about whether the rise of influencers is regrettable. Bear in mind that this is not the student union and is not affiliated with the university. Other guests this term include Ben Shapiro and Katie Hopkins so she’s in good company 🤢. PLEASE if any of you happen to be members of the Oxford union (membership is £300 😵💫) I beg of you to go and report back

Oh lord. I'm genuinely wondering if she knows what she's getting into. Oxford Union types are the bleeping worst, and if it goes badly she's going to have that on her back the whole term. She should've said no and left that tit for the end of the year when she can leave and be safe in the knowledge that she doesn't ever have to see those people ever again.

I hope at least that she's smart enough to make some masters student friends and bounce some ideas off of them. Her YT audience clearly leans very young and if she goes to the debate thinking the sort of 'Miss Honey vs Miss Trunchbull' level analysis haphazardly thrown together while juggling a book and a degree is going to be well received, she's going to really embarrass herself and spoil what was her dream experience for years.

wait I haven't really seen a lot of posts here lately but why do we think that Ruby doesn't read at all? I assumed that writing your university dissertation and getting a decent first would require at least some reading, surely she can't copy paste from Blankley *I hope I spelled her name correctly*

It is going to be Michael Scott level cringe.

That's what was confusing to me too, I didn't go to Oxbridge but that's the done thing, surely? When I visited Oxford, souvenir shops were chock full of generic university merch but I can't remember ever seeing college merch - maybe I wasn't paying attention. She could have done all she's doing right now as a temporary visitor to Oxford, I hope she's just getting it out of her system.
When I was at Oxford, my dad bought himself an Oxford varsity tracksuit and WORE IT JOGGING around our town. I was mortified.

I think it will be on par with the Scott's Tots episode level of cringe 😬
I think I would respect her more if she withdrew from the debate because of 'illness' and forget the whole thing. The other side will surely bring up examples of harmful influencing, they may also do their research on her specifically, and call out some behaviours of hers. I can see her floundering and unable to retort, because she can't even acknowledge when a fan points out her misuse of words, in her comment section.

Not as in not reading at all, but reading way less or just skimming over the books she claims to have read

There's been lots of evidence that Ruby doesn't read the books she claims to, academically and recreationally.

She's admitted on multiple occasions that she reads study guides/character guides and does so before even opening the actual book. She claims this is so she understands the text before going into it, but that makes zero sense and this is quite obviously her reading Sparknotes instead of the actual text.

On top of that, throughout her degree, Ruby mentioned that she scheduled in a session with Blakeney before every single seminar to discuss the required reading. Ruby made sure that she and Blakeney were on every module together and that Blakeney shared all her Notion notes for uni. She claims to be a genius, yet apparently needs study guides and her best friend to explain basic undergrad texts to her. Again, it seemed like a blatant red flag that she skipped the reading and got Blakeney to bring her up to speed.

She's often completely unaware of major plot points in books she claims she read at least once, if not multiple times. With Call Me By Your Name, despite saying she read the book twice, she was unaware of the infamous peach scene. She claimed she'd just forgotten about it when commenters pointed it out (after she featured a scene in an Italy vlog of her messily eating a peach while pretending to re-read CMBYM, blissfully unaware what happens in the book).

She's openly admited to only skim-reading certain genres of books before and said she would just flip past any scenes that bored her (scenes featuring relationships, sex, drugs or anything that Erimentha Parker wouldn't agree with) even though this would be a huge chunk of a lot of books. She's been quiet about it since, but clearly it still happens, if she reads the books at all.

She's been caught recently getting ChatGPT to tell her things that happened in books she claims she read.

Her reviews and comments on anything she reads are completely devoid of any information beyond what you'd find in a cover blurb. When asked to provide more detail/information, she'll ignore people or offer bizarre excuses for why she can't.

Her reading/readathon vlogs never usually discuss the book at all. There's just a heavy emphasis on how many pages she read instead. It gives the distinct impression that she's just pretending to read for the camera, especially when you factor in that all her "I read X books in 24 hours" videos are blatantly edited together from several days of footage.

At best, she skim-reads everything and skips past major chunks of the book, then claims credit for reading the full thing. At worst, she's not reading most books at all and just uses study guides, lecture notes, Googled thoughts and ideas and Goodreads reviews as a substitute for reading the book.

English Lit! I ended up specialising in Old and Middle English, just because I was SEW into the ACADAMACK ASSTETTECK.

It was bloody ages ago. I graduated in 2003!

Assuming someone has an ED is even a bigger d*ck move.
I don't think it's fair to say people are assuming Ruby has ED. Seeing a skinny person and assuming they have ED is very wrong and can be very damaging, but pointing out that a lot of behaviors someone's displaying are common with an ED is an observation, not an assumption. A lot of people have disordered eating which is different from having ED, and could very well be the case with Ruby. Ruby could also just not show a lot so we could be seeing a lot of things out of context. Either way, I think it's good that we're not saying this on her page as that could affect her mental health, but I think it's also good that this generation recognizes potentially damaging behavior. In the 90s, a lot of ED behaviors were praised, and I'm glad we're not glorifying that anymore.

Ultravegan Rubert confirms that she didn't buy the vegan Doc Martens and went leather instead.

I can see her leaving mid debate in tears tbh...
I genuinely do feel a bit worried about this. I know Ruby can be a bit of a twit but I’ve watched quite a few OU debates online (they have a YouTube channel) and it looks like it can be quite a bruising experience for some. Since Ruby appears to be so scared of Oxford and other students that she’s only leaving her halls at 6.30 am to go to Pret, I don’t know how she’s going to cope with that. That and if she’s not keen on being recognised, this seems counterproductive.
