I think the reason she’s obsessed with asking her tutors questions is because she is trying to mimic the supervision/tutorial system at Oxbridge where this is very much encouraged. From what I gather, other unis don’t really have a similar sort of system where you have small group teaching and so her trying to go to lecturers and ask them things is trying to mimic the Oxbridge experocne.

watching an old study with me during summer holidays. she points out that she doesn’t usually study longer than 2-5 hours (which is okay imo) and then she just goes and has a bowl of popcorn as a study snack. who even is this girl? not ruby for sure

The vibe I'm getting is that her classmates probably thought she was a bit odd but there wasn't any extreme bullying. Later she exaggerated it to seem more relatable to her young viewers and also to get a bit of that "poor you, that must have been horrible, you're so strong" validation. But of course she was "in denial" so if anyone who knows her from school says "you never mentioned bullying" she can say that she didn't realise it was bullying at the time.

Speaking of younger Ruby, I had this pop up in my YouTube recommendations that I can't believe I'd never seen before:
...
Oh, and Erimentha Parker wasn't written or published for "professional" purposes. She just wanted to share it with her viewers. In exchange for money.
I still find it stunning how much she charges - £7 for the paperback for something that wasn't even proofread. You could get Jacqueline Wilson books, of much better quality for far cheaper than that.

It's telling that she sees Erimentha's flaw as her naivety, not her obnoxious competitive behaviour towards basically all other children. That obviously does not excuse the bullying, but it's clear that Ruby sees absolutely nothing wrong with Erimentha behaving that way. That might have been excusable when Ruby was Erimentha's age or close to it.

But while we say this is "younger Ruby", in this video she is only a month or two away from being a legal adult. And she was headgirl and in peak "role model" mode. I hate to think how many kids she influenced to act like Erimentha. I also fear that, judging from her results video and what she said about her grades, not enough has changed.

I also don't think Ruby confused bullying with lack of friends, as someone said earlier. She seems to be distinguishing between the two in this video (a lot of which seems quite a mature reflection, in sharp contrast to the Erimentha Q&A). She also mentions that she was bullied in at least five school years, and not in the same way or by the same person; that might account for the discrepancies about whether she realized it was bullying, if she's referring to different times.

Still no Italy vlog. I thought the academic year ended already? Day late and a dollar short as usual, Roobee.

I can’t, she’s legit pretending she’s back in school. ”Write thank you cards to your teachers! List your summer homework!”

Somewhat appropriately, her thank you card a has a picture of a literal short bus on it.

It's quite sad that her vacation (or vacation time in general) is still so focused on university and academia. There is no down time for her, it's all about revising the notes, organising the notes, reuse the notes, make a to do list, because God forbid you do something outside your 'script', something unplanned.

"Make sure you make the most of [your summer], you properly switch off and relax" - this is just one point among 16 others which are focued on academia. That's not really switching off is it?

Also why is she preparing her school bag, notes etc since she's not coming back to uni this year?

I usually throw my bag on the last day. The last thing I want to be thinking about is the first day of the academic year. Thank god my school days are over and with no studytubes to influence my productivity, lol. Why would you spray your bag? Do you not wash your bottle at all? I mean it's something you do atleast twice a week.

She only washed her bottle on the outside, too 🤢

Also I’ve owned a fair few Kånkens in my day (where I’m from, they’ve always been popular) and you can literally toss it in the washing machine, no need to mask the stink with a room spray.

Yeah, all signs point to Ruby just being very unpopular, likely due to the Erimentha-yness of her being an unrelenting teacher's pet and the very demeaning, passive-aggressive way she looked down on any teenager who engaged in normal teenage activities, like watching TV, wearing makeup, etc. Other students likely just ignored her entirely, or made the occasional snarky and mean comment. But embellishing wildly got her a lot of sympathy and admiration from fans, and it all happened coincidentally just as she published her own book about bullying.

None of her stories add up at all and her discussions about her own bullying have always been incredibly vague and wildly inconsistent. She went from "I was never bullied personally, but the topic is VARRY interasting tyoo mee!" to "I WAS bullied, I just forgot about it" right around the time she started reading lots of middle-grade bullying fiction while preparing (i.e. stealing all the ideas she could) to write her own book. Even the "character arc" that she claims she went through and the advice she has is ripped straight from simplistic middle-grade mean girl books: Bullying is horrible, and only the most brightest and most gifted students get bullied, but it's only because they're VARRY JALLOSS, and these simple-minded bullies likely have things going on in their own life, so you're not so different after all and it's okay to forgive them at the end.

She's never been able to think of even hypothetical believable examples of bullying, and her definition of bullying seems to include everything from valid criticism to friends being slightly unreliable and flaky. Oh, and apparently friends asking you to do their homework in exchange for money and/or favours is extreme bullying, so Blakeney's gonna need some therapy for all the bullying she endured at the hands of Ruby.

University might be over, but children's schools are still in session, which is where Ruby likes to believe she is.

who sends thank you cards to teachers? (Ruby, obviously. I wonder if she’s sending cards to her former lecturers at uni? 🤣)

I would not be at all surprised if we find out Ruby is still sending thank you cards to her former high school teachers every year tbh

ryoobees mum is getting a bit creative with these angles
After -literal years- of the same view, I'll take whichever new angles are offered. 😂

I'm finding Ruby's repetitive existence kind of depressing lately. It's been worse since she left uni. All that free time, but still stuck at the desk in her childhood bedroom.

This 'before school ends' routine could be directed at her younger viewers. I know that her channel's still classed as studytube, so maybe she feels the need to continue that content so she doesn't lose followers. That's the charitable interpretation lol. Of course, it might just be that Ruby wants to remain a child forever and is unable to move past that stage of her life. Or a mixture of both, perhaps.

I am honestly getting complete prison/institution vibes from Ruby’s videos and Instagram right now. All we ever see are the same shots of outside taken from her bedroom window and now we have shots that are framed to look like we’re looking into Ruby’s cell. Add in the weird sloppy meals, Ruby’s odd ‘uniforms’ and I swear she wants us to think she’s in prison. She’s even taken the map off her wall because presumably that’s a reminder that there’s an outside out there …Maybe it’s all a cry for help?

Is this meant to be symbolic? Ruby is trapped inside a prison of her youtube persona and she doesn't know how to break free? She is stuck doing busy work and she is being forced to wear odd clothing, eating gruel such as cabbage porriage and peas in everything. Will Ruby be able to break free from the prison that she had placed herself in that is her youtube persona?? This might be a new book for Roobes, should be getting paid for giving her ideas!

I did in primary school but not since then and my bf is a sixth form and he got some thank you cards but that was more of a signed by the whole class thing rather than one student, idk anyone in uni that does it though?
Also I'm not suggesting anything weird but does anyone remember when a teacher gave her a book and said to keep it as it will be an excuse to get back in touch...does anybody else think thats a bit odd? Idk I didn't go to private school but I've never heard of a teacher giving only one student a gift lol the most we got was a pack of haribo or some quality street at the end of term
