I suppose I was thinking specifically of fiction. Non-fiction is a different ballpark.

I would point out here that youtubers very rarely publish fiction. Among the youtubers I know who have put out books, I can think of 5 who have put out fiction works: Ruby (obviously), Mike Jeavons (I actually preordered his to support him and liked it well enough), Onision (the less said about his work the better), Lindsay Ellis (She's not the archetypal youtube author though, she's more like Xiran Jay Zhao) and Zoella (her books were ghost written so I'm not sure I'd count her either). The vast majority do something autobiographical (Jake Paul, Lele Pons, Dan and Phil, Joey Graceffa, Shane Dawson, Michelle Phan etc) or something otherwise non-fiction (Rhett and Link, Hannah Whitton, Rosanna Pasino, YSAC, Charlie McDonald, Lily Singh, Anna Akana, ASAPscience etc.)

I believe it's more or less the same with famous people who aren't famous for being authors. The vast majority write non-fiction (autobiographical or otherwise.) The only ones I can think of who put out fiction are Nadine Dorries (and no one is reading her books because they admire her as an MP :ROFLMAO:) and Richard Osman (who, yes, probably has his work picked up for his celebrity.)

If a youtuber wants to tit out a book with next to no effort, they don't write a fiction work. They write a low grade autobiography like Jake Paul did (which he probably wrote in one day.) Heck, if they really want to do it with no effort they don't even write it themselves.

imho writing non-fiction is leagues easier than writing fiction. I've got a non-fiction work simmering away at the moment in the very earliest stages of development (not sure if I'll take in anywhere.)

So, correction to my earlier post: writing novels and other fiction is wizardry. Writing non-fiction is something I think most could do, should they care enough to.

I always wanted to write a book, even as a child. I should have become a youtuber, but Youtube started when I was 20 and I can't remember if I knew of its existence. I lack confidence. I don't like being in front of a camera, I prefer being behind (to take photos). I don't enjoy editing videos (I think I'm as good as Ruby :ROFLMAO:). My life is boring, my style is boring, I like reading and blogging. I prefer writing, but don't think I'm any good (so maybe I really should start a Youtube channel? I mean, I'm graduating at the end of the year and have no plan for after university and I'm in my late 30s!)
I'm procrastinating, so don't mind me here...

There's Tons of people who write fiction, what are you talking about!

(There are other people in the world, not just youtubers lol. But i do know of some youtubers who sell fiction too and ppl buy their stuffs.)

I remember some random girl even became rich and famous with a fanfiction lol.

Maybe you're a perfectionist and you think you're only allowed to write if you can make a masterpiece?..

(That's why you're stuck i imagine?)
(You shouldn't worry that muchh.)

But actually anyone can write and publish a book, no matter how awful it may be. It happens all the time lol.

(And btw Ruby's book sounds very inspired by herself, or at least by how she sees herself.... So i guess it's a little bit autobiographical.)

What are you depressed about. Even Ruby adores you. She lets you contaminate her bed lol.

Ruby has over 700k followers and all she does is drink tea, light candles, admire weeds, and say how aesthetic every books are and how wonderful it is to be alive in october.

So if she can make it, anyone can.

There's tons of successful boring af channels.

Anyway you are not boring at all.
You contribute to my addiction to Tattle, so you aren't boring. lol

You can also write a book in your free time, why not??
(You can self publish if you can't find someone to publish it and advertise it online.)

I’m beginning the think that Ruby infantilising herself has less to do with her trying to escape adulthood (although that’s a big part of it) but to exempt her from criticism. The amount of comments I see on her YouTube and tiktok that are some variation of “protect this girl at all costs 🥺🥺” are telling. Why? Because she acts like she’s twelve and prefers reading to parties? She’s 22 years old ffs, let her take responsibility for her actions like every other creator on the platform. Just because she dresses like a geriatric toddler doesn’t mean she needs to be babied.

I never understood what it means. They don't seem in danger 😅😆

One thing I couldn’t understand is how Roobs can go through three years of university and still come out the other end as sheltered and deluded as she was when she first applied to Oxford. However, what one must realise is that Ruby didn’t actually have a ‘university experience’, she basically just redid secondary school but she cut out the bits she didn’t like, ie speaking to others and leaving the house. Her results video is so depressing because it solidifies that there has been a complete lack of growth, academically or within adult life. I’ve mentioned it before but she displays such a severe state of arrested development, which is highlighted in that video. For example, remember when you were like 14 and thought you were the smartest, most original person ever? Ruby is still stuck in that phase. If you listen carefully throughout the video, Ruby never once says something along the lines of ‘My work got me a first, I’m happy with that.’ It’s always ‘they mahhrked me as a low faaahst…which is JAANINELY a RAHLLY good mahhhk….but two different professors will maaahhk work differently so it JANIUNELY doesn’t mean anything…’ throughout the video she highlights that she genuinely believes she’s been under-marked, that her professors, who literally have a phd, can’t see the genius that is her uni work and have given her a low mark because of it. Yes, she’s right when she says ‘marks are just numbers which don’t mean anything’, but she doesn’t mean it in the same way the rest of the world means it. She says it over and over to herself because she believes her work needs little to no improvement and should be noted as the work of a genius, and that she’s sO mIsUnDeRsToOd by her professors because she’s a tortured genius. This proves that she is undeniably thick as she has completed missed the point of going to university. There’s a reason first year doesn’t count in 99% of degrees. It’s literally because there’s a huge gap between studying for a-levels and studying for a degree, therefore you need to take into consideration that you will actually need to improve your work and listen to those with more knowledge than you, two things Ruby has not been able to do.

I was sewing earlier and remembered that Ruby and her sister got matching sewing machines for Christmas. There was a photo or story or ... I don't know. I just remembered while I was sewing. lol

I feel like one day she’s going to be mortified at the things she’s shared online. I posted the most unhinged stuff when I had a starved brain. I absolutely did not act my age, thought I had invented comedy, and was so quirky™. I had no insight into any of this, but was convinced I was the main character and that everyone was interested in hearing my oversharing and deep observations about bloody everything. I will never stop cringing about my past. Please get some adequate nutrition ASAP 😅

The comments are also full of messages like "this is my comfort channel!" or "your voice is so soothing!" even when she's spending the whole video angrily growling things, switching between inaudibly mumbling and LOUDLY YELLING at random, slurping and smacking her lips as she samples tea and now just gargles sentences through a mouthful of liquid. It's enough to activate your fight or flight response or trigger a panic attack, but Ruby's fans apparently like to fall asleep listening to an unhinged Tory grandma-child angrily test the limits of the English language and the upper and lower boundaries of human hearing.

I think most of these people have misplaced their brains in the same dusty attic that Ruby has.

Reading this book was like rediscovering language for the first time.
