Hi, new commenter (long-time lurker). Just had to share this comment I saw on her recent YT short video "Italy daily vlog", and my thoughts on it.

RubyFakeit_LI.jpg

I think Ruby's comment sums up her approach to basically everything and this outlook is a big part of her problems. She seems to think that if she acts as though she likes reading, writing, academia, specific fashions, travelling, being vegan, etc., for long enough, that one day actual joy should come from those for her.
She seems to be going about growing a personality all backwards. Instead of naturally discovering one likes something, developing and broadening that interest, and eventually it becoming part of your personality, Ruby seems to have imagined a personality she wants to have and is trying to force herself into it. Except she doesn't actually force herself to do things like read more or become a better writer, probably because it is just not a natural way of being. (Plus being malnourished cannot be aiding her willpower.)
I think if Ruby truly enjoyed writing, her writing would be significantly better, even if she was not producing masterpieces. Loads of people have hobbies and interests that they are not naturally gifted in, and still manage to improve them with the practice that comes naturally when often doing something you love.
I think she needs to take a step back and really consider what she enjoys doing, and then do it without the pressure of videoing it or immediately making it a core personality trait. For example, enjoying writing does not need to equal being a "writer". I do not have high hopes for this to happen though.

Once again, her privilege is showing. ”Just act as though you will be happy.” It’s easy for Rootabaga to say this, with her rich dad, her mansion home, never having to work for anything, endless leisure (and a camera!) to devote to her yt ”career”. The rest of us can pretend all we want, but realities are going to interfere at some point.

Yeah I think it's a pretty naive outlook on life to have at 21. Not to be a total cynic and destroy Ruby's Pollyanna attitude but at some point you gotta work towards your happiness. The life you want probably won't just fall into your lap while you're in the garden gazing at clouds.
I mean unless you're rich and you can just rely on daddy's wealth for the rest of your life

Hello Tattle people I am currently in Lyondoon and I heard Ruby is coming home tomorrow. Is she going to arrive at Heathrow? Hoping to meet her there

I’m sure it’ll be Heathrow, seeing as it’s the most expensive and un-plebeian out of all the London airports. From what I’ve heard, the others are plagued with queue cutters and also so far away that you can’t see the rocks falling from the mountaintops.

speaking of aeroplane-related poetry, what gems will await us after the flight? and more importantly, will Ruby be stupid enough to turn off airplane mode mid-flight to post her vegan snack option, going all grey‘s anatomy?

I must say *fingerwag*, that I love the way you've used the evil alpaca as a symbol of the adulthood that Ruby is trying to escape, in particular the way that the image of the alpaca eating the laundry symbolises the way that growing up is meanly trying to stop Ruby wearing children's clothes!
Haha, nice analysis :p And I love the *fingerwag*

Does anyone else feel like she's been in Italy for ages? Reality is I thinks it been two weeks but it's all she's gone on about and now it feels like its been ages
That GIF never stops being funny.

And what the duck are "queue cutters"? Like, literally, people who cut in front of you in a queue/line? Because what's that got to do with any of the rest of the purple prose sea and sky nonsense she's thrown together? I assumed this was some Tory toff expression for yachts or something
I thought the same at first. I recently learned there's a type of boat called a 'Galway hooker' (from Galway, Ireland), but my very immature mind went straight to the the possible misunderstandings when doing a Google search for 'Galway hookers'. This isn't relevant to Ruby's poem...I just wanted an excuse to tell people about Galway hookers.

*Someone posts a picture of hand washing*

Person: Hi Ruby, it’s your old friend Penultimate. I’m a 56 year old man living in my parent’s basement in Arizona. I like guns, taxidermy, hard liquor and the all-you-can-eat wings night at Hooters.

Ruby: Congratulations, you’ve won a personalised book recommendation from me, Ruby Granger. From my extensive experience of honestly, actually reading lots of different kinds of novels (honestly) I’m going to recommend the classic Upper Fourth at Malory Towers. It’s so heartbreaking when Darrell has to resign as Head Girl of the form!* You won’t be able to read it in a whole day, like I do, but I’m sure you’ll find it quiscent. Have a productive day!

*thanks Wikipedia!

Great, now I'm picturing Penultimate "washing" his "hands" (lol I love the way you can instantly transform any expression into something sinister just by adding scare quotes)

Somewhat off topic but
I just found out there’s apparently 6 additional Malory tower books and I feel a little traumatised and bewildered. I really hope Ruby doesn’t find out the same information

They’re a series of books about a bunch of toffs who attend an all girls boarding school, for the most part they’re pretty light hearted, the girls do things like have sleepovers, play practical jokes and tit, try to solve each other's problems etc, but once you’ve read one if them, you’ve basically read all of them ngl basically the same stuff happens in every book. They’re an interesting insight into how life was for middle/upper class Brits in the 1940s or whenever they’re set, but beyond that… they’re honestly pretty samey and theres also a lot of very outdated sexist/racist stereotypes in the books as well (given the time period they were written and the fact they were authored by Enid Blyton who is generally just a massive hater) so idk why Ruby likes them so much tbh.

Is it just me that found her calling the remains of Pompeii “exquisite” a little disrespectful?
Since when is she interested in ancient history and the classics? Lol
She claimed she knows so little about it she couldn't read The Song of Achilles

She also can’t have listened to ”Vesuvius” by Sufjan Stevens, because if she had, she’d know how his name is pronounced. (I’m never going to let this go.)

Patiently waiting for Ruby to explain how Chiron - half man, half horse - was an important historical figure.
