This. Accepting money from a charity (given how rich she already is) was just Ruby being greedy like she always is, but the minute she claimed she had been planning to ”reinvest” the money in shady Holocaust memorials all along and then NEVER DID, it crossed over into lying and dishonesty. Sure, it may not fit the definition of theft, but it’s still not something an honest person would do.

edit: she lies all the time anyway, so none of this is really shocking coming from her.
Yupp.

An incredibly wealthy public figure accepting money from a charity is always scummy. There's a reason celebrities do this shit for free in their own time - nobody wants to see rich people profiting from needy causes and likely accepting more than their involvement might raise. The optics of it are terrible. It's not theft, it's just greedy as fuck and morally shitty from top to bottom.

But then Ruby took it a step further and lied up and down about that money from the second she experienced backlash, and kept making up stories and excuses that changed and got less believable every time.

First she claimed she only accepted the money to "reinvest" into Holocaust awareness (and anti-bullying causes, because Ruby has drawn the stupid and simplistic comparison that Nazis were just big bullies, so the two causes are naturally linked), because that's a believable alternative to just refusing money or immediately giving it back and making her own donations elsewhere. Saying you're going to be paying charities with their own money, or handing one charity's money to another is not charitable and "coming from a good place". It's stupid and highly suspect.

Then there was the hilariously dubious school memorial project excuse. Whenever asked about the progress on that memorial project, 9 times out of ten, she blocked and deleted people - always a good sign. On the rare occasion she couldn't do that, she claimed for a year that it was deep in the works and updates would be coming soon, and the schedule for an update was later and later every time with no actual information. Just days before claiming that she'd given all the money back, she posted a video including a to-do list with "Headway with memorials" on it to try to fool people into thinking it was an active project she was working hard on. She has never shown any evidence that any work was done on that dubious project after a year of claiming to be hard at work on it - who did she consult at the HMD Trust, what kind of discussions did she have with school boards, what was the approval process, how much planning had been done, how had it been budgeted, etc.?

Then, right in time for her next time to milk the Holocaust for content, she quickly claimed to have given the money back, clearly timed to pre-empt any renewed comments and backlash. Again, her story changed every time - first she'd done some thinking and after a year of criticism had finally decided on her own that she was misguided and had now returned the money. Then the story changed to "the money was returned last year".

I don't know of any reason why someone would lie so much for so long unless they just really wanted to keep the money and were hoping everyone would eventually forget about it. And there's still been no proof that the money was returned, when it was given back, or that the amount donated matched the amount originally accepted.

And that wasn't even the first or last time she's gotten wrapped up in questionable charity shit.

She accepted money from the NHS to advertise basic hygiene precautions that she herself almost never followed, at a time when the underfunding of the NHS and the paltry pay of front-line health workers was all over the news. She pledged ad revenue from several videos to multiple charities and encouraged people to sit through all the ads to drive up the amount. When asked how much was raised, people got blocked and deleted.

When people asked if the ad revenue from one of her anti-bullying would still be donated after she had to pull the video following another stupid controversy she'd caused, she blocked, deleted and avoided it. Again, zero proof that anything was passed onto the relevant charities. Considering she had a big scarlet letter on her Miss Patina blouse as far as charity money was concerned, she'd be aware that transparency was important if she was going to be in a position to handle money meant for charities.

Then there's the OTE conservation charity she got involved with, immediately after HMD 2022. Again, people had questions that it was marked as an ad - was she accepting money from another charity? Ruby shoved a very condescending disclaimer in her next video saying that people were "confused" how ad rules worked, then proceeded to lie about the ASA rules to explain why it was marked as an ad. Of COURSE she wouldn't be paid for it, who would think such a thing - aside from everyone, since she always does. And then that pesky word "reinvest" reared its head again as Ruby said that the money was "reinvested back into" the charity, before changing her tune again to say it was an unpaid ad. Again, I don't know why someone would lie unless it was to hide the fact that they accepted money and didn't want to give it back.

Tellingly, Ruby only ever does anything major for a charity when there is the opportunity for her to receive money for it, or if there's the chance for money earmarked for a charity to stop with her. The only exception was the Ukraine fundraiser. As discussed the other day, she had to be dragged kicking and screaming into participating in that by her management team to buy back some good will (just after they had to leap into her comments, pose as fans and post planted positive messages to try to drown out the critical comments from two more back-to-back charity scandals - HMD 2.0 and the OTE posts/video). She put in less than an hour's "work", looked miserable throughout and sour-faced Ruby made a weird point to mention that YouTube handled the money for it and would give it straight to the charity - she's clearly very aware when there's an opportunity for her to handle the cash and when there's not.

She might not be breaking into safes in the middle of the night to steal a charity's pot of cash, but people can draw their own conclusions about a spoiled rich influencer whose brand is built on "kindness", yet only does charity work when there's money to be made, or who constantly lies and deceives people to avoid handing over money she'd pledged to give back.

I have no words that Ruby thinks your grade number matters. Yes, maybe the actual classification but not the actual number.

She literally is SO sheltered. Even jade has a better grasp of reality. She knows you need confidence, people skills, creativity and life experience to do well in jobs. Fuck ruby. Honestly, this is the most insulting and pathetic thing she’s ever said. Try and walk into a top corporation flapping your essay paper but have no communication skills, articulate conversation or friendly chat to mix with everyone and see how well you do.

Sorry I know that having rocks thrown at you is really scary if it happens in real life but it sounds so cartoonish in that extract that I can't help but laugh.
Her ideas of bullying are so bizarre like firstly no, I just can’t imagine a bunch of private school girls going round dashing rocks and slapping people up. Secondly, if you’re gonna write a realistic book about bullying in 2022 then 90% of it needs to be happening over snapchat, insta, tiktok or roblox lmao

I have read the blurb and there are a few things I don't understand.
1. Who exactly is Janey and why is it Lottie's fault that she has gone missing.
2. How do Janey and Lottie know each other as the blurb does not make this clear.
3. Janey and Lottie are not at the same school as Lottie is doing her GCSE's and Janey will be in Primary school. So, surely the book should be about two girls who are the same age or close to the same age and who are both in Secondary school.
Answers:

1. Ruby's an idiot.
2. Ruby's an idiot.
3. Ruby's an idiot.

The mystery hook should be "where did the missing person go?", not "who is the missing person, how did they go missing and how is the protagonist related to any of it?" This is what happens when someone who never reads and has no writing ability tries to write a mystery, or a novel in general: You get a flimsy mess of a plot, garnished with plot holes, tangential bullshit and unbelievable nonsense.

More concerning is that her professional agent couldn't write an elevator pitch that provided enough brief, clear information to hook a reader. It wouldn't have been hard to write: "16 year-old Lottie is a chronic overachiever struggling to stay on top of the academic ladder. When a young girl goes missing because Lottie was too busy copying her best friend Binkley's homework to focus on her babysitting duties, Lottie's entire world starts to unravel."

Instead their pitch is: "Lottie Porter is the most smartest and talented girl who ever lived. She's got a lot to do. She has GCSE work to stay on top of. Her step-dad is on holiday, which is relevant somehow. Oh, and a 9 year-old girl goes missing. Her name is Janey. This is all Lottie's fault. But it's mainly the GCSE thing that we need to worry about. Anyway, did I mention that Lottie could be a professional cleaner if she wanted to be? This is Ruby's first book ever, so don't go looking for any others, please! Erimentha who? We don't know her."

Yep, it's another Ruby video.

"Befwore we start this vidyeeyow, oi've...got moiysalf somm teeea, OFF CWORSE. BECAUSE...[Ruby slips into her stilted "acting" voice]...I feel loike you can't have a vidyeeyow twalking about bocks...without tea."

Why does this shit sound so familiar?

Oh, right, she's literally just remaking her own videos now without even pretending to do something new.

She said almost the exact same thing at the beginning of this video, in an equally fake and pompous, rehearsed voice.

This is her third time discussing some of these books. She's very clearly gone online to compile other people's thoughts into a script on her laptop which she keeps looking off-screen at:

Untitle468908549-0-.jpg

She has nothing interesting to say, certainly nothing that she's thought up herself.

A Room of One's Own is the best example, since she pretended to read it for her recent readathon video. She had no real thoughts to offer immediately after reading, when it was fresh in her mind. She had nothing of value or insight to offer in the days-later recap after she'd had time to think about the books she'd clearly not read in full. And now, weeks later, she's tossed together some notes from study guides - she has a little more to say, but it's still parroted, rehearsed yammering.

Some of them she's studied at uni, and is no doubt just reading out lecture handouts and stolen seminar notes. Some, like Once Again to Zelda, she just rewords a cover summary and provides no review or real in-depth information.

With the We Were Liars prequel book, she prefaces by saying PLEASE DYON'T read this until you've read the first book and she doesn't want to spoil anything, then proceeds to talk about the book as though we're already familiar with all the characters.

"This is abwout wan of Kadee's aunts - it's Johnny's motha, Carrie - and a somma in the nointeen savanties with her sisters."

i-dont-know-these-people-moira-rose.gif

Everything she says is just so dull.

giphy.gif

The only real fun of this video is watching Ruby squirm since she's obviously been reading Tattle and knows she'd been caught faking her accomplishments. There's been a lot of out-of-character disclaimers all over her content lately that feels directed squarely at the constant criticism she gets on here. This video has even more of that.

She huffs her way through an excuse-filled diatribe that, yes, she has read a lot of children's books, and these are short books, and she's begun to not count some of the books she hasn't read in full as complete this year. We know this just isn't true. And Ruby herself can't help but immediately start lying again the second she starts half-acknowledging criticism.

She says she only read children's books for a uni module, despite reading almost exclusively kid's books for her entire adult life before that module. And then she also defensively claims that it's ACKSHUALLY OKYAY for adults to read nothing but children's books because C.S. Lewis said so.

Untitle468iop908549-0-.jpg

"REMAMBER WHAT OIY SAD ABOUT C.S. LEWIS!" Ruby defensively says the second she pulls out a Lemony Snicket book.

When she's talking about A Room's of One's Own, she's quick to say, "I read that in my readathon. You SAW me reading it." No, Ruby. We saw you flipping through random pages making inconsistent progress in a faked "one day readathon" video. We also saw you change outfits 9 times in a video supposedly depicting a single day. Your village apparently gets 59 hours of midday sun per day. It was lies, and you made a bunch of shit up to embellish your accomplishments to get an unearned ego boost from gullible children on the internet. Until you stop doing it, you will not stop getting called out for it.

She says she fell into a trap of only reading books because she felt obligated to, and AWLwHaYS had to read all the way to the end before she marked them complete. "If oiy started a bock but didn't loike it, I'd still finish it because only then could I count it as having read it."

b66285af4a65e95040494c6b9a361704b5dc9cde.gif

But THIS YEAR, she's apparently recognised that that approach is VARRY superficial, so now she says she hasn't counted many books she's only partially read. It's just more lies and gaslighting. It's well documented, even from Ruby herself, that if she doesn't like something, she'll skip and skim through it and still mark it complete and add it to the list of books she read in full. We've seen her do it this year. Her readathon video was from this year, and that was full of lies, fabricated timescales and clearly unfinished books that Ruby struggled to provide even cursory thoughts about.

And wrapped in her lie is another bragging, fake accomplishment. "I've STILL RAD 56 BOOKS THIS YAAH." And the implication from Ruby is that alongside those 56 books (which is clearly utter horseshit and lies), she read EVEN MWOAR and just didn't count it!

God, what a boring pile of lies and drivel. She claims she loves YA now, and adds some to her favourite books of the year list. She enjoys romance in books now, even though she immediately says she doesn't like romance in books because it's sappy. She's definitely not reading these books to plunder them for ideas and content for her own book. Her eyes light up when she explains that The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks is structured like a police report, and you just know that she'd going to steal that gimmick for her own book.

She caps it off by announcing that the academic planner will release mid-July. It's been a long time in the making, she says. Previously she's claimed that she started work on this one before the last one even launched. Yet it looks identical to the last, with a lazy colour-swap and some slightly different shitty doodles. It also launches in mid-July, for a planner that starts in August. The company has logistical issues, defects and shipping delays with every single product launch. Yet they're launching this stupidly close to the date you need to start using it, so you won't get it by August 1st. Nothing has been learned and this will be another disaster. Nobody should be buying this. Don't fall for this scam again.

It angered me so much that she included she was upset over a 74. My degree was one of the most difficult periods of my life. I got severely mentally unwell and was having intense therapy and doing everything possible to not drop out. Got badly bullied on my course and at one point nearly ended up homeless. I remember when I opened my results and saw I got 70.1 I was ecstatic. For me it wasn't even the grade, having completed the degree and passed it was more than enough, but I needed a first to get a scholarship for my masters otherwise I couldn't afford it. She is so privileged and has 0 insight into the real world. She just sits there at her parents house, having next to no issues, pulling in thousands of pounds from undeclared adverts and a house she owns and then complains because her amazing grade wasn't amazing enough. But then she will be the type of person where if someone else is upset because they failed or got a third she will massively downplay their emotions and act like grades don't matter

Sorry rant over

It's the passive-aggressive "I'm not going to say anymore on it" for me xD Oh boy, sounds like Ruby was pissed that it got brought up. It's also hilarious to see how hard she tries to come off as this sweet, kind, gentle soul in her text messages but the bitchy passive-aggressiveness still shines through cause she's not good enough of a writer to hide it xD

The mystery hook is ''most importantly, how has the missing child affected Lottie's GCSE coursework?'' Because...priorities.
9 year-old girl Janey is missing, presumed dead, but the girl's family are so impressed by how diligently Lottie stays on top of her homework while raising funds for a school combination Holocaust/RIP Janey Memorial that they adopt Ruby Lottie as their new replacement surrogate daughter. No need to keep looking for their actual child anymore. They were pretty disappointed with the way their missing daughter didn't know all about the geography of Kenya, never corrected their grammar and often slept like a starfish rather than sleeping straight and rigor-mortised like a pencil, which was completely unacceptable, so this is a much better arrangement.

An epilogue will explain that missing Janey was raised by wild animals in the woods and went on to have a magical life embracing nature, free from the hustle and bustle of modern life and spared the complexities of high school education that would no doubt confuse her feeble brain. Ruby Erimentha Lottie gets to live her dream of being 9 again, so it's a happy ending all around.

But at the last second, Ruby Lottie remembers that she actually has a biological sister, Marla, who wasn't mentioned at any point previously in the book, but has also now gone missing, providing a shocking cliffhanger for a sequel.

She could've also just bought an external screen for her MacBook (or her brand new, never-used LG Gram) for a couple hundred quid. For her uses (word processing, web browsing, the barest minimum of shoddy editing) she doesn't need an entire new computer that costs £1,000-2000. Rapacious Rubert strikes again!
Oh but you forget that she absolutely needs an iMac because the larger screen is "perfect for editing"- after all, she is a WRITER who is currently editing her debut novel and that IS HER IDENTITY! Surely you can't expect her, as a WRITER, to do her editing on a run-of-the-mill laptop like us peasants - she clearly needs a larger screen because how else is she going to do all the edits on her sixth (or are we already on the seventh?) draft. It's an investment in her future as a bestselling WRITER, clearly.

Her quoting CS Lewis as the justification for reading children’s literature infuriates me!

Context: my undergrad dissertation (exact same Uni and course as Ruby) explored the value of returning to Roald Dahl texts as an adult, in terms of fostering greater empathy between generations (one of my motivations for choosing Dahl was the wealth of praise and criticism for his work, in the context of adult-child relations)

In my dissertation, I quoted from the very same CS Lewis lines that Ruby holds up as gospel. The difference? Lewis’ justification for adults being “old enough to read fairy tales again” was prefaced by one word: growth. Not simply holding onto childhood at all costs, but not letting it go as you continue your journey into adulthood - which includes reading more widely and, shock horror, simply ADULTING!

I was going to give a long, rambling summary of it here but, firstly, I have covid (take two!) and, secondly, no summary could surpass Lewis’ original words anyway! So I’ll just paste them below (key parts in bold) and leave you to interpret…

“The modern view seems to me to involve a false conception of growth. They accuse us of arrested development because we have not lost a taste we had in childhood. But surely arrested development consists not in refusing to lose old things but in failing to add new things? I now like hock, which I am sure I should not have liked as a child. But I still like lemon-squash. I call this growth or development because I have been enriched: where I formerly had only one pleasure, I now have two. But if I had to lose the taste for lemon-squash before I acquired the taste for hock, that would not be growth but simple change. I now enjoy Tolstoy and Jane Austen and Trollope as well as fairy tales and I call that growth: if I had had to lose the fairy tales in order to acquire the novelists, I would not say that I had grown but only that I had changed. A tree grows because it adds rings: a train doesn't grow by leaving one station behind and puffing on to the next. I think my growth is just as apparent when I now read the fairy tales as when I read the novelists, for I now enjoy the fairy tales better than I did in childhood: being now able to put more in, of course I get more out.

I wouldn’t put it down to Exeter considering it’s regularly rated as one of the best unis in the country for English I believe?

It’s more Ruby knows how to play the game very well. Sparknotes, Blakeney, her tutors/lecturers, taking academic articles and using all of those to form her own “original” opinions.

In fairness, we’ve never read one of her essays either. I think she’s just good at playing the system well.

To be fair to Ruby, she is a grubby little goblin but that’s not just ‘her’ coffee machine - the whole family is just as bad. It’s obvious that she’s never been taught to clean, and she’s probably never really had to clean up after herself either. Her parents have done her a huge disservice in bringing her up that way.

Not being clean is one of those things that’s just seen as eccentric when you’re rich, and the Grangers can get away with it because it’s a million-pound house and a three hundred-pound coffee machine that’s filthy. A family in a lower socio-economic bracket wouldn’t have that privilege.

She is so smug, I'd expect 80 plus with all the hours she puts in.. as others have said University isn't all about grades, she hasn't made the most of it. With grade inflation I'm sure the are people in her cohort with a better overall mark who have put half the effort in.
