I was just thinking about how much I've read this year, and it's really put into perspective how unimpressive Ruby's reading output is?

I bought my e-reader in April, and checking the stats I've read around 30 books in the 3 months I've had it (we'll give that as a lower limit.) Now, I don't think this is impressive. I don't really read much that I consider particularly challenging anymore. Steinbeck is what I'm currently tackling, am currently about a 1/3 of the way through Grapes of Wrath. Most of what I read is very pulpy (saga historical fiction novels for old ladies) or pop-nonfiction (ngl I love Ysenda Maxtone Graham, would not have found her without Ruby, also have been devouring Jennifer Worth's stuff.) I've also been a student, and hence have had ample time to fill with reading whatever shite takes my fancy.

But if you extrapolate my output, that's 60 books in 6 months (which I believe is realistic). I don't consider myself a bookworm like Ruby does, but the stuff she reads seems firmly on a similar level to what I read. Surely, for someone who loves reading as much as she does, that's a low output for that level of literature?

If we were talking more difficult to read and digest texts (Austen, Achebe, Dostoevsky, Joyce etc) 56 in 6 months would be incredibly impressive, but at the level we see it seems low for a literature student (esp with the corners she cuts to count it.)

I'm not sure if people have been following my revelations especially but I would like to thank everyone here for encouraging me to challenge my perception. It's certainly opened my eyes a bit.

idk about 'impressive' (I dont think reading any number of books is impressive. people should read for enjoyment and not to impress themselves or other people), but 60 books in 6 months is a lot. thats a book every 3 days. it's not realistic for most people with responsibilities, work, school imo. I dont think a 'low output' of reading is Ruby's problem - it's that she skims books and rarely delves into the text. If Ruby read 5 books a year and actually engaged with the content she would get much more out of her reading. LMFAO lets not act like Ruby needs to do any more of those ridiculous 'I read 5 books in a day videos'. Quantity means nothing.

Sorry but her Lottie book she said she's wrote and edited in 6 months and for some of that she was writing other books...you cannot write a quality book and have it fully finished and ready to send off in 6 months especially for a debut

I know this sounds awful but I've had two glasses of wine so let me be but I'm so glad to see that I get the same/sometimes better marks than Ruby and I put in half the hours she does (not a brag btw it just shows you don't need to do so much extra reading and 15 hour study hours to do well)

Lol at 'filthomena' Got to say though, I'm not totally comfortable with these posts on discord. It feels more bullying when it's in a place she set up and still visits. Yes I know we say pretty much the same things here, but it's different when the comments are in 'her' spaces. I'm not phrasing this very well but hopefully people know what I mean.

I totally agree. When we post here it's a dedicated space to criticise her and it's on Ruby if she reads here and feels bad, but it's different to actually "seek her out" I think

imagine being a now former english literature student (if she graduate's that is) and a so-called "book worm" and having to ask those kind of questions on her instagram stories. surely she of all people should be able to come up with some ideas herself considering she markets herself as a lover of literature?? and even if she did struggle to think of some examples herself, google exists, the art of researching exists. can she really not be bothered to do the research herself?? i thought she loves researching and learning new things?? this girl both astounds and baffles me, she really thinks she can get through life by copying and stealing other people's ideas huh? well if she keeps this up and her book (if it gets published) is a plagiarised train-wreck i hope she gets her comeuppance

Ruby definitely does have a posh accent, but I wouldn't say unusually so - when you hear snippets of her talking naturally in vlogs she sounds like any other rich private-school girl from the Home Counties. It is definitely worthy of mocking, but a lot of posh people really do just talk like that. I think she does exaggerate it in videos though, especially when she starts slipping into her Hermione impression. She over-enunciates in a way that's really annoying to me.

She does also pronounce some things wrong or confuses them for similar-sounding words, but I'd guess that comes from a) never being corrected or refusing to be corrected, and b) probably learning most of her vocabulary from books rather than, you know, actually having conversations and talking to people.

That reminds me, the other day I saw a clip of an Emma Watson interview from when she was about 11 and it was almost eerie how much she reminded me of Ruby: her accent, tone, facial mannerisms, everything about the way she talked was almost identical. Ruby’s just copied everything about her childhood idol and she’s been doing it for so long that I don’t know if she even realises it any more. She‘s become this strange 22-year-old tween and it gives me the creeps.
