Remember the whole “I want to be a published author because of the quality of my writing” shtick and “YouTube won’t come into it”.

Now it’s so obvious she’s using her influencer status to push her book sales, gauge interest and try and get a foot in the door. She knows full well that no one would buy her book, nor would she even be in the position to get it published if she wasn’t Ruby Granger the YouTuber. Trying to say she wants to do it all off her own back is so disingenuous.

Publish your book under a pseudonym, Ruby. Then we’ll really see if you can get people to enjoy your book when they don’t know it’s you and you can’t get that YouTube credit. Exactly what you want, right?

Obviously not judging her for getting a computer over using her typewriter as her main device, just another example of how Ruby will buy or be gifted something quite expensive and and be completely blind to that privilege so doesn’t think twice about discarding said expensive thing as if it’s a toy

She could've also just bought an external screen for her MacBook (or her brand new, never-used LG Gram) for a couple hundred quid. For her uses (word processing, web browsing, the barest minimum of shoddy editing) she doesn't need an entire new computer that costs £1,000-2000. Rapacious Rubert strikes again!

Ruby, 'aspiring writers' don't constantly ask their instagram followers for help writing their book.

Time for a new identity.

I could understand it if it were a writer reaching out like, "Hey, any neurosurgeons out there who could answer a question I have for a scene I'm writing? I need to fact-check a plot point." Writers don't know everything, so they're going to need to research some stuff or consult with people at times.

But Ruby has put herself on a pedestal as a huge bookworm and a literary scholar, and she can't even think of any very simple references for herself. She's having her community write an entire character for her. At best, it's lazy as fuck, and she's outing herself regularly as a fraud and a bad writer. And it still hasn't occurred to her that if she's struggling to write for a very minor, very disposable one-dimensional character, she should remove the character.

Her agent should be slapping the phone out of her hand to keep her from posting this shit, it's a trainwreck.

Even if Ruby had this intention I doubt it was going to fly with an agent / potential publishers. A family friend who was a journalist got a book deal recently and her whole twitter became about her book, because her publisher told her it had to. Even if you have a minor online presence (she has around 1000 followers on twitter) you're expected to use it to push initial sales.

The only way would be to do like Jk Rowling with her crime series and send books off to agents / publishers under a pseudonym from the beginning.

Yeah, it was obvious from the moment her agent was announced and they started pitching her book under Ruby’s fake YouTube name and her role as a Studytuber influencer was prominently highlighted that she was only signed for her name and questionable fame.

If she really took a stand and said she wasn't going to use that name or market her book using her social media platforms, her agent would drop her instantly. Not that her book will sell anyway, since influencer vanity books almost never do, and follower counts never translate to guaranteed sales, but Ruby would sell zero copies based on her writing alone, and her agent knows it.

Not a silly question at all. Going "on submission" means Ruby’s agent going to start trying to sell the book to a publisher. They pitch the book, send the manuscript off, a publisher might buy it, they might tell Ruby to go away, rewrite and come back another time, or they might just laugh hysterically for several weeks and say, "Hell no."

Oh but you forget that she absolutely needs an iMac because the larger screen is "perfect for editing"- after all, she is a WRITER who is currently editing her debut novel and that IS HER IDENTITY! Surely you can't expect her, as a WRITER, to do her editing on a run-of-the-mill laptop like us peasants - she clearly needs a larger screen because how else is she going to do all the edits on her sixth (or are we already on the seventh?) draft. It's an investment in her future as a bestselling WRITER, clearly.

Just a quick question... Am I really the only one here who loved going on holidays with their parents? I only stopped going on holidays with my parents when I started University ("late" because of health issues I won't go into too much) at 24. I never felt ashamed nor was I ever shamed by anyone. People were actually envious or jelaous because I could go to places during every school holiday, while they were stuck at home

i agree! i feel like most people only stop going on holidays with their parents because the parents refuse to pay for them in adulthood. sure there are a couple of years when youre a teenager where you dont want to be seen with your parents, but i think most adults wouldnt turn down a free holiday with their parents if it was offered to them

In my (admittedly limited) experience, student journals like this follow the normal procedures of a peer-reviewed journal - except that the 'peers' in this case are other undergraduate students (who are editing the journal as an extracurricular activity kind of thing). So she likely would've received anonymous reviews/comments by other undergraduate students who are working as editors for that undergraduate journal. Though how well she coped with that is anyone's guess...

I have to say though, hats off to Ruby for persisting on this academic path despite lacking any talent or aptitude for academic work. She's really just making up for it with 1) priviledge and 2) brute-forcing it with endless editing/revisions/time spent writing. Who knows, we might just see her progress all the way up to a professorship with that method! (I wish I was being sarcastic here, but I'm actually not. I can see this happening, and it frightens me)

Ruby often claims she's almost obsessively perfectionistic and that she gets Firsts for everything in her English Lit degree. Absolute horseshit.

Her lack of any kind of imagination shines through yet again. Travels to London again. Avoids all the used book shops and independent shops in favour of "JAUNT Books" yet again. Says she only bought three books because she "just couldn't buy TAN books". Like...why not? You have a huge amount of money and claim to be a massive bookworm. Buy them, read them, then either keep them or donate them. But that would require reading things and not lying about everything.

Also telling that she bought a pointless "ACKS-tract book" containing only selections of complete works by "AFFSCOT FITZ-JARRALD", because reading complete books is simply too much effort for Ruby.

And guess what's on Perlego? The complete works of Oscar Wilde and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Supposedly frugal spender could've saved the money and just read the complete books she bought extracts of for free with the Perlego subscription she claims she AWLHWAYS uses. What a lying little dumbass.

There is absolutely nothing questionable about doing paid work. Not even for a charity. Not even when people who have money work for money. And the people lying about her stealing are still lying about it to people who don't know any better.

Personally, I feel it is immoral to take money in exchange for talking about Holocaust commemoration. In my opinion, spreading awareness and information about the Holocaust is extremely important.

Ruby could and should have posted about Holocaust Memorial Day for free. Demanding or accepting financial compensation for talking about Holocaust Memorial Day is ugly, imho.

I'm sure there's lots of different opinions about where the moral limits lie when it comes to influencers accepting money from charities in general, and I think that's an interesting debate to have. But when it comes to the Holocaust, I think it should be pretty clear and obvious that trying to profit off of the Holocaust/Holocaust commemoration events/Holocaust commemoration charities is wrong.

Ruby, check how many people bought Erimentha Parker. Okay, now subtract 75%. That's a very generous estimate of how many of your fans will buy a second book from you after the last shitshow, considering you've just written the same thing again.

She's put up a daily vlog on Insta that's mostly a profoundly dull series of the usual "AND THAN OIY did this AND THAN OIY did that" pointless crap, but she mentions she met with her literary agent and cuts to this photo of herself. No other footage of the meeting or her agent is shown.

She looks like she's either been crying or is about to burst into tears, or both. Definitely bodes well for her literary future!
